Dec 3-7: 2nd Test: Australia v England at the Adelaide Oval

Last Ashes in Adelaide England batted first and made 6/551 dec. Then Aussies made 513, then England out for 129, then Aussies won 4/168. So England made this big score in first innings and still lost. So history can mean some hope for Australia. But Australia didn't make 500 runs in their first innings, and I can't see them getting England all out for 129.

But that was against Lee McGrath Warne Clark etc.

England should ideally look at batting just once here. Maybe bat the entire day tomorrow and part of the 4th day too. That should help them get around 650-70 and leave them with enough time to bowl out Australia.

Who agrees that Clarke and Hussey should swap batting positions?? Instead of dropping Clarke.

Clarke has always done well batting under an inform hussey

A very small part of me is feeling sorry for the aussies its embarassing how bad they are now considering their years of domination.
However the rest of me is loving watching us grind them into the ground day after day.

Come on england i smell blood..

Hmm well I remember Warne in the first innings last time quite well. He got to the stage of coming around the wicket to bowl about a metre outside KP's leg stump.

It's an extremely small part of me - tip of the little finger kind of thing. I was 3 when we last won the Ashes in Aus so it's not exactly in living memory.
That said not counting any chickens; just enjoying the series (a lot).

While the bowling was crap in general, you can't be too critical on the bowlers. Even our last Ashes attack on this very ground of Lee, McGrath, Clark and Warne were 3/468. All goes back to the batting with a number of silly shots coupled with guys not going on with their starts.

Although the attack was nonthreatening at times they did provide problems during some periods. Trott should have been out 3 times before he was due to bad fielding.

Have to say though that Dothery looks way short of First Class standard let alone Test standard. I though that Monty darted it a bit too much but that's all he seems to do. I don't understand why someone hasn't told him to bowl it a bit slower a try to get a bit of flight on it.

As things stand in my eyes they should bring back Hauritz as he was significantly better than Dothery however it looks unlikely and must say that Australia should probably go in with the four seamers whilst retaining North for his bowling as he's actually been very impressive with the ball.

On the English front we've been close to perfect thus far. Bowling, fielding and batting all came together in the match so far and its been a pleasure to watch them.

Only way North should keep his spot is if hes playing at 8. His main role is his batting and he ain't up to it.

On Doherty, he looked good in the 1st innings at the Gabba but has lost the plot since then. But he was always on a hiding to nothing as the first 3 test matches are on non spin friendly tracks and even the best offie in Murali struggled over here. Some reason he isn't using his arm ball which he showed in the ODI, that should be a given for Test cricket. Guess the one plus is Hauritz did perform at the WACA instead falling of the face of the earth like other spinners that have been dropped.

Another extremely flat pitch then, puts into perspective how good Anderson was with the ball yesterday.

I think it's a first, but I'm worried that the weather over there might cost us a win against Australia, rather than saving us from losing.

There's still a full three days left. We bat half of tonight, have a good bowl at them for the evening. Then there's two days with overcast conditions and with small breaks every now and again.

From what I heard it isn't meant to be persistent rain just heavy showers so it could work in out favour.

Well yeah, obviously if it starts swinging sideways, then it's great, but Thunderstorms being forecast for the last two days doesn't sound great.

Going on and off can also help the bowling side more than the batting side. Still, that's a long way off.

Excellent day for England.
