Lead by a half century from allrounder Shastri, India made steady progress reaching the 2nd drinks break in a solid position.

England perserved to bowl India out for 230 off 49.5 overs but India would be happy with their total on a pitch which offered the bowlers something.
Shastri top scored with a 102 while DeFreitas and Lewis picked up 3 wickets apiece, Lewis recovering in the later overs after a poor start.

India v England - One Day International - at Bombay - Indian Tri Series 1991/2 - Score update

England shrugged off the early loss of captain Stewart for 2 to be well placed at the first drinks break of their innings.
Atherton and Hussain were both well set and scoring freely against an attack that has so far lacked penetration.

England 77/1 (17 overs)
(M.A.Atherton 47*(54), N.Hussain 30* (41); J.Srinath 1-18)

India v England - One Day International - at Mumbai

Toss: India

India won the toss and posted an above par total on a pitch which offered the bowlers some assistance.
England persevered to bowl the home side out but were faced with a difficult chase at the halfway point of the match.
Indian allrounder Ravi Shastri top scored with 102 off 123 balls, an excellent innings given most of his team mates struggles.
DeFreitas and Lewis finished with 3 wickets each for England but they would have been disappointed to let the scoring get away from them in the later overs.

India v England - One Day International - at Mumbai

Atherton and Hussain put England on track before the loss of 3 quick wickets derailed their chase.
Fairbrother and Ramprakash took time to be rebuild before some late hitting by Lewis cut the margin but India won with something to spare.
The Indian seamers all bowled well making up for the lack of success of their spinners with Chetan Sharma the pick with 2-37.
Ravi Shastri was named man of the match for his hundred despite his lack of success with the ball, his innings ensuring India always had enough runs.

India won by 11 runs

India v England - 2nd One Day International - at Delhi - 1991/2

Pitch: 4 - Normal wicket
Weather: 5 - Hot and sunny
Toss: India

India won the toss and made a good fist of batting first, posting a total of 260 all out off 49.3 overs.
England again had the satisfaction of bowling their opponents out, but the amount of runs conceded would bother them.
Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin top scored with a stroke filled 80, adding 78 for the 5th wicket with Kapil Dev who made 43.
Angus Fraser took 4 wickets for England, bowling well at the death after Chris Lewis had done the early damage.
Ian Botham had an off day with the ball in conceding 40 off 5 overs without a wicket.

India v England - 2nd One Day International - at Delhi 1991/2

England had promoted Botham to opener for this game and the gamble paid off, the veteran allrounder dominating an opening stand 132 with Atherton.
Botham was eventually out for 71, but Atherton batted superbly to carry his bat for 132* and see his side to an 8 wicket victory.
Though victory came in the last over, England had won with something to spare with all their batsmen looking in good touch.
For the second match in a row the Indian spinners had struggled placing undue pressure on the seam attack to take wickets and this time it proved fatal.
Victory to England sees the 5 match series fascinatingly poisted at 1-1 heading into the 3rd match in Bangalore.

England won by 8 wickets
Man of the Match: M.A.Atherton
