India edge closer to series win
Sreesanth managed to last 32 balls and make 8 runs before he was dismissed
by Sidebottom with India on 182. It was Sidebottom's 6th wicket of the innings,
wickets that were needed after a wicket-less match in the last test. Zaheer
Khan was the last to go, run out by Ian Bell trying to get Singh back on strike.
India made a good fist of things, managing to get up to 294.
England needed stability at the top, something that had been missing from the
previous two test matches. Again it was missing here, Alistair Cook continuing
his poor run of form, making just 3 before edging to Sehwag off the bowling
of Khan. Next to the crease was Kevin Pietersen, needing some sort of score
to regain his form. He could only manage 8 before he was trapped LBW by
a fantastic in-swinging delivery from Pathan. It was left to the middle order
to again save England. Michael Vaughan managed to do just that alongside
Paul Collingwood. Vaughan brought his fifty up in 77 balls, Collingwood just
holding up the other end trying not to give away his wicket.
It took a poor umpiring decision to remove Michael Vaughan. Straight after
tea, Vaughan yet to add anything to his tea-time score, was hit on the pad
by Pathan. The ball looked destined to be going over the top and maybe past
off stump. A hard appeal was enough to make Ian Howell to raise his finger,
the England skipper in disbelief had to go for 58. Collingwood was gone next
over, again an LBW decision going in favour of India. Harbhajan Singh managed
to get Collingwood pushing to wards the covers, the ball turned and hit
Collingwood's pad below the knee roll. It was tight as whether it hit him outside
the line, but Steve Bucknor raised his finger. England at this stage in deep
trouble with 87/4. Debutante Ravi Bopara and Ian Bell were left to pick up the
pieces, and they did just that with a crucial 61 partnership.
Ian Bell was the last victim of the day, Khan tempting Bell into playing the
hook shot which only managed to loop up and fall straight into the welcoming
hands of Sourav Ganguly. Bopara and Prior managed to see of the remaining
overs, but it still was to be a tough morning session tomorrow. Bopara will be
looking for his maiden half century on debut in the morning, but the real goal
is to get England withing touching distance of India's 1st innings score.

James Kirtley - Twenty20 hero
Ed Joyce - Pro40 Div 2, Middlesex vs Surrey - Ed Joyce hit a brilliant 70 from
104 balls against Surrey in their 12 run victory last week. His superb innings
got Middlesex up-and-running with their 1st win in the competition this season.
Against an attack that was made up of some fine, experienced bowlers in
Mohammad Akram, Harbhajan Singh, Chris Schofield and Matthew Nicholson.
Ed Joyce will be looking for a re-call to the one day scene after he was dropped
from the England side after his poor World Cup performance.
Ian Blackwell - Pro40 Div 2, Somerset vs Derbyshire - Somerset's Ian Blackwell scored
a fine 49 from 51 balls and then took 2 for 29 from his 8 overs to make sure
Somerset gained their first Pro40 win of the season. Alongside skipper Justin
Langer, Ian Blackwell showed his formidable power by brushing aside the
Derbyshire bowlers. He then took 2 crucial wickets to make sure of the
victory. Blackwell played against India last year but was dropped for the
English summer. If performances continue in this vein, we could be seeing him
back for the Twenty20 World Championships or the tour of Sri Lanka.
Blackwell is a beast
