England National football team thread

Ha well as i always had said throughout my life, if FIFA have never allowed Wales international status in football (since Wales is part of ENG when it comes to cricket for eg and some other sports), despite the identity the have similar to the Catalan part of Spain - ENG at various times of its history could have had some additional top players. As you say add Bale & Ramsey right now & ENG attacking strength would be real deadly.

Yep; not to mention what might have been if we'd had Giggs in an England shirt. ;) We would've definitely won Euro 96 at the very least.

Arsenal's victory over Marseille shows off growing strength in depth by James McNicholas - ESPN FC

quote said:
In footballing circles there is often outcry when a gifted Englishman such as Wilshere or Wayne Rooney is stationed on the wing, but it?s worth remembering that some of Europe?s most gifted playmakers have flourished on the flanks. The likes of David Silva, Andres Iniesta and Eden Hazard all play more regularly on wing than through the middle."

This is true and an England fan, the idea of Wilshere or Rooney playing out wide instead of in central positions does get me a bit nervous. But memories of how former coach Sven Goran played Scholes out on the left and forced him into retirement still haunts. But watching Wilshre playing on the right for Arsenal is making me have second thoughts about this idea:

So maybe an XI like this:

----------------------------Hart---------------------------------

Johnson-------Cahill--------Jagielka--------------Baines

----------------Gerrard------Carrick------------------------

Wilshere----------------Barkley----------------Rooney

----------------------------Sturridge-----------------------

Agreed about Cloughie and we should definitely follow Poland's example.

The Russians have been following it for some time, were the Poles inspired by them?

The Russians even have it for match day squads (If FM is right about this)!

Just read the article now, and it seems to be only for non-EU players.

Spain and Italy already have this system, a poor, poor article.

An extreme would be to follow the Russkis and implement their system.

Russia aren't in the EU so can do whatever they like regarding player restrictions. EU based leagues cannot differentiate between EU players and their own nationals, it is illegal.

Ah yes, how on earth did I forget that?!:facepalm
