DBC14 Modification Discussion

Do you think EA "allowed" it to be modded?

EA was indifferent to modding but if Big Ant/ Ross clearly state they don't want gameplay to be modded, I don't think it would be supported on PC.net

The only thing we'd do differently to the EA games is not allowing modified exes - that was a step too far as it bypassed the copy protection on the game. Second to that would be any patch aimed at assisting piracy - such as not allowing the sharing of rosters/players outside of the cricket academy.

Basically, if you can figure out a gameplay patch without doing those things, you can post it.

The only issue for me in such mods, apart from piracy, is the sanctity of online and the introduction of an unfair advantage.

thats why can mods be sandboxed, thats is whenever we are using external files related to gameplay you can disable leaderboards and online.

how?

like skyrim mod manager does.

Like you are already reading files from the external DBC folder for kits, you can have another folder in it for gameplay files,
give an option in CA or an external launcher to load and unload them.[This is not compulsory we can just rename the folder to not play with mods, this is just to make it convenient]

So whenever external files are loaded from that particular location, you can disable the leader boards like you have done for rookie level in career also online.

After playing, once i unload the mod files, CA can restart back with the unmodified original files with online and leader board enabled.
This is general idea ross, but i dont how feasible it is with DBC, if it is possible it would be great.

Not at all easy when people are talking of changing binary files.

All we *might* externalise would be some variable files - not code.

even that would be great ross:yes anything thats gives some ability to tinker with AI and shots, ball swing spin, factors would be cool.

I would love to see a clothing template similar to the bat template Matt was able to product. At the moment it is quite difficult to easily determine where different areas start/end on the template files without a lot of trial and error.

Probably a difficult question to answer, but would you be happy with mods that:

1) Extended the shelf-life of the product and resulted in significant improvements (e.g. Cricket 07)
2) BUT did introduce a small amount of piracy, by virtue of requiring a cracked EXE

As for online, I don't know how to deal with that. The code masters games were not modded aside for visual stuff (I think) and the earlier EA games which had huge modifications had no online.

We would never support changes to the exe file.

This could introduce all sorts of issues including Trojans, Viruses, etc.. There have been downloads claiming to be the DBC14 PC version for around six months now, mostly virus ridden ad spammers.

I dont think we need to modify .exe ross, AFAIK (i could be wrong) the exe modding in c07 was done mostly to load the external config files, because EA werent around to make it accessible.

As you would be providing us with configs i dont see reason for exe modding and any modification to .exe for loading of these configs and preventing online will have to be done from your end.which should keep it good.

It needs to be rectified before starting career..After it is started no changes can be made...So my suggestion start a new career after Patch#2 is released..:D

LOL. I am playing for my national team and my age is 21.
I should leave that and start again?

This can be used an rough kit template with the current gen one to get an idea of it, its not exact but should help.
