England Arrive in India as Tour Dates are Announced

The England squad flew into Mubai today and were greeted with a warm and homely reception, the ECB had announced the tour itinerary hours before and held a press conference at the airport for the media. The players stepped off the plane and certain ones were escorted through the terminals to a seperate function room to discuss the tour, the players who faced the press were Ashley Giles and Michael Vaughan, Duncan Fletcher also joined them. The squad remained the same as it was for the Pakistan tour but players may be flown home or drafted in at a later date.

James Anderson and Paul Collingwood arrive:

As Giles, Vaughan and Fletcher entered the clicks and flashes illuminated the small, stuffy room. There were various newspaper journalists there and some fro magazines such as Spin. The floor was opened up and the questions came thick and fast, here are just a few that were asked;

The Sun: Michael, after such a dissapointing tour of Pakistan is the future much brighter for the upcomming tour of India?

MV: Well i hope so, our performances were too inconsistant and i think that was due to changing pitches and drastic temperature and humidity changes, here in India we will be using just one ground for all matches and the temerature is much more stable.

The Mirror: Duncan, how are the players going to prepare for the matches this time round differently to last time in Pakistan?

DF: The main thing that we will be doing differently is allowing the players out of the hotel and giving them some leisure time, in Pakistan, due to security circumstances, we werent allowed to do that, i thik that this is really going to help our game because it allows us to relax and concentrate on other things, too much cricket can be bad if your thinking about it all the time.

and Finally;

The Times: Ashley, you were instrumental in masterminding Englands sucess in Pakistan a few years back but you werent as effective this time round, will you be tweaking anything for the India tour?

AG: No, not at all, i think i bowled well in Pakistan, i did everything right it was just luck that i didnt have, me and Shaun [Udal] could have taken far more wickets on another day, it just so happened that chances went down or they didnt carry, im sure our luck will change, Indian picthes are much more prone to spin anyway sp we will see how it goes.

Here is the tour itinerary;

Test Series:

1st Test - Mumbai
2nd Test - Mumbai
3rd Test - Mumbai

ODI Series

1st ODI - Mumbai
2nd ODI - Mumbai
3rd ODI - Mumbai
4th ODI - Mumbai
5th ODI - Mumbai

The atmosphere here in Kolkata ahead of the highly anticipated match between these two great cricketing nations is fantastic, its a great turnout and every seat is filled. The barmy army contingent are belting out the songs in support of our boys as they warm up in the baking sun. Humidity is high here which will aid the opening pair of English bowlers, especially Hoggard who is one of Englands premier swingers. India have won the toss here and elected to bat, a good descision as batting last here is going to be a tough task for an England side who looked prone to spin in Pakistan. Harbhajan Singh should have a good time. On the same basis, batting first is going to be an equally tough task because of the new pitch and the humidity in the air this morning.

India have put out their best team today, no injuries just the ex captain Sourav Ganguly missing out, and what a strong team it is. The two left arm over bowlers in Zaheer Khan and Irfan Pathan can cause England a bit of trouble, many England batsmen will not have faces many left armers in their time. They also have such a good batting lineup; The silky prowess of Rahul Dravid, The brute force of Verinder Sehwag and.. well... what do we need to say about the great Sachin Tendulkar, and it doesen't stop their, Laxman and Yuvraj can bat and Dhoni averages around 40.

England stick with basically the team that lost the test series against Pakistan recently, Strauss and Trescothick, the left handed partnership that has so often flourished for England, Michael Vaughan in at three, not his best position but he still produces some good scores, Ian Bell, hit or miss, Kevin Peitersen, due a consistantly good series, Andrew Flintoff and Geraint Jones, held Engand together single handedly on many occasions as a partnership, Giles and Udal, need some wickets or face losing out on places, Hoggard and Harmison, the premier seamers who can, on thier day, take wicket after wicket after wicket.

No warm up games could prove to be England's downfall here, especially in the sub-continent!

Hopefully it wont come back to haunt Vaughan and the boys! Good luck mate!

India lose opener Gambhir early:

Hoggard bowls an outswinger after a series of inswingers and take almost all of the pade from the ball, because it was bowled a bit wider it invited the drive. Gambhir was very early on the shot and it looped right to Vaughan in the gully, great piece of bowling.

Sehwag: 7*
Tendulkar: 0*

The Indians Lose Another Quick Wicket And Its A Biggie:

The pint sized magician is spellbound by a cracking piece of bowling from Steve Harmison, after hammering Hoggard for an astounding boundary the minature maistro tries to hook Harmy, he gets one in the ribs for his troubles. A few balls later he tries the same, this time to a really short delivery, he was to late on the shot, a bit tentative, and the ball went high into the air, over the bowlers head and into the safe hands of Freddie Flintoff. India, 2 down.

India: 22/2

Sehwag: 11*
Dravid: 0*

Harmison: 1/12
Hoggard: 1/10
