Wright to Mashrafe Mortaza, FOUR, what a start! He marks his return to international cricket with a fine shot, getting a touch on a ball slipping down leg and helping it down to the fine leg boundary

welcome back boi

This has been dire from England, it was to be expected though, this is such a dire bowling attack. Sidebottom and Bresnan are not good enough, and on these sort of pitches 2 spinners is a must. Don't have much faith in our back-up seamers either. Would rather see Plunkett in place of Sidebottom, but Shahzad is not going to be a match-winner this early in his career. Just hope we're not embarrassed and end up losing this game, we should not be being beaten by Bangladesh, but this is just the sort of bowling attack and pitch that we normally fail on though. Not feeling particularly optimistic.

Tamim has played really well though. Highlighted him as the danger-man in my mind before play, and he's duly delivered. The delivery Sidebottom bowled which resulted in the dropped catch wasn't worthy of a wicket anyway, so there's no qualms there. Been a well composed and constructed innings. Looks a good player.

Bangladesh's problem is they're losing too many wickets. Run rate is really good. Tamim played well by the sounds. He looked good in NZ but got too carried away in childish antics and I think it distracted him.

England's odd tactics and poor bowler selection are keeping this game alive. All three of our opening bowlers conceding 40+ runs of 7-8 overs, but for the two run outs I reckon Bangladesh would be well in charge

I was wondering if Wright would bowl, he comes on and takes a wicket. Sums this game up so far (from England's perspective) - farce. Considering the position the Bangladeshis were in, our bowlers should have shut the run-rate right down. Perhaps some of those bowlers should ask themselves if they're so sure they'd walk into the Bangladesh side................................

What a knock this is by Iqbal, :clap. Bangladesh should at least try and get to 230. I reckon Razzak and Shakib can apply pressure through the England innings with their tight economical bowling.

ahh Tamim all alone now. damn. Riyad really couldnt afford to get a duck today. but cant ask him to hit runs every time. 2,3,4 gotta perform. starts needs to be converted. 20s-30s wont cut it

batting PP? damn shouldnt have taken it. Tamim will go nuts now. stay there

I agree 100%. The problem is we have a long lower order, but no real strength. How many ODI fifties do Wright, Prior, Bresnan, Broad, Swann and Sidebottom boast between them? So if the top order are say 50/3 or even 100/3 how sure can we be that they will help guide us to any total much over 200?

EDIT : Swanny takes out Mortaza, we might be saved by virtue of the deshis not batting their overs.

To answer my own question - "How many ODI fifties do Wright (2), Prior (2), Bresnan (1), Broad (0), Swann (0) and Sidebottom (0) boast between them?" Answer is five, point being that they might score quickly but if required to stay at the crease they boast two scores of over 80 (Bresnan 80 & Prior 87) and next highest is just 52. Add to that Kieswetter making his ODI debut, Cook having last played an ODI in 2008 and you have a recipe for potential disaster.

and what did i say? dumb move to take the PP. he could have easily stayed there. he just went nuts because its batting PP
42.4
Broad to Tamim Iqbal, OUT, Gone! Tamim moves around again, stepping across to the off side this time and trying to paddle the ball down to fine leg. He telegraphed the movement though, and Broad speared the ball in to shatter the stumps
Tamim Iqbal b Broad 125 (120b 13x4 3x6) SR: 104.16
42.3
Broad to Tamim Iqbal, no run, makes room again, trying to hit this one out of the stadium but he doesn't time it at all, the bottom hand comes off the bat and he's lucky that didn't carry to the fielder
42.2
Broad to Tamim Iqbal, no run, slower ball from Broad, Tamim has a massive swipe at it and hits out to the fielder on the boundary at midwicket. He turns down the single though

Totally agree. It's like they're picking numbers of batsmen instead of quality of batsmanship. There is no way on earth that Matt Prior or Alastair Cook should be playing ODi cricket in place of Jonathan Trott. He's played important innings in ODi's and has a good record, yet he's just bumped out of the side, doesn't make any sense.

I just hope and pray that Flintoff and Anderson come back quickly so we can bin Wright and Bresnan. With the next WC being held in the Subcontinent we'll need 2 spinners, so an attack of Anderson, Broad, Flintoff, Swann and Rashid looks alot more promising than this dire excuse of an attack. If we were playing any other subcontinental side with this attack we'd have been looking at chasing down 300 minimum.

battin PP!! fuzzes every thing over. really needed Tamim to stay there. should still be batting right now. should have taken it when Naeem or Mash was there.

this batting PP is very confusing and more helpful for the bowlers (which is a good thing)

If Bangladesh could have England at 4/80, we could be in for an upset. I have been enjoying watching more of Bangladesh in recent months. I hope they do what Sri Lanka did, and develop into a World Cup winning side. For those of you that remember, Sri Lanka were much like Bangladesh are, until they started winning and people then took them seriously.

But SL are actually a good batting side.

I've lost patience with Sidebottom in all forms of the game now. He seems to be the sort of bloke who will blame the fielders rather than himself for putting it on a plate. Plunkett should be in this side now, if not in place of Sidebottom, then in place of Bresnan. Plunkett showed more with the ball when he got dropped, than Bresnan ever has.

Tredwell should come in for Sidebottom for the next game, and Plunkett probably should come in for Bresnan, but he won't. If any of the seamers are going to get picked it'd probably be Shahzad, the England side seem to rate him highly.

There does seem to be some Yorkshire love in going on in recent years. What with these guys and Pattinson when he was picked. Plunkett just seems to me to have genuine potential as a wicket taker, plus he can bat a bit, which is all that is needed when we have Broad and Swann in the side. Yet we seem determined to play Bresnan, who let's face it, isn't really that good in either department, and he seems to do better with the bat too, which is a bit worrying for the bowling side.
