England in India - Oct to Jan 2012/13

DRS should be mandatory, if the Indians/BCCI/whoever don't like that then they can ahem off.

At 60/3 England have an opening, again tomorrow's morning session could prove crucial as to the direction this match takes. Of course India can battle through like England did, thanks in no small part to FIVE scores of 44-73, but England are on the back of two straight wins and coming from behind whereas India have hit rock bottom in the past two Tests. At 242/7 India had a good chance to wrap the England innings up before 300, they conceded a further 88 runs and Swann made hay.

1-3 against England at home, the same opposition that lost 0-3 to Pakistan in UAE earlier this year, would be about as humiliating as you can get - well maybe not as humiliating as say losing to Bangladesh or Zimbabwe at home, but in terms of realistic home defeats.

Board is against the UDRS? Thanks to BCCI then for letting our players to be given out when they clearly aren't. Good going BCCI! :facepalm

LOL. Got a bit carried away there. I was trying to say that if Indian players are so concerned with the wrong decisions, I fail to understand why they cannot use UDRS when every other test playing nation is using the technology. Pujara's decision could have easily been reverted if the UDRS was used.

And wouldn't some of England's decisions have been reversed too? It is a bit swings and roundabouts, but I do not see why anyone would object to a system that will IMPROVE accuracy of decisions even if it is not 100% perfect. Does anyone want sport to be that perfect?

Most of us just want terrible decisions made right, unfortunately football is dragging its high heels over technology and the only use it is being put to is the relatively rare decision over balls crossing the goal line which is a drop in the ocean compared to other awful decisions such as penalties given/not.

I think India rejects UDRS because when Kumble was captain and he took India on a tour and used UDRS, they used it so stupidly. They would use it on decisions that were so obvious. I recall Tendulkar using it on a nick he got to the keeper. It was a pretty thick edge too, and he wasted UDRS on it. They kept doing that. It's like they were magically wishing for the decisions to get overturned.

Interesting phase in this match. If india are bowled out for something like 250, England will have a huge chance of winning this series. It will be momentous occasion for English cricket. It is making our 3-0 whitewash of the English all more fantastic.

I remember that tour.It was against Sri Lanka I think. There were many stupid DRS decisions though.India always had not so great relationship with the DRS.Remember the 2.5 m case in World Cup.
Anyways ,I think any technology which can reduce errors by even a small margin should be embraced. The BCCI should really move on.They are simply being stubborn.

So India close day 2 on 87/4, doubt they can make above 250 mark, still an interesting game though alot depends on those first two hours tomorrow morning, if the English get two early wickets they would most likely go on to win, one thing is for certain a draw seems unlikely. Tendulkar fails once more, being bowled lolz!

Superb knock by Root on debut. Obviously this India side for a while now has been very mediocre, but still, on a pitch like that, to grind out crucial runs is a very impressive start. I just don't know what to do about Bell. Unfortunately as (I think Owzat) pointed out, when Bell fails, he fails badly and I'm wondering if we can afford to carry him in the team full stop. I know our next series is against NZ in NZ and is a while away, but I would quite like to see: Cook, Compton, Trott, KP, Bairstow, Root, Prior make up our top 7. I know Root is technically an opener, but having someone in the middle of our batting line-up who can grind out runs is very useful in situations like we saw yesterday.

Also Anderson. What a bowler!!!!

87/4. India can motivate themselves for the fact that back in 2003 against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, India were reduced to 85/4 at one stage and thats when Rahul Dravid (233) and VVS Laxman (148) stitched a mammoth 303 run partnership as India managed to win that test with 4 wickets in difficult conditions and against a very fine team. We surely don't have Dravid nor do we have VVS but it shows that the conditions are lot better now than what those two legends faced so its no the end for India. Batters can put their head down, try and bat for long hours and runs will come and ultimately our chances of winning the match will improve.

Seriously? LOL

I think if this goes on, India should actually start to think of giving up their test status and just focus on the shorter formats. Will we see another Ganguly-Dravid-Tendulkar-Laxman era in Indian test cricket? Highly doubt so.... Its official! We are back to the dark 90's and it has all co-incided with the retirements of Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman (and of course an ageing and not scoring Tendulkar). That article on Cricinfo about India coming a full circle to Eden Gardens 2012 from where hey started in Eden 2001 is now ringing so true!

Nothing is impossible Sai. Once Kirti Azad rightly said that we can't expect anything. No one expected India to get a great cricketer like Sunil Gavaskar very soon when Gavaskar retired but then, after few years of his retirement, we got a cricketing gem called Sachin Tendulkar. Logically, I second you but you really never know.
