How many lives does Morgan have!
Kieswetter 100! Perfectly crafted limited overs 100. That should end all debate.
Loving the new batch Morgan, Trott and Kieswetter, suddenly KP doesn't seem so valuable/necessary/vital/(insert proper word). I think the pressure is definitely on him now.
"should end all debate" ??!?!?!? ONE good innings in three against lowly Bangladesh!!??!!?? oooooooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Good knock but let's not get tooooooooooo carried away with it, wait until he's scoring regular runs and getting those big scores against the big guns. You don't win a World Cup by beating Bangladesh, you have to beat the likes of India, Australia and South Africa.
Again I can't see what role Wright is playing in the side, sure he knocked up 32 runs but with Prior, Swann, Plunkett and Shazhad still to come it wasn't exactly if he was Obi Wan ("help us Obi Wan, you're our only hope") People complaining about him hitting out costing him his average should consider this kind of knock, quick runs and a not out which will bolster his average. He's never going to contribute much more than the odd 50 batting as low down as he normally does, he is a poor selection because his bowling isn't good enough to fill that all-rounder slot and he's not a frontline batsman.
So he's in the side for some late big hitting :happy, I didn't realise players were now being selected because they could hit a six or two as opposed to contribute a weight of runs or wickets. Since three other batsmen also hit sixes let's just say his 'specialism' isn't that special and I'm sure Prior, Bresnan or someone else could hit sixes as well as Wright. We do also need SUBSTANCE in our side, FIVE bowlers that can bowl 10 overs economically and pose a wicket threat (most times) and batsmen who can score big scores that win matches and not just cameos that are handy down the order for acceleration but it's not as if only certain players can do that.
Tough ask for the Bangles, but it is an inexperienced England attack unless you count Collingwood who bowls more than a decent bowling attack would dictate he needs to, although he does a decent job he is either one of the five or the five should ALL do their jobs more than they do
Bresnan - 20 ODIs, 21 wkts @ 38.76
Plunkett - 27 ODIs, 37 wkts @ 34.05
Wright - 30 ODIs, 11 wkts @ 46.36
Shazhad - debut
Swann - 31 ODIs, 36 wkts @ 27.69
Plunkett's last ODI was July 2007, somewhat surprising as he can bat and at a decent SR, his average isn't that bad even if his ER is a tad on the high side, and we've not had Flintoff regularly available for some time. Not convinced Bresnan is a whole lot better, nearly half his wickets have come against weaker opposition and his batting average is boosted by one score of 80 (1/3 of his runs) and SIX not outs in 15 knocks.
BRESNAN ODI BOWLING
vs AUS/SAF/SRI : 11 wkts @ 55.91
vs BAN/IRE/SCO/WIN : 10 wkts @ 19.90
Bits n pieces cricketer at ODI level, like Wright. He can bat, he can bowl but England need bowlers who can make breakthroughs, put the pressure on and keep it on. They do an ok job batting-wise, but that alone won't win you many matches. And to think England have shut out bowlers in the past two decades for much lamer reasons than not being good enough and given them less chances than some (relatively) lame ducks get these days. Oh how the policies have changed, in the old days you wouldn't get away with being this ordinary and there'd have been six bowlers tried in place of the number of caps given to these two. When will selectors pick the right players AND give them a chance, these two may well end the series with decent figures but against a side any top bowler or batsman would be filling their boots against.
