England vs India
3rd Natwest ODI
August 27, 2007
Edgbaston, Birmingham

Thanks David. I am here with the two captains, Paul Collingwood and Rahul Dravid, and the match referee, Roshan Mahanama, for the coin toss. It's Rahul to call.

Heads

The call is a head, and it is indeed a head. What are you going to do Rahul?

We're going to have a bowl first.

Right, so your going to have a bowl. Have the grey conditions swayed your thoughts on the toss at all whilst deciding to bowl?

Yes, I would say so. It's a damp pitch and a slow outfield, and we think that it will be best for the bowlers early on. With it being damp and grey we expect the ball to move around a bit with the new ball, and then as the day progresses we think it may dry up a bit and be better to bat on.

It's 1-1 in the series, and so far it's been pretty even between the two sides. What are you looking from your players today, and are you happy with the way your team are performing?

Yes, I am very happy. We had a good test series and we've played well in the 50 over game also. We were poor in the 1st ODI, but last match we looked a much better team. We need to come together as a team and everyone needs to give 100 percent. If everyone can contribute a little bit then I'm confident we will win.

Finally, how will your batsmen go about chasing today? So far we have seen a few rash shots from the batsmen so far in this series. Is this something your concerned with?

Our batsmen are naturally aggressive players, and so I think they are going to get out playing some rash shots. Overall I'm not too concerned, but we'll see what we are chasing and take it from there.

Thanks Rahul, and good luck for today.

Cheers.

Paul, you've lost the toss, what do you think to batting first?

Obviously the conditions will be tough, but I'm confident we can get through the opening overs and post a good score.

What will you be aiming for on this damp pitch?

Anything over 200 will be a challenge for them to chase, and so I think that's got to be our target. We'll play as it goes for the first 40 overs and re-think depending on the situation. I'm confident we can make a good score and put India under pressure.

You've gone unchanged, were there any thoughts about bringing in another seamer in place of one of the batsmen or all-rounders?

We did talk about it, but we think that this team can win us the game and so we've stuck with it. The players know that nobody is safe from being left out, not even myself, and so they will be keen to put in a performance here today.

Well I'll let you get back to the dressing room. Good luck for the game Paul.

Cheers Beefy.

So, there you go. India have won the toss and they've sent England into bat. Back to you up there in the studio David.

Thanks Ian. India have won the toss and put England in. The cloud continues to surround the ground, but we should be in for a cracking contest here in Birmingham. Lets take a closer look a today's conditions.

There is a more than 50% chance of rain, which could see Duckworth-Lewis come into action. It's not that warm out there today, at only 11 degrees celsius, which will definitely suit the England team more than the Indians. With the pitch being quite wet, the batsmen will find it hard to score runs, and the outfield won't help things either. Overall, it is definitely a bowlers' day out there today, and expect to see quite a few wickets in both the innings.

We are just moments away from the start of this 3rd one day international, so join us after the break where England will start with the bat.

India chose the right decision in bowling first. They should try and put a lot of pressure on the batsmen and go for the wickets instead of being conservative. I hope there's not any rain but it does look likely.

Damn. A wet pitch is going to be a bother for the Batsmen. It also looks as though it is going to rain. I expect an Indian win.

Fantastic works Treva! It looks just like Sky Sports. Keep up the amazing graphics and writing!

Well the 1st innings has been completed, but now I have the mighty task of sorting out the hundreds of screenies I've taken over the course of the innings :p

Expect an update within the next couple of days :)

Both sides trade punches in opening twenty

England vs India
3rd Natwest ODI
August 27, 2007
Edgbaston, Birmingham

The England openers, Alistair Cook and Matt Prior, and the Indian team followed the umpires onto the field under dark grey skies. Once the Indian skipper had sorted out his field, Zaheer Khan came steaming in to bowl the first over of the match. Both the openers made a steady start, seeing off the first two overs from Khan and RP Singh. Cook struck two boundaries in the same Singh over to boost a slow run rate. Prior took little time in settling at the crease, smashing a few boundaries of his own.

With 19 runs on the board India took their opening wicket, that of Cook. The pace of Khan and slight movement in the air did for Cook, who couldn't get his bat down in time to stop Khan's yorker smashing into off stump. Cook had scored just 8, all coming from boundaries hit in the previous over. Khan looked sharp, racking up near 90mph, and getting slight away swing from the left hander.

This brought the in-form batsmen Ian Bell to the crease. Bell had hit scores of 48 and 44 in the first and second ODI, and was looking to add to that by scoring a big score today. Bell looked positive from the off, and picked up a few boundaries off both the pace-men.

There was still a good bit of movement in the air from both Khan and Singh. Khan swung it back in to the right handers, whilst Singh worked on pushing it across them. The latter managed to produce a brilliant away swinger that caught the edge of Prior's bat and flew toward Sourav Ganguly at fourth slip. Prior had managed to reach 22 from 27 deliveries, and had looked in good nick up until that ball.

Prior trudged off, passing the new batsmen, Kevin Pietersen. Pietersen came in fresh off the back of a match winning fifty in the previous ODI, looking for more of the same in tough conditions at Edgbaston. Pietersen got into his stride early and managed to pick up the ones and twos with ease, as well as being able to strike the occasional boundary.

At the other end Bell was finding the middle with almost every shot, and had started to lay into the bowling of RP Singh. This forced Dravid into a change, bringing on the spin of Harbhajan Singh instead of seam bowler Irfan Pathan. The decision looked to be a bad one as Ian Bell crunched two boundaries off the front foot in his first over. Harbhajan bounced back though in the second over, producing a flighted delivery to get rid of Bell. Bell tried to loft the ball over mid-on to pick up another boundary. Harbhajan gave the ball lots of air and Bell shuffled down the track and got a thick inside edge. The ball just ballooned up to mid-on where Pathan took a simple catch. Bell had looked good for his 31, hitting six fours at a run-a-ball.

Pietersen was joined by Owais Shah, and the pair continued to keep the score ticking. At the end of the twenty overs they had managed to move onto 99/3, at just under 5 an over. Pietersen had reached 25 from 35, and Shah 10 from 15. Their partnership had reached 33.

Zaheer was definitely going to cause problems against England, especially against the likes of Cook and Strauss. Bell was looking good but failed to accelerate to a good score. The change from Dravid to put the spinners on obviously worked. Great presentation Trev :D.

Love the presentation, Jack. Looks awesome. Considering England were 19/1 at one stage, it seems they have picked themselves up a little bit and look to be a little more comfortable. England have batted quite fast and seem to be on course to set a good total if they can keep the wickets in hand. Zaheer Khan has had all 10 overs that he can have so that is a plus, Come on England!

England in trouble 99/3 ....Zaheer has finished his spell  has Dravid gone mad...India need to keep taking wickets at regular intervals...

Class Presentation Treva and KUTGW :clap

Sorry for the lack of updates. This story hasn't stopped, just needed to think about things. I will continue in this style, but I will try and cut the updates so that it's not so much work. Look out for an update over the next few days :)
