Yup, I cannot see Kaarthick's selection as anything but trying to keep a few people quiet (people complaining about selection policy). Dhoni has been pretty consistent and phenomenal in the ODI arena. What if Kaarthick scores a blinding century? Do we sacrifice a bowler or batsman to include him in the squad?

There is news that many England players had to be given IV fluids in dressing room during the match! In Indore, the venue for the 7th ODI, conditions aren't expected to improve either.

Whilst I do believe that there has to be limits regarding the heat, I do also accept that it is very difficult for the Bcci to get it right.

When they played earlier in their year the early morning or late evening dew was meaning the side that won the toss had a massive advantage. Whilst now the toss doesn't have such a decisive bearing but the heat is close to being dangerous to the players health. It is a tricky balancing act.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge on the Indian general weather patterns can help me here? Are their areas of India that would be more feasible for Odi cricket at this present time of the year? Are the venues currently being used the best possible for a mixture of sporting and safe cricket, or is the "need" to spread their Odis over as many venues as possible getting in the way? Appreciate any insight, thank you.

To add about Kaarthik, surely you want to see any player representing India do well? I would hope that Dhoni does to. Competition for places is a good thing. Dhoni has been in good form and his place is assured, hence being given a rest. It is however key that you have players with experience waiting to take their place. If Dhoni suffered some kind of long-term injury or even a drastic dip in form, you surely want players who have shown they can handle the situation taking their place.

If Dhoni could not handle the pressure of someone else waiting in the wings, then he would never have made it to International Cricket.

Perfect! Its nothing wrong to have some one breathing down Dhoni's neck. And of course, as Indian fans, I would want each and everyone to do well for the team.

@sohum - I dont think Kaarthick would replace a batsman or a bowler if he scores a blinding century. Our team management has been pretty decent (would love to use a more praiseworthy word but this seems fine) in using the right players for the right situations. I dont think we will ever go with two wicketkeepers in the XI with one just for batting. We are spoilt for options in the batting department for long long time and definitely we have the specialist batsmen who are better than Kaarthick, the batsman!

I do not think England should risk playing Flintoff, Pietersen and Strauss in the final ODI, as the conditions at Indore is expected to be as bad as Jamshedpur. Considering the fact that the first test against SL is less than a month away, it would be better to give the likes of Owais Shah, Kabir Ali and Gareth Batty a game. They need to have a full strength squad for the summer, to get things back on track.

Agreed. Kaif must also be kicked out of the playing 11. He must be used as a sub for his good fielding . Rao and Utthapa mustbe given chances. :)

its not a bad idea to give him a chance in the final ODI. We cannot keep relying on one poor fellow, may be they are looking at Karthik as a possible replacement for WC. Indeed he won't be breaking back into the team, but when possible, its fair enough to give him/others a chance.

Replacement after the WC? Dhoni is only 24 hes got at least 2 more WC in him. They are just looking at giving their backup keeper a chance. Aus have done it a few times.

replacement in the case of an injury, or other reasons. You do not want Dravid to captain, keep wickets and bat....

Oh right I thought you meant to replace Dhoni. As I said definitely worth while to give your backup keeper a few games. Keep them in touch with international standards. Dravid has enough on his plate as you said, plus he isn't a specialist keeper.

Not in the team, in the squad. Why would you pick two keepers in your right mind? :p

Yeah *cough cough* No idea why anyone would pick 2 keepers.. *cough cough*

Would definately have to be some kind of mad man *cough cough*

Although to be fair to Fletcher in the 4th Odi, his mad plan finally came to light! He had clearly had a premonition that during the England v India one-dayers one of his keepers would be injured and unable to take the gloves, so he had to pick two all along just to be sure :p

I think KP isn't that bad. I'd rest Freddie still.

Strauss might not be fit.

Next game team.

Jones in for Prior if fit.
Keep Hoggy- might as well give him a chance when only pride is at stake.
Shah in for Strauss if Strauss is unfit.

How hot is it expected to be in Indore? Same mid 40's with high humidity? Gosh! That would be terrible again if its like that! Hope its a bit warmer!

Would England want to rest Pietersen, Strauss and give India more chances of getting one more win under the belt, or would they look to garner one more win and salvage more pride and try to get back more on the right track for the World Cup? I am sure the Indians would now be more hungry for a win at Indore now that they have lost at Jamshedpur. Their captain and Mr. Reliable Dravid is going to be back and I also feel Irfan who is a very important part will be back too.

what are you saying? the super sub rule isnt alive anymore!

do you mean 'sub' as in substitute fielder in case a fielder from the XI has to get back to the pavilion for some injury or something else? why would you have a specialist fielder just for being the substitute? you can as well kick Kaif out of the squad instead of doing that!

Kaarthick deserves a better chance than Parthiv. Parthiv has been given lot of chances. Let him grow more in domestic cricket. He can come in later when he is more matured. Dinesh is more deserving!

Who knows? Robin Uthhapa is known to keep wickets. It seems he has kept wickets before. So India might hone his keeping skills too. They didnt hone Dravid's keeping skills when he came into international cricket. And then suddenly when Ganguly had no option, he asked Dravid to keep wickets to save Dravid from being dropped. And since Dravid lost a lot of his touch with keeping, his keeping wasnt upto the standards.

That's what we are looking for.
If Karthick scores a century in the Mahi-ve fashion,it's good for us.
We want someone to be a reserve and prove himself when given a chance.
Look at Australia, whenever Mcgill is given a chance he makes the most of it.

Suresh Raina fields better than Kaif.
Rao,agreed he desrves more chances.I'd say just as many as were given to Gambhir.
Uthappa, when you do have a keeper in him,why do you want Dinesh Kaarthick ?

The fella has lived enough in the Indian team,i'd say.
You[BCCI] have kicked out Ganguly,so kick out Patel.

Regarding Ganguly,I feel that he must be back in the team.

International Match 6 - Jamshedpur.
What's Grieg Chappell and the team management playing at ?
You do not have Dravid,Tendulkar in the team. With Sehwag out of form, you need a strong person in the side. The experience may help.
