Both the teams are looking strong.... i wud say 50-50 in my opinion! Its going to be interesting job for MVaughan now after a long time!

Day 1 Lunch Update.....

England lose Strauss early
England suffered a very early blow when Brett Lee dismissed opening batsman Andrew Strauss for four. The aggressive field settings set by Ricky Ponting gave an instant return when a rising delivery from Lee startled Strauss who looped it straight to Warne at forward short leg for a comfortable catch.

The captain was the next man in for England. Can you imagine the pressure?

Cook and Vaughan put up an impressive partnership
The hard and bouncy Perth track and Vaughan's decision to bat first was beginning to haunt the visitors when Strauss was dismissed early by Lee. However from there on Alastair Cook and the captain Michael Vaughan himself made the bounce and pace of the wicket work to their advantage. A lot of runs were being scored off boundaries as both batsmen just found the gaps and made use of the pace of the wicket to score the boundaries. Australia's attacking field settings were also beginning to backfire on them.

Brett Lee and Glen McGrath were both unable to break this partnership and Ponting was forced to bring on Shane Warne and Stuart Clarke into the attack.

Poor shot costs Cook his own wicket
Finally it was Stuart Clark who got the breakthrough before lunch and in doing so got Australia right back into the game. However it was more a case of a bad shot by England rather than good bowling by him. Alastair Cook, just two runs short of a half century, decided to go for maximum and hit the ball high up in the air and straight down the throat of Brad Hodge.

Getting a wicket so close to the lunch break was great for the Aussies and a big blow for England. Ian Bell would now have to face a few nervous moments before the lunch break.

England enjoy bright start despite losing two wickets
Inspite of losing two wickets at either side of the session, England will be pleased with their performance so far. They have maintained a good run rate as well. The partnership between Cook and Vaughan was the highlight of the session and the home side will be releaved to have dismissed atleast one of them.

Michael Vaughan has done well on his comeback game and is currently 41 not out.

England in good popsition but anythig can happen!

* what a comeback for Vaughan!
* Poor Lee..Inspite of getting a early wicket, went for runs.

Great presentation! Also, the scorecard of England has been posted twice?

good job english team nice presentation mate

England on top here. Australia get a couple of wickets then they are right back in this.

England collapse in second session

Day 1 Tea Update...

Vaughan and Bell build momentum
England captain Michael Vaughan has made a good comeback to international cricket and along with Warwickshire's Ian Bell have kept the runs coming for the visitors, much to the frustation of the home side.

Vaughan, Pietersen fall to Warne
England lost two wickets in quick succession as Shane Warne opened his account in the game.

The first to fall was the England captain Michael Vaughan who had played so well until then.

pic3rm9.jpg

And Warne's next victim was Kevin Pietersen. The South African born batsman hit Warne for a four off the first delivery but the Aussie legend had the last laugh when he had him caught at silly point by Michael Clarke.

Lee dismisses Collingwood, as Bell gets to his 50
Brett Lee has made a good comback in his second spell getting the wicket of Paul Collingwood. The Durham allrounder tried to cover drive a delivery that was too close to his body, and only managed to play the ball onto his own stumps.

Despite wickets falling at the other end, Ian Bell has held his own and has got to his half century.

Clarke picks up surprise wicket
Part-time bowler Michael Clarke has got himself the wicket of England wicketkeeper Geraint Jones, leg before wicket.

pic7qz1.jpg

Stuart Clark gets the dangerman
Stuart Clark has got the important wicket of Ian Bell for 66. A peach of a delivery from Clark that rattled Bell's off and middle stump.

pic8es4.jpg

Michael Clarke cleans up the tail
Michael Clarke has bagged a total of four wickets in this innings after dismissing the last three English batsmen - Harmison, Hoggard and Anderson.

pic9oj0.jpg

England bundled out for just 245, with Ian Bell top scoring with 66.

Michael Clarke leads the bowling charts with figures of 4-19.

Also the umpires have decided to take the tea break now itself.

So at Tea on Day 1
England 245 all out from 56.4 Overs

Its a low score by England! Unlucky KP :( Suprised to see MClarke in action though!

Nice presentation as always! :)

Panesar strikes after Langer carnage

Day 1 Stumps Update...

Justin Langer gets Aussies off to a flying start
The veteran batsman took the attack to the England bowlers, scoring some cracking boundaries during the time and all over the ground. Steve Harmison, Matthew Hoggard and Monty Panesar all took some beating.

pic1ei4.jpg

His 50 came off just 47 deliveries.

pic2df1.jpg

Monty sends both openers back
England finally got the breakthrough they so desperately needed. And it was Monty Panesar who got the wicket of the dangerman, Justin Langer, who by the looks of it was trying to send out a message to the selectors that he can play in one day internationals as well.

Langer went after a looping slower delivery from Monty but mishit the ball high in the air and straight down Jimmy Anderson's throat.

pic3ey2.jpg

Monty then also got rid of Langer's opening partner, Matthew Hayden by cleaning up his stumps.

pic4sm8.jpg

Aussies hold slight advantage
The home side have a slight edge at the end of day one despite losing both their openers. Ricky Ponting is already looking good at 28 not out and Michael Hussey too is more than capable of getting a good score.

pic5yn0.jpg

For England only Monty Panesar has looked threatening. James Anderson has so far kept it tight with a good line and length.

So at Stumps on Day 1
Australia 136-2 from 31 Overs
England 245 all out from 56.4 Overs

Australia look on top but those late wickets have helped alot, hopefully England can pick up a few quick wickets in the morning.

Good update, it looks like the Aussies will get a big lead unless the monster can spin his magic!lol

Awesome start by Australia here. This is almost panning out like the real test. Instead of Australia getting bowled out for 244 England get bowled out for 245. Bizzare that.

not a great 1st innings from england:(
but good to see vaughn in some form in his comeback match.
keep up the great work mate
