DBC14 Modification Discussion

I personally think that Modding should be limited to Visuals , as that will not impact online play if a "Stock" DBC plays against a "Modded" DBC.

Any gameplay mods , will introduce all kinds of shenanigans .

Another fairly simple design...

LOL. I am playing for my national team and my age is 21.
I should leave that and start again?

If you want challenging career then yes after patch#2 its gonna be hard earn runs and wickets...If not continue with the current one...:)

I dont think we need to modify .exe ross, AFAIK (i could be wrong) the exe modding in c07 was done mostly to load the external config files, because EA werent around to make it accessible.

As you would be providing us with configs i dont see reason for exe modding and any modification to .exe for loading of these configs and preventing online will have to be done from your end.which should keep it good.

Again, I highly doubt Big Ant would provide config files which would modify or impact gameplay. Adding more kit items (pads, bat, gloves etc.) is one thing but changing things such as AI or AI attributes etc. is a different ballgame altogether. If Big Ant had wanted gameplay to be modded they would have provided slider based settings for the said configs.

From a business standpoint it stands to reason Big Ant don't allow core gameplay to be modded. Cricket is a niche game as it is and if they allow gameplay to be tweaked, it would drastically reduce their consumer base for subsequent iterations, thereby jeopardising the future of DBC franchise.

Ross has said that they might give access to gameplay variables for a first.

Gameplay tweaking has been the core vain of Planet cricket from its starting days, it will increase the value of the game rather than decrease it, also im sure the next iteration of DBC ross will sell to us will have something much more than gameplay tweaks that can be modded or a simple facelift.

So the fear that just because DBC is made moddable would decrease the sale of its future iteration is not a good theory in practice.

Modding will actually help in refining gameplay tweaks to a great extent and provide a lot of feedback to BA for future iterations. Its a WIN -WIN situation actually.

If you provide sliders, they have to develop that and make sure the game works well regardless of your settings. If they open up a config file on PC - that's at your own risk and it can break things and be your fault, not Big Ant's.

We came within days of having a few sliders for patch#2 but they didn't make this patch.

Just a few though, as per your post, it would take a lot of testing to have many introduced at the one time, we will probably incrementally introduce them into PC because we can easily add or take them away.

But the advantage in this case is Big Ant has control over what can be changed and what can't, allowing them to ensure major enhancements and gameplay changes are part of the next iteration and not modded by online community.

Umm .. Is this true ?

The Patch2 changes to gameplay and difficulty wont kick in with the current career that I am playing ?

EDIT: I quoted the wrong post I think :P But question still valid

Clearly Big Ant aren't that insecure about the degree of real improvements and feature additions to the next edition of the game.

No.

Nothing about insecurity but business sense. Once DBC 14 is nailed after patch 2 or 3, Big Ant should have the goodwill of the cricket gamers and the platform to build on for a long running and successful franchise. I wouldn't jeopardize it by allowing modding to core gameplay, at least something I haven't made available via academy or sliders.

You my friend are in fear , im sure whatever modders can do here(if at all a breakthrough is made), Bigant will be able to top it atleast 10x times over in next iteration.
If at all anything what modders do will be a hint to BA to concentrate on those areas.

Modding always keeps people hooked on to a franchise and updated till the next version comes, it will only increase interest, when the next version comes, ex: oblivion, GTA SA. etc....

There's a difference between a niche title and a blockbuster one. Cricket gaming has limited consumer base and you can't afford for a major portion of those to hold back for the next iteration.

those were ex, niche ones have even better mods support like, arma1, witcher1, mount n blade warband, etc i could go on,when all these started, all had mod support that propelled them further and in no way affected their further iteration but improved it further and made them more visible, attracted more people into the franchise.

Hope you got the other points i made too, modding is not will never be a bane to any game and the fear you have is unfounded. No one will hold back for a future iteration of dbc due to mods available for dbc 14.

I expect a very small percentage of the user base to use mods unless we make them very easy to access.
