Bravo and Allstars too Hot to Handle
1st Match Stanford Series, Barbados
Allstars 176-6 beat Trinidad 122-10 by 54 runs
Bravo the star of the day celebrates the win
A spectacular Dwayne Bravo knock and some searing pace bowling helped Stanford Allstars
to a 54-run victory over Trinidad in the opening match of the Stanford Super Seires.
Bravo clubbed 75 not out off just 46 balls as Stanford Allstars hit 176-6 in the nighter
at a sell-out Barbados.
And with the Barbados wicket showing some help for the paceman, Allstars's quick men
reduced the Trinidad to 31-5.
Sherwin Ganga hit four sixes in his 56 off 31 balls but Chris Gayle's side were already
well on their way to victory.
Trinidad's chase got off to a disastrous start when A.Barath top-edged the first ball,
from Jerome Taylor, to wicket-keeper Andre Fletcher.
Taylor, Darren Powell and Ryan Emrit all justified their selection by bowling with great
pace and no little accuracy, and Trinidad never remotely threatened.
Suliemann Benn, winning a Allstars cap ,took a wicket in his first over by making a mess
of Ravi Rampaul's stumps as he moved across his stumps to try to carve a boundary through
the on-side.
That made it 59-7 and an embarrassingly huge defeat loomed for Trinidad.
But Ganga, who treated Bravo with complete disdain, made the scorecard less painful.
Benn finally ended the match by bowling Badree in the 19th over, with the Trinidad all
out for 122.
Allstars, captained by Gayle, had picked two specialist seamers, two allrounders and two
spinners -namely Taylor, Powell, Bravo, Emrit, Benn and Mohammed - and were always in
command after posting such a big total.
There was drama before play began when keeper Andre Fletcher was rapidly drafted into the
side at short notice following a late injury to Lindon James.
He delighted fans with a huge six and a slightly streaky boundary in a partnership with
Bravo, who had hit most of his runs in tandem with Marshall (33), Chanderpaul (22) and
Ramnaresh Sarwan (26).
There were few crumbs of comfort for Trinidad, though Rampaul bowled tidily, and Ganga will
feel his batting is in good nick.
