England National football team thread

Oh dear - Wayne Rooney's temper gets the best of him again. Why did he do that? :facepalm

----------

The three likely English candidates are Redknapp, Hodgson and Allardyce. Of those three Redknapp wins by a landslide.

If by chance they go foreign again, i think the best choice is Hiddink.

Hiddink will win us the World Cup! :D

Nah, but seriously - I'm sure he'd do a cracking job with England - didn't he manage S Korea - look what a great job he did with them. :)

Edit: Lovely run by Welbeck - the kid's full of confidence right now. :)

Because players aren't robots and do have emotions? Sometimes they get the better of us. He knew it was wrong straight after he had done it, it's just one of those things.

He was obviously frustrated about how he was playing in the 2nd half and that just tipped him that little bit.

Fair enough, but he's a bit too prone to this sort of thing in International Football. Still, as with Eric the Great if you take that out of his game, you lose some of what's great about him.

And Montenegro have equalised. :facepalm A game that we should be bossing no problem!

A lot of people will blame Rooney now for Montenegro equalising but the fact is Montenegro have been completely all over England in the second half and that was always coming.

Read a good comment somewhere, Capello bought Lampard on because he knew England were losing the midfield battle and tbh I think Barry is awful.

----------

I also didn't think Parker played overly well. Feel free to counter that though.

----------

2 more things. Anyone see the 2 Montenegro fans on Sky, 1 got the Goalkeepers shirt and the other was ripping the turf off of the pitch to take away with him!

A body blow for England really, with Rooney having to sit out the first two games of Euro 2012.

I don't blame Rooney - I blame the team, we lost control of a match we were bossing. The fans were also going up to the England section - I hope that doesn't kick something off there. What did you think of Phil Jones and Ashley Young? Welbeck looked good I thought.

England totally took their foot off the pedal after going 2-0 up. Can hardly remember them testing the Montenegro's defence apart from the corners.

I think a lot of the media will blame Rooney, wasn't saying you personally or the people on PC.

Welbeck looked really good, think he should have been brought on earlier when Bent was constantly being flagged offside and getting frustrated rather than leaving it for when Wayne was sent off.

Ashley Young shouldn't have been subbed as he was playing well but looks as if he had a knock and think Capello was 1) being cautious and 2) wanted to give Downing a run.

Jones looked a bit hit and miss. Played well, but don't think RB is his best position, obviously.

@ Ollie: How did that second quote ended up with my name on it rather than Steve's? :lol

Just saw this on BBC.

2201: Just to confirm for you that Wayne Rooney will definitely now miss the first game of the Euro 2012 finals, with a second at the discretion of Uefa.

Someone on 5 live just said that Rooney shouldn't be playing for England anyway as he's not good enough. We should pick someone world class like Peter Crouch instead. :facepalm
He then got offended when everyone ripped the piss out of him.

You could stake your house on the media blaming Rooney. And it'll carry on if the first game of the tournament goes badly.

That has to be the radio equivalent of a forum troll. Has to be 'aving a laugh!

Bent shouldn't have started, Welbeck should have. He was completely non-existent in that game. Yes he scored a goal but his overall game offered nothing to the team. I really can't see what's so good about Gary Cahill. Him alongside Jones was always going to be a potential weakness to exploit as Cahill is crap positionally and Jones is still very naive.

Barry lacks the pace to compete at the top level. I like him and don't think he's a crap player as a lot of people seem to suggest, he's just out of his depth. Parker had a poor game too. How many times in that 2nd half did Montenegro waltz past the England midfield and exploit the gap between defence and midfield. It echoed the displays at the World Cup when Ozil tore England apart. This is exactly why I think Michael Carrick should be in the England squad.

Incredibly stupid from Rooney. He played well in the first half though. Is missing the first two Euro 2012 games that bad though? Effectively rested for the first 2 games and is fit and ready for the rest of the tournament.

Another impressive display from Ashley Young though. He's become a pivotal player in the England side over the last year.

IF England perform like they did in the World Cup, then it is bad!
