Don Bradman Cricket 14 General Discussion

That's why I suggested a different well know cricketer for every cricketing nation on the cover of the game.

That will only cause confusion , i think with brianlara cricket 99 and 05 i have seen some arguing ponting or shane warne cricket weas better than BL.
Like BIggs said not a goodway to build a brand esp when the dev studio are themself small compare to codies or EA, who can may be say EA CRICK or CODIES present soso.

Whatever said and done there is reason a man's name is still etched in memory for more than half a century since he last batted and is still the benchmark in cricket,I think this is the Best title you can get .

Dumb idea. You want a consistent icon you can build a brand around, globally. Ideally a timeless icon of some note that you can build upon some existing heritage...

Bradman fits that bill, perfectly. Lara would, Warne would... Benaud, Botham, etc...

SRT would......:D

Hey BD! Long time, consumed by the festivities? Lol

*back on point* true that, I think Big Ant will have a look and thought about it,,,seemingly, the next player on the cartds of retiring would be Chanderpaul

Yeah i have been real busy, then when you log in after being away for a couple of days it takes AGES to catch up :)

I don't agree.
And Biggs, don't call any idea that doesn't conform to yours 'dumb'.
Have some respect for other people's opinions.
And to reply to your other comment about me, yes, I have only been a member since December but I think I might have more to contribute than some of the posters on this forum, who seem to be happy just to be abusive to others.

I think if anyone is interested enough to buy a cricket game would be likely to know the Bradman name. even if they don't know him, if they googled him, i can't think of anyone who would be more impressive. I think there is also - especially in the light of what happened with Ashes - merit in having a long(ish) dead icon of the game - it doesn't feel like a cash in, which it could do with still-living icons such as warne, lara, tendulkar...

I think the regional idea, while not dumb certainly dilutes the impact of the "legend" license. Also, other legends still aren't Bradman... To me the only names to come close - and who's records would stand up to someone googling them knowing nothing else - would be Hobbs, maybe Sobers (but that needs them to know enough to appreciate the difference between an all rounder and a specialist). And still, they aren't Bradman.

Lies, damned lies and statistics is all well and good, but there's no arguing with 99.94

Don Bradman Cricket presents: Mohammad Asif - version with a tenner stuffed down the back of the liner notes in exchange for good reviews.

Don Bradman Cricket presents: Kevin Pietersen - version in which the AI has been completely deleted.

Don Bradman Cricket presents: Arjun Ranatunga - version in which CD is also a functional dinner plate.

Don Bradman Cricket presents: Shane Warne - version in which help menus consist entirely of the phrase "it's not rocket science, just get the beers in and have a laugh."

Ok, I know when I'm beaten. ;)
I just think when people are browsing for a game in their local games shop that a national cricket icon would sell the game better.

You may have a point but there are two important considerations:
1. Australia is the primary market for release hence Bradman
2. Big Ant (and the Bradman Foundation) would not want to dilute the brand by "sharing" the cover with "lesser" player.

3. Not to mention the license costs
@barmyarmy and i wouldn't call other legends as "lesser" rather "more mortal " players.

Well I put it in inverted commas for a reason. The point is that if you start with the twin assumptions that Bradman is the best and Big Ant Cricket is the best then having other players too makes no sense. That and the cost as you said...

@1815 you might have a point, past cricket games have been mainly focusing on batsman, except for Shane Warne, they could look also at other aspects, more bowlers as well as fielding is a skill, Jonty Rhodes' namw comes up

The focus should be balanced as well, its as if they're saying cricket is batting

Some would like; Michael Holding, Malcom Marshall, Muralitharen, Makhaya Ntini, McGrath, Allan Donald, and so on *just saying*

But there isn't really a bowler with stand out stats and a huge name like Bradman.

Arguably SF Barnes with 189 wickets at 16 is pretty stand out but few people have heard of him and he is not an icon in Bradmanesque terms.

The fact is you can put a lot of bowlers together in terms of number of wickets, average, strike rate etc. but you can't put any batsman near 99.94

The bench mark set by bradman hasnt been broken or been touched yet whereas every other record has been bettered over the course of history.

add to that the invincibility he carries.

hardly any of us have actually seen don bat except for a few blurry clips and word of mouth stories .

Thats what makes him this legend that everyone hears and is curious about and makes what he accomplished even more special cause we actually dont know how it can be done.no one we have seen has come close to it,hence his brand value.

It is our hope that Bradman will become the "Madden" of Cricket games. We already hold other licenses however decided not to use them as we think it would dilute the brand and message.

Perhaps over time there could be a Bradman game with licensed content, however I would be more than careful in making a link that looked like an endorsement by Don Bradman of a particular player, perhaps with the exception of Tendulkar as we know there was mutual respect there.

IMO Bradman should be the biggest name in cricket and should be known by all that are even slightly interested in cricket, as @BD 99.94 says it all. I hope we can play some small part in introducing his name to generations to come.
