Commonwealth Bank Series Feb-Mar 2011/12

Australia team
DA Warner, MS Wade?, RT Ponting, PJ Forrest, MJ Clarke*, DJ Hussey, DT Christian, RJ Harris, MA Starc, CJ McKay, XJ Doherty

India team
V Sehwag, G Gambhir, V Kohli, SK Raina, RG Sharma, MS Dhoni*?, RA Jadeja, R Ashwin, R Vinay Kumar, Z Khan, U Yadav

Australia batting first. Our selectors have some weird logic going on, they pick Marsh in the squad then send him back for the first 2 ODIs and now he isn't even playing in this match.

Yeah strange for Marsh to miss out.. they pretty much inked him in when they said he was named for the third ODI. Christian has had a good start, so I'm glad he wasn't left out and I think Dave's bowling will be utilised well this game.

I think some people are over-reacting to the "Tendulkar rest and this idea of openers rotation for Rohit Sharma". Yes I agree that they have done a minor mistake of putting Rohit Sharma as the reason why these openers are resting (when even Suresh Raina should be put on the same pedestal) but the idea behind it is to give the youngsters a fair go at the early stages of an ODI series. Shastri asks why they didnt give Rohit Sharma a chance in the Adelaide test. Well thats bygones, and there can still be a few people who think that an experienced but out of form Laxman can be a better option than a debutant but in-form (though in first class cricket) Rohit Sharma and having such a logic is completely fair enough.

India have taken a calculated gamble as far as this rotation goes, and it hope it works for them. The idea behind it is sound enough. Also good job bringing in Yadav for Praveen. I guess next game, Irfan might come in for Vinay Kumar. Hope the team zeroes in on a best XI before the final leg of the league stage. Thats where the business end of the tournament will happen. Winning the tournament is the most crucial thing.

Pretty sure Clarke and Warner will be opening now that Forrest is at 4 and Wade will go down to 6 or 7.

Edit: Ponting and Warner interesting, so Clarke moves to 3. Seems lots of changing around for Forrest in.

I don't like this thing with the batting order, they dont seem to take limited overs cricket seriously. They dont mess with the batting lineup in tests.

Well that was a waste of time. Ponting appears to be struggling again, not so much the shot he got out with as that was more ODI pressure but the one where he got hit on the pads again.

Vinay is the man. His first over wasn't that good but he still got the wicket.

Probably will get some good time in the middle as Warner hasn't gone on in this format.

Ideally would like to see Cooper or even Khawaja getting a run. Cooper is killing it this season and his overall record is top notch plus he has ODI experience already.
