Windward Islands XI v Pakistan - 3 day First Class match - St Vincent

Windward Islands XI 117 all out (58.4 overs)
(R.J.J.McLean 23, V.Dumas 26; Waqar Younus 4-26, Shahid Nazir 2-17, Abdur Razzaq 2-16, Arshad Khan 2-16)

An excellent allround performance by a tight Pakistani attack saw Windward Islands all out for 117 shortly before Tea on Day 1.
Waqar enjoyed the bounce in the first session, claiming 3 early wickets as the home side lost 5 before Lunch, before the pitch flattened out after the break.
With the pitch now good for batting, Pakistan will be hopeful of a big score to try to force an innings victory over the weakest of the island sides.

Windward Islands XI v Pakistan - 3 day First Class match - St Vincent

Windward Islands 117 all out

Pakistan 207/2 (68 overs)
(Saeed Anwar 52, Shahid Afridi 63, Saleem Elahi 59*, Shadab Kabir 20*; R.Marshall 2-46)

About half an hour after Lunch on Day 2, Pakistan lead by 90 with 8 wickets in hand.
After Saeed Anwar and Shahid Afridi put on over 100 for the first wicket at 5 an over, the pace slowed against some good slow left arm spin from Roy Marshall.
With all the batsmen spending time in the middle so far, and the bowlers enjoying themselves, the Pakistan touring side have made some positive gains from this match.

Windward Islands XI v Pakistan - 3 day First Class match - St Vincent

Pitch: 105

Toss: Windward Islands XI

Windward Islands XI won the toss, but little else went right for them in a one sided match.
They were bundled out before Tea on the opening day as a pumped up Waqar claimed 4 wickets.
Lead by a hundred opening stand at 5 per over between Saeed Anwar and Shahid Afridi, Pakistan replied strongly, most of their batsmen making runs before the eventual declaration.
Windward Islands XI batted better second time round, but 4 wickets to Arshad Khan, and a further 3 to Waqar who finished as Man of the Match ended the game.
Pakistan won the match by the eventual margin of an innings and 42 runs, and it was an excellent display by the visitors from start to finish.

Am now wondering whether sending a 1998/9 Bangladesh team on the same tour might be fun.
Judging by some of the cards for the West Indies players, Bangladesh may be a chance of winning a few matches.
Am going to try it, will be interesting for comparison.
I will amend the tour and make it shorter so that Bangladesh have enough players and I don't get bored, 3 Tests is more like it for them.
Details to follow shortly...

Am hoping the Bangladeshi players achieve something close to their first class career stats on this tour.
Bangladesh did in fact beat a bunch of these guys in a Test series in 2009.

West Indies President's XI v Bangladesh - 3 day First Class match 1998/9 - Guyana

Bangladesh 86/0 (28 overs)
(Shahriar Hossain 61*, Mehrab Hossain 25*)

The Bangladesh openers make a very good start on a very good batting pitch.
Bangladesh eyeing a big total on a flat pitch against an attack that already seems to have run out of ideas.

Bowling attack for West Indies President's XI not great:
P.I.C.Thompson RF
D.Mais RF
M.I.Black RFM
R.Marshall SLA

West Indies President's XI v Bangladesh - 3 day First Class match 1998/9 - Guyana

Bangladesh 346/7 declared (127.4 overs)
(Shahriar Hossain 95, Mehrab Hossain 71, Aminul Islam 77, Khaled Mashud 67; R.Marshall 6-79)

After an opening partnership of 150 between Shahriar and Mehrab, Aminul Islam and Mashud guided Bangladesh steadily towards a declaration midway through Day 2.
Roy Marshall bowled his left arm spinners accurately for the home side on a very flat pitch that is slowly beginning to allow the bowlers some assistance.

West Indies President's XI v Bangladesh - 3 day First Class match 1998/9 - Guyana

Pitch: 17

Toss: Bangladesh

Bangladesh won the toss and batted first on an excellent batting pitch, and were given a great start by their openers who added 150 for the 1st wicket.
Shahriar made 95, and Mehrab 71, and half centuries to Aminul Islam and Khaled Mashud allowed them to declare at a healthy 346/7.
An opening partnership of 98 between Gayle and Ragoonath, and a speedy half century to Arthurton allowed a declaration 140 behind for the home team.
Another good opening stand between Shahriar and Mehrab allowed Bangladesh to declare, and set the home side 243 to win in 47 overs.
A young Chris Gayle then monstered the Bangladeshi attack to make 151 at a run a ball, turning the chase into a doddle, with Lincoln Roberts making a barely noticed half century at the other end.
Defeat by 5 wickets felt cruel for Bangladesh given how well they competed earlier in the match, but their bowling shortcomings had been exposed and they end the match searching for answers.

West Indies President's XI won by 5 wickets

Man of the Match: C.H.Gayle

Bangladesh 346/7 declared (127.4 overs)
(Shahriar Hossain 95, Mehrab Hossain 71, Aminul Islam 77, Khaled Mashud 67; R.Marshall 6-79)

(C.H.Gayle 67, S.Ragoonath 46, D.Rampersad 30, K.L.T.Arthurton 50*; Enamul Haque snr 3-32)

Bangladesh 102/2 declared (29.2 overs)
(Shahriar Hossain 50*, Mehrab Hossain 42; R.Marshall 2-4)

West Indies President's XI 243/5 (46.3 overs)
(C.H.Gayle 151, L.A.Roberts 50; Naimur Rahman 2-58, Aminul Islam 2-25)

Windward Islands XI v Bangladesh - 3 day First Class match 1998/9 - St Vincent

Bangladesh 219 all out (67.4 overs)
(Javed Omar 99, Sanwar Hossain 35, Khaled Mashud 46; C.A.Davis 4-20, M.J.Morgan 2-44, R.Marshall 3-68)

After claiming 4 early wickets, Casper Davis went off the field injured after pulling a muscle, allowing Bangladesh to recover slightly.
Javed Omar was unluckily out for 99, but only 3 Bangladesh batsmen made double figures as they posted a mediocre total.
