hey sid welcome back. how are you finding cricket 07?
Well to be honest not very pleased. I hardly feel any different from 2005.

Michael Vaughan? Isn't he that bloke that got out for a duck playing a Western Warriors 2nd XI?
Unfortunately yes. But I think his captaincy makes a big difference to the England side.

I think he was talking about the Ashes series before that mate here in Australia when Vaughan averaged in the 50's. Of course that means nothing these days with the Yorkshireman clearly over the hill as far as international cricket goes.

Ahh yes indeed I thought he said somthing else, sorry mate ;)

wow nice idea for a story, vaughny can hopefully lead us to success

Preparation for the third test
There were a lot of positives to take from the warm-up game against Western Australia. Both our openers, Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook, will now head into the third test a lot more confident, having scored runs and more importantly spent a good deal of time in the middle. Obviously the Western Australian bowling attack is no match to what they will have to face come Thursday. But it always helps having got some runs under your belt.

The bowlers were a bit disappointed, and rightfully so, even though the pitch was batsman friendly. Stephen Harmison has been under a lot of pressure and criticism from the fans and press alike, but myself, Duncan Fletcher and the rest of the team have been behind him throughout because we all know his true talent and potential.

The preparation for the third test has not very different from what we had been doing for the previous games. However Fletcher made it clear to us how important it was for us to focus on the tactics throughout the game. It was our old and familiar weakness against spin bowling that cost us the game in Adelaide, and that was because we were more concerned about forcing a result that we ignored the fact that we are a bit shaky against spin, and played a bit differently that what we would have normally. Shane Warne can brag all he wants about us not being able to play him, but if we want to, we can handle him rather comfortably.

Besides that we have been working harder and harder on the bowling. Hoggard, Anderson, Mahmood, Harmison, Plunkett, Giles and Panesar have been putting in extra hours at training. Freddie's absence puts additional responsibility on the others.

The batsmen too have been working hard. We have trying out new strategies to deal with their new ball bowlers and obviously Shane Warne. We have two approaches against Warney, one that is exclusively implemented by Kevin Pietersen which is hitting him out of the attack, and the second is the cautious approach taken by most of us, where in we only hit the bad delivery for a boundary and use the remaining balls to defend and rotate the strike.

All in all things are looking pretty good ahead of the game, and as captain I am really looking forward to getting back into the middle. We will give it all we have and I know we are more than capable of beating the Aussies.

looking forward to this story hoepfully England and Vaughan do well

hey M Vaughan nice to see u back :cheers . Also this story will rule :cheers I am going to love it as i am more an England fan than Indian fan

Damien Martyn announces shock retirement
Australia batsman Damien Martyn has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket with immediate effect.

Martyn has struggled against England in recent times

The 35-year-old told Cricket Australia of his surprise decision just before they were due to announce the squad for the third Ashes Test.

He indicated he no longer had the motivation to perform at his best. Cricket Australia boss James Sutherland confirmed Martyn would have kept his place despite scoring only 45 runs in three innings in the first two games.

Hodge earns call-up for third test
Victoria batsman Brad Hodge has been drafted into the Australian squad for third Ashes Test as a replacement for Damien Martyn who has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Brad Hodge receives a much deserved recall

The 31-year old has 5 test match caps to his name, scoring a total of 409 runs at an average of 58.42, including an highest score of 203 unbeaten against South Africa.

Despite his impressive performances, it wasn't enough to earn him a spot on the South Africa trip as the selectors returned to Damien Martyn and Michael Clarke. The decision left Hodge with another winter to ponder national selection, but his response was clear: "Don't worry, I'll be back."

However with Damien Martyn deciding to retire from the sport, Brad Hodge finally gets his chance to play for the national side.

Australia squad: Ricky Ponting (capt), Justin Langer, Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey, Michael Clarke, Brad Hodge, Adam Gilchrist (wkt), Shane Warne, Brett Lee, Stuart Clark, Glenn McGrath, Mitchell Johnson, Shaun Tait.

Pietersen ready for 'crunch' Test
Kevin Pietersen says England will take the attack to Australia in the third Ashes Test at the Waca from Thursday.

Pietersen feels Vaughan's presence will help England

England trail 2-0 in the five-match series and hard-hitting batsman Pietersen says the team have no choice but to go all out for victory in Perth.
"We'll be going out with all guns blazing knowing we've got to play positive cricket and we've got to win this Test match," said Pietersen. "We know what we've got to do this week, and Vaughanie's return has been great for the team because he is just the guy who can lift the spirits of the team up."

hodge is a very sound inclusion to the squad. looks great in that its all tieing in at the right time

3rd Test begins...

The Third Test Begins....

Perth is the venue for this third Ashes test match between Australia and England. The home side can seal the series with a win here, which would see the visitors lose the Ashes urn they won only last year.

Perth has hosted a total of 10 games between the old rivals, with England winning one and Australia winning six games. Three matches have been drawn.

In the last Ashes series down under, Australia registered an emphatic victory over England, winning by an innings and 48 runs.

Well the W.A.C.A ground has established a reputation for being a fast and hard track, and this time around also it is no different. Expect a lot of bounce today from the likes of Lee and Harmison especially. The spinners might be important on the final day, if the game does last till then.

England have won the toss and returning captain Michael Vaughan has decided to bat first.

Michael Vaughan said:
It is a hard surface with a lot of bounce, but I have a feeling that batting last on the wicket is going to very tricky and if we get a good first innings score then we should be in a good position to win the game.

Ricky Ponting said:
I dont think I would have wanted to bat first anyways because the likes of Harmison and Anderson are capable of getting a lot of bounce on this pitch especially, and we too have our bowlers who can trouble their batsmen the same way. So even though we've lost the toss, we are happy with England's decision because we would have fielded first anyways.

The hosts have made just one change with Brad Hodge coming in for Damien Martyn who retired from all forms of cricket shortly after the second test.

England have made two changes to their side. Andrew Flintoff is out with a shoulder injury and has been replaced by Michael Vaughan, while Ashley Giles loses out to fellow left-arm spinner Monty Panesar.

The umpires for this game are Steve Bucknor and Billy Bowden.

Ahh mate I cant wait till the action begins this should be good, without a doubt there must be pressure on England no matter how positive they think they are ;)

Hope Vaughan can get a biggy.

The build-up was very nice. Hopefully Australia can get a couple early here.

wow can't wait for the game to begin big up michael vaughan on return

theres so much pressure on harmison now. no flintoff is going to make it very tough for the england bowlers. im sure brad hodge will do a good job batting at 6. he probably wouldnt have been a bad option at 4 either, plus it keeps the left right thing going all the way down to warne. (ie hodge/hussey/clarke/gilchrist/warne)

Batting first at Perth is a bit risky but England bat well as their batsmen are in good form.
