England v India 3rd Test
THIRD NPOWER TEST MATCH, The Brit Oval, day four
India 410/8 & 294 lead England 259 by 445 runs
__________________________________________________
Both Indian batsmen brought up their half centuries during the afternoon
session, India cruising along at a steady run rate. It wasn't until late in the
afternoon session that England managed to get the much needed breakthrough.
The breakthrough came via a run out, Ian Bell with the superb fielding at gully,
diving down to stop the ball and then hitting the stumps with little to aim at.
Dravid was the man to go, having hit 75 from 211 with 4 fours and a six. As
many times before, one wicket brings two, and luckily for England it was the
'Little Master' Sachin Tendulkar who went next. It was the part-time off spin
from Kevin Pietersen that claimed the prized wicket of Tendulkar. Tendulkar
went to hit one over mid-off but could only find the bottom of the bat straight
to Vaughan who took a simple catch. Tendulkar also made 75 but from just
180 balls hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes along the way.
Ganguly and Pathan settled things down through the final session, India now
well past a 300 lead. With the score at 349/5 Liam Plunkett took the first of
his three wickets, dismissing Dhoni at gully for 32. Just an over later he struck
again, again Ian Bell took the catch at gully, this time Pathan the man to go.
Plunkett rounded off England's wickets with Matt Prior taking a good catch to
his right to get rid of Singh.
Ganguly hit good late runs with Sreesanth blocking down at the other end to
leave India in a position in which they are expected to declare overnight.
England's only hope is to bat out day five, and with the pitch still pretty good
for batting they have every chance of doing so.
