England Tour Of Bangladesh 2010

If Wright is to be in the ODI side he needs to back any decent performances with figures/stats. 0/38 and 7 runs is not really contributing enough. I do wonder if England aren't more wrapped up in "bowling economically" still and not focusing on wicket taking enough. I intend to check out England results by wickets taken, bowling first being the more obvious target data/resource. I did something like that on one captain and pretty much showed that we win when we take 9-10 wickets and not so much when taking less.

Isn't that a fairly obvious conclusion?

loving the CI hawk-eye. look at those spins!! i wish Warne was still playing! oh wait i could see him on IPL! :banana2

Yea Cricinfo might have Hawkeye for the IPL but they might not as well considering the media restrictions the IPL has in place. Which means that Cricinfo won't have any photos from the matches. IPL is great, but the only problem is that it's run by greedy people.

so i wont get to see those massive spins and turns? i know Riyad is no where near Warne, but just take a look at this. Pick Mahmudullah, over # 19, first ball. ahh so fun!! :p it came in and went out. if he looks this fun, then i cant imagine Warne's hawkeye

Also the sky is blue
The point is that while a team like India can get 300+ and grind the other team out of it, England have to win by bowling out. Their policy definitely is one of containing to get wickets and it's at odds with the way they play.

Doesn't that go without saying though? If you don't have the batting strength you have to take wickets quicker and for cheaper? Maybe I am not grasping the full picture here .

I have a strong feeling that England team are gonna get owned badly in the next odi.

just a feeling though :D

I don't care how close the last game was, England will not lose.

You see, England are the only team to have never lost to Bangladesh, unlike ahem ahem

This Mahmudullah guy should bat at number 4.

There is always a first time. :p Plus they havent beaten any big team in the past one year. So it is around the corner. :)

Wright does need to start making some bigger contributions, especially with the bat. question is will he be given a chance in the test side?
I seem to remember the last time England toured Bangladesh Rikki Clarke was being touted as England's new All rounder saviour, and whats happened to him!!

Can't compare Wright to Clarke. Clarke was always a reluctant bowler with tonnes of injury problems.

that's true, but i never thought Clarke's batting was good enough for the top level. As for Wright, would he get in the side as just a batsman or a bowler alone. i'd say probably not

The problem is where the wickets come from. If you only have 250 on a good pitch and all you do is try to keep the scoring rate below 5, eventually the batsmen, with wickets in hand, will probably be able to afford the risks and get the last of the runs in a short burst, even if it means they start to lose wickets. If you bowl a team out with 10 overs to spare, they could be scoring 6 an over and still lose. Early wickets are worth a lot of expense.
