Champions League T20 2013

Hats off to the great show by T&T, the most under-rated team.

Ravi Rampaul & Sunil Narine :clap:clap:clap Brisbane Heat seems was over-confident. Poor Burns didn't get support from others.

My Fantasy team's all players (Narine / Rampaul / Burns) gave huge contribution and played well, so I am happy to get good points ;)

So far by the look of things, it will be a win by the canter for CSK. But it would be totally bad if the hometown hero MSD doesn't come out to bat. Ranchi will feel betrayed. Hope he comes out to bat here and finishes it off.

Could have been a more easier win in the end, but heck CSK will take it. Huss master keeps it coming season after season, league after league. He is becoming CSK's most valuable player, very underrated just like how Rahul Dravid used to be for India. Raina also played a wonderful innings today, and its refreshing to see him start off a tournament in this fashion.

As always, CSK is going to be the team to beat!

What use does that champions league have to world cricket?

Simple question i'd like to ask all those who has followed the champions league since its inception in 2009.

Other than the fact that the winning team gets a big pay day, what use does this tournament have in the international calendar other than to clog it up with more unnecessary T20 cricket?

I look at the trinidad team & the fact that Bravo, Pollard, Cooper is playing for their IPL teams instead. Is it a case where those guys rejected the chance all these years to play for trinidad or is it as i've heard that the IPL teams outside have sort of used bully boy tactics to keep them (although i know there is a contract saying if they play for local team instead of IPL teams a certain % of their money would be cut short).

A next dumb thing about the champs league is the very strange situation where we have notable T20 players like Pollard, Narine, Bravo, A Morkel, Gayle, Malinga, De Villiers etc etc etc who globe trot worldwide, play in all the T20 leagues and in some cases help different teams qualify for the champs league.

If we were to use football for comparison that is like all top football stars like Messi, Ronaldo, RVP, Rooney, Xavi, Falcao, Iniesta etc etc jumping between La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, BPL etc in a season - help different clubs win their respective domestic leagues and qualify for a champs league placing - then at the end chose which teams they going to represent in C -League.

Now that would be stupid dumb & that is what the is cricket champs league. Makes no sense and it really shouldn't be in existence.

The T20 world cup, IPL, plus every country wanting to have its own T20 league is enough T20 cricket for the game which has to juggle between 3 formats and a ridiculous FTP.

Clt20 is necessary in finding more talent pollard, narine, morris etc are known to the world through clt20,which help them to represent their country and earn a ipl contract. These players are playing leagues all around the world to earn money and they select ipl side in clt20 because they offer more money just like a soccer player select a contract for a club which gives more money and help to increase this talent and improve his status.

Its really hard to compare, because the whole T20 league thing is a bit of a farce anyway. Its better just to not really think about it at all, I've been ranting all over the place about this tournament but its pretty pointless so I just try to ignore it now.

I also held this viewpoint (this tournament is a complete joke) but at the end of the day its just not financially attractive for the BCCI to have the non Indian teams there. I don't know why the BCCI doesn't just stage a second IPL they would make far more money, and they have already made it pretty clear that they'd do just fine without everyone else. I must say I thought there would be a bit of a backlash from Indian fans regarding the IPL with the whole fixing thing, but it seems most don't really care I guess. Things look as though they're going on as though nothing happened.

I thought so too, but the non backlash from Indian fans has made me sort of rethink how i view them Recently i spoke to old Indian cricket fan who is 39 years old via email a few days ago in light of all of this & this how he described the majority of Indian fans:

quote said:
I am very upset these days with the one sided view with which most Indian fans comment

A lot of the comments make me wonder why I wasn't on the same page with most of them. Anything critical of Indian cricket or its players is met with ferocity. Mindless comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar when the article would be about some other player altogether. This led me to think about the overall composition of the Indian cricket fans. These are just my views but I believe i'm not far from the truth. I go to the stadiums to watch games and I observe that majority of the people do not really understand or care for the game. They are having fun and forget as soon as they step out. I've watched cricket very keenly for about 30 years now and I understand the passion for the game, but what I don't understand is arrogance and this false sense of invincibility some people think we have in world cricket today.

Its a farce indeed, the ICC incompetence as i've always said has been well and truly exposed in the last 6 years (since India won the 2007 T20 world cup and created the IPL) as T20 leagues have popped up all over the world.

I've always felt the perfect scenario for the world game would have been to let the IPL become the sole T20 league in the game & cricket's version of football leagues i.e BPL, Serie A, Bundesliga, Serie A.

Get rid of the stupid 4 international player restriction & let the various IPL XI's be made of of the best international players, indian established players - whether they are young or old.

That way the IPL would have more competitive cricket, would get a wider international audience & it would be great for international cricket. India would still stand to gain massively financially from it & possibly even more if it had a proper global following if its international following was similar to that of which football clubs get.

Only under this scenario should the IPL get a window.

If it was done this way, no other country would be trying to copy IPL & create their own tournaments because all the boards would be benefiting from the aforementioned form of the IPL.

Cause lets be honest no other cricket country has the amount of local billionaire businessmen to create such a successful T20 league.

But of course India don't care about the greater cricket community & as it has been revealed recently, some dumb Indians actually wish the India would cut ties with the rest of the globe & turn the IPL in to cricket's version of the NBA.:facepalm

All nations having T20 leagues, plus the T20 world cup every 2 years (i know its changing to 4 after the 2012 tournament) plus the Champs League annually is T20 overkill & its the biggest new factor that is causing fixture congestion in the global game.

That is very much correct to an extent, esp when it comes to the franchise based IPL, and you can also include the CLT20 in it. People hardly care.

I remember a debate on a TV news channel regarding IPL, that what actually the people want to see in it. A guy stood up and said - glamour and entertainment, why? Reason being, lack of such things in actual life. Guess what, quite a few people in the audience agreed with what he had to say.

I did mention somewhere when I went to an IPL match, the people were going mad at each and every four six wicket irrespective of the team.. the people beside the cheerleaders staring their eyes out at them.. Completely artificial crowd that was. Laughable to say the least

That shouldn't be the way. I'm sure no aspiring cricketer dreams about playing for CSK ahead of his national team. Cricket has never been a club game, and will never be. But if forced too, it will regret the loss of its actual fans.

The only point in favour of Champions League T20 is that it stages teams from around the best cricketing nations, but the worst part is that the cricketers generally choose not to play for their local teams.

Back to the game, finally a low scoring close game at CL T20 2013, between Lions and Brisbane Heat. ABD finally have a smile on face :p

Nice bowling, and defended just 123 quite amazingly. Now its clear Brisbane Heat is over-dependent on bowlers, no contribution from batsmen in both the matches :D

So far I'm surprised that I'm actually enjoying some of the games in this tournament, though I haven't watched any of the IPL teams yet (due to timezone and not being interested in them) but that Heat Titans game was very exciting. Even though it was only T20 it was great to see a helpful pitch, and some quality fast bowling from de Lange and Morkel. Also Gale on debut bowled really well, thats one thing I can say is very positive about this tournament is that it gives a lot of these unknown domestic players a crack on a larger stage and possibly lead to an IPL deal (Chris Morris being a good example).

Its just a shame for teams like the Heat that they don't have any quality overseas players (they've got Roach but the bowling isn't the problem), this tournament would be a lot more competitive if the non-IPL teams could sign up to 3 or 4 overseas players just for this tournament like the IPL teams have. I mean its really amazing in the past that the non-IPL teams have performed just as well as the IPL teams.

Well i'm not suggesting foreigners take over the IPL teams. But at the same time the team should only be made of star national India players & good enough domestic players & talented youngsters on merit.

To use football as an example again, the IPL doesn't have to make same mistake the English football league (BPL) made by selling out to foreigners to the detriment of the national team.

India have the luxury of having many local billionaires as an emerging economy, so they don't need foreign investment in the IPL.
