End Of Innings:

Englands innings has come to and end here in Kolkata after the last three batsmen shared between them 23 runs. Kevin Pietersen remains unbeaten on 117*, he batted extremely well and was composed, he knew what he had to do and ser about it the right way, it was against his natural game because it took him 192 balls to reach it but that is the mark of a good player. The first of the three wickets to fall was that of Shaun Udal who made a total of 12, the highest score of the tailenders, he became Irfan Pathan?s fifth victim of the match and met his own unlucky downfall in a similar fashion to Geraint Jones. Pathan banged one in short from over the wicket and Udal tried to just glace it down to fine leg, the ball hit the bat and went between his legs and into the stumps, he went off with a smile on his face? Pathan looked determined.

Hoggard stuck around for 11 balls and made 5 runs before he was out, Pathan was also the man who picked up his wicket, he ended with figures of 6/185, probably his worst best figures? The ball that actually removed Hoggard would have got rid of most batsmen in the world, it was wasted on a tailender, it swung in late and drew the batsman into a defensive push, it then pitched and nipped away, taking a thin edge through to Mahendra Singh Dhoni behind the stumps.

Steve Harmison came out with the visions of sharing and glittering powerhouse partnership with Kevin Pietersen, this wasn?t to be though as he only reached 10 before India?s premier off spinner removed him with a bit of deception, he enticed Harmison down the pitch with some looping balls above eye level which were adeptly blocked, the next ball was a looping doosra, Harmison went for it and didn?t get to the pitch which was just asking for trouble, it ripped away and into the arms of Dhoni who took the catch to end the innings.

England have put themselves in prime position here, they might, if they are lucky and India are terrible, only be chasing 100 or so. The bowlers, as always need to get an early wicket and be right on top of their game. The spinners will need to be as effective as they were before and take just as many wickets, Giles and Udal have proved critics wrong and they now need to stay at that level, England look set to wrap up the series here?
