Story England: The New Breed! Kev Mead Called Up and Deputises as Skipper (ICC 06)

Hey! A career average of 100+ with the bat and less than 20 with the ball inconsistent!!

Crouch will have his vengence! :p

The match will only be starting tomorrow! I have a football match today and I won't be back until about 9 tonight. Simbazz is in charge of this thread until then!

Baines Hopes to lead from the Front

England opening bat Will (a.k.a Billy) Baines has expresed his desire to lead from the front and carry England to victory in the first test. Baines also said he could not wait to make his long awaited debut, after new coach, nicknamed Evo by the players, finally picked him. "I'd like to thank Evo for finally letting me play, its a dream come true."The Yorkshire player is looking to emulate his hero Geofrey Boycott, "I hope to bat all day, reaching my century just before the close. I will defend everything, I have waited ages for this moment , and now that its finally arrived, i'm not going to mess it up!"

But Baines was distraught to learn that instrmental spinner Simon BArrow has quit. "Oh he was my hero, i've always luked up to him and i was looking forward to being in the team with him. I can't believe hes retired, he was one of the greats of the test game

In an interview outside his country home Barrow stood giving an interview about his retirement from Test matches,

"Im aware of all the messages from players and fans alike and id like to say im very grateful for them. Im going to be at the ground tomorrow and i hear there is going to be some sort of ceromony for my career, id just like to say that i am grateful to Matt and everyone around England, they have made my stay in the team a pleasent one, the only regret i have is not captaining them, but i am happy with the One dayers!"

Barrow looked teary eyed as he talked and was clearly upset about his retirement but he had kind words for everyone in the team,

"yeah ive just seen the team sheet, and ive got to admit is a cracker, i especially like the balance Matt has got, and for the Drewska i cant say enough how much i admire his cricketing techniques, his bowling is absolute amazing, and i just hope him and the team absolutly tred on the Sri Lankans."

When asked about his squad and thoughts of the upcoming games Barrow was quite strict on not letting anything slip,

"Im going to have a chat with Matt over all the test days, and we will come to a decision just after the final day of the tests. I hear Sanath Jayseria my be back for the ODI and to that im thankful, he is an absolute legend in cricket, he was the guy i looked to when i was growing up and it amazes me that he still does it at the age he is. When you meet Sanath you are overwhelmed by his character, i knew he was quite well up on cricketing affairs around the world but he told me things i didnt know that was happening in USA cricket, i keep well up on the cricketing activities over there, it amazed me."

"The team is far from being decided and all im think of is tomorrows play, hopefully i can maybe help out with drinks or anything, aslong as i get a run out on that pitch im up for it."

"Matt knows im eager to help out with acadmy stuff and i hope he takes necessary actions in time to help me live my dream to coach"

Briggs Looking To Attack

Yorkshire opening batsman Shaun Briggs today announced his intention to announce his arrival on the test scene with an attacking display in tomorrow's opening test against Sri Lanka. The youngster has had a superb year averaging nearly 73 with the bat in the first 4 games of the season and at a strike rate of well over 70. When asked about his debut, Briggs seemed quite unerved to be playing on such a big stage. "Its everyone's dream to represent their country at some point in their career, and hopefully tomorrow I can show my true talent to the people of the world."

Briggs was also pleased to be opening the batting with fellow Yorkshire team-mate Will Baines. "Billy is a great player and we have shared many great stands, so hopefully tomorrow we can continue that and show how good our understanding is"

Briggs was also full of praise for Test captain Usman, "Usy is a great leader, having played against him a few times he has all the capabilities of a great captain, and I take it as an honour to be playing for him." However Briggs was dispondant at the dropping of superstar wicket taker Kev Mead. "Kev is a great bowler and I enjoy facing him in practice, but its just a shame he will be brining me a drink instead of fielding in his favourite 3rd man position tomorrow."

Hameed Looks to smash

Hameed Ahmad Surrey wicket Keeper is looking to keep the tail from being exposed with the bat and trying to take as many catches as he can. With Usman as the Captain England should win were the words of Hameed. Usman is a great Captain for Leciestershire.

Hameed was grateful to be picked ahead of Pinchy Mc pinch who is englands star keeper. My expectations are to hit a fifty and not to drop any catches. With a high score of 87 in his second match and an Av of 39 He should do that.

Hameed has only played 17 matches for surrey and was shocked to play for England agfainsta Sri Lanka. It is an Honour Hameed Said.

Right i'm back lads! Those of you who are interested, I captained my side to a 5-4 victory!

But let's get back on topic; I will start the match tomorrow so keep your eyes on this thread!

Zohaib Ready to Break Some Bones With His Pace

Youngster Zohaib Ahmed will look to break some Bones with His Pace, and swing. He says that his Manager would not regret his desision to include him into the Final XI. Zohaib who has found recent Form againest Australia, and other Nations looks to trouble most of the Batsmen in Srilanka.

For now, he manages a Football club called Chelsea. :p

England coach Matthew Roberts has stated that he is sorry to lose spin all-rounder Simon Barrow from his Test side. In a pre-match interview he had this to say:

"He's a legend of the game, and one of the best ever bowlers to play. Although he was an all-rounder, he merits a place in the side for his batting or bowling alone. I'm sad about this loss, but Drew Davie has been working hard for years to earn his place, and i'm confident he can perform well."

So just how good was Simon Barrow? Well he has played for the World XI in both Tests and ODI's, and he is the only player in the history of the game to score 8000 runs and take 500 wickets.

In other news, Matthew Roberts has also expressed his delight at his debutants eagerness to perform well.

"I am thrilled with the passion of players such as, Zoahib Ahmed and Shaun Briggs; It's great to see such enthuiasm in players as young as them."

He also went on to talk about Kev Mead, who misses a test for the first time in 34 matches.

"Kev is a fantastic performer for England, and his Test career is far from over. He himself knows that he hasn't been performing well, and he is determined to win his place back"

Mead, who has 247 Test match wickets to his name, understands that he is nearing the end of his career, and he also said that success for England is more important than him.
