ING Cup ? Game 1
Victoria Bushrangers Vs Western Australia Warriors
The WACA, Perth
Monday 30th October 2006

Welcome to the WACA ground in Perth ahead of this ING Cup match between the Western Warriors and the Victorian Bushrangers. It looks to be a good day here for what will be a cracking contest between two of the talented teams in the domestic competition.

Pitch Report

The typical Perth pitch is in for this match. It?s flat it?s hard and a batsman?s paradise. Look forward to a run fest here today as the Warriors will look for revenge after they lost the 4-day game in Melbourne. I?d be saying around about 270 upward would be a good first innings score out here.

The Coin Toss

Cameron White call?s heads and loses the toss

Chris Rogers said:
We?ll have a bad mate. You always bat first up here and especially as it?s a one day game. We?ll be looking forward to our revenge in tis one.

Cameron White said:
Obviously we would have liked to bat first but we have a good bowling attack up here and we cant wait to get our one day season started after a tough pre season but it will all be worth it.

West Australia Line-up

A strong looking batting line-up as usual will be looking to make the most of batting first up here and they start favorites simply by winning the toss. The extra bowler is in use today which will provide an extra option should the team be in trouble. It?s hard to go past the WACA?s to win the ING cup and the tip from the betting ring is they will play off with NSW

Victorian Line-up

The Bushrangers can bat along way down but there bowling may be a bit thin on a pitch like this although they do have a lot of options. There batting should be their strong point and you can never count them out of a chase. A big test for the Vic?s today as we will find out how good they are this season by this game.

Steady Progress

It wasn?t a flying start from a well rounded Warriors side but the steady run flow combined with keeping wickets in hand means the WACA?s are on the front foot.

The celebrations are few and far between in the first 30 overs

Rogers (59) and Voges (42) displayed how easy to is to bat at the WACA as they threaded balls through the infield almost to easily in the opening overs before they both found the keepers gloves. It is the feared partnership at the crease of North and Goodwin and what a time for Cameron White to turn to his youngest team mate and say ?Warm up Slats. Your on next?.

Western Warriors 2/127

North 9(11)*
Goodwin 16(16)*

Lewis 1/34

Slatter Rolls The Arm Over

With 20 overs to go in the West Australian innings our bowlers had done some hard yards to keep the runs down but now it was in my hands and as usual Camo wanted to remind me of a few things before either start of my first one day spell. ?Slats forget 4 day cricket if you bowl bad balls here your going to get smashed. I don?t care if you don?t get any wickets just keep the runs down before the death overs mate.?

If I could keep the runs to no more then 5 an over I would be happy with the job leading into the final overs. The run rate wasn?t all that fl;ash but I knew that it was my inexperience that the Warriors would target to get the final score up.

It wasn?t looking to bad for Slatter after 3 overs of hard work and he also picked up some key pointers from seasoned veteran Brad Hodge who has also played for Australia

Slatter showed that he isn?t just the on the spot bowler as he produced a ripping bouncer that wrapped his West Australian opponent on the gloves. However we are yet to see his bowling capture a scalp at domestic level.

In hindsight Camo probably kept me on for an over to long and I expected him to take me off after an expensive 6th and that?s just what he did. In the last 10 over the Warriors really did step on the gas with wickets in hand getting the score right up they?re through some big hitting. There weren?t any stand out?s with the ball as only 5 wickets fell in the final score of 270. Coincidentally this is the exact score predicted in the pitch report but will it be enough?

Slatter offers encouragement to his team

Victorian Bushrangers Require 271 Runs at 5.42 Runs An Over

Unlucky in terms of bowling.

The presentation is great!

The Vic?s got away to a strong start through Klinger (25) and Moss (55) but some tight bowling sore the Warriors keep there nose in front. Hodge (27) and Rummnas (38) batted with a little bit of caution through the middle overs but with wickets in hand it?s still up for the taking.

Im beginning to think run outs have to do with me coming in next as yet again I watched a mix up result in my time to bat. This time it was Graeme Rummans on the wrong end and out by centre metres after hesitating on the second. I now face one of one day crickets toughest situations on one day debut with just 10 overs to get my eye in and then start smashing it.

It may just be up to Hussey and Slatter to win the match for the Victorians here on West Australian soil but can they get the runs at 8 an over?

Victorian Bushrangers 4/182
Run Rate 4.65

Rummans 38(66)
Hussey 27(30)*

Slatter faces up to his frist ball

These situations are not easy no matter what standard of cricket you are playing and the ever amounting pressure of the required run rate took it?s toll on Hus who tried to go aerial but didn?t get anywhere near the middle of the bat and as a result got caught inside the circle. Being new to the crease i need to start hitting the boundary quickly if we are to have a chance at victory.

Pressure of lack of runs got to Hus

Cameron White is the new man in and can bat a bit but with two new batsman at the crease now and almost 10 runs an over required the Warriors have to be big favorites to be the first team to bring in a win at there home ground in the ING Cup.

Victorian Bushrangers 5/194
Run Rate 4.59

Another nail in the coffin for the Victorians comes as Cameron White the Victorian skipper departs after sweeping straight down the throat of deep backward square. 16-Year-old Slatter now holds all hope of an unlikely win for the visitors but it would require something out of the ordinary. Just 6 overs remain now for Slatter to go hell for leather in search of the winning runs.

Cameron White is gone along with alot of Victorias hopes

Maybe Slats can pull off a miracle against the mighty West Aussies :D
