End Of Day 1 Session 3

England continued the fightback. New Zelands bowlers appeared to grow weary and Vaughan was taking good advantage untill he got a little over confident, trying an on drive to a leg cutter, it cost him his wicket. But not before he dragged england back into the game with to vital partnerships, first with strauss and then with thorpe. As the new ball approached England looked to increase the scoring rate and did so. However Collingwood fell 2 overs before the new ball was due, he looked out of sorts after being out of the test team for some time and it showed. A lazy front foot drive resulted in an outside edge which was swallowed up at slip. Thorpe and Flintoff blocke out the remaining overs and saw off some of the new ball. No doubt the first 10-15 overs tomorrow will be crucial. If they can see off the new ball, then Flintoff can look to accelerate. With only Jones and Giles left to come as recognised batters its vital that England at least go for a total round the 300/350 mark. New Zeland can be fairly pleased with their performance today. Im sure if you had offerd them 250ish for 5 at the end of day one they would have taken it. Their top bowlers have been Bond, who was vastly under-used, and Styris. Vettori has yet to bowl, much to the delight of england.

England's batting looks very strong, playing Collingwood in place of a third bowler (Jones or Anderson). But England will have just 4 regular bowlers, so you might have a problem while bowling.

I think it would be better if England play Bell or Collingwood in place of Butcher/Key. This will give Vaughan an extra bowling option, and at the same time the batting is not weakened.

Yea possibly. In this instance im glad i have the extra batter as i messed up my innings early on. But if i cant bowl them out then ill have to change but i have a few options with bowling.
1. Hoggard (Med-Fast)
2. Harmison (Fast)
3. Flintoff (Med-Fast)
4. Giles (Slow Left Arm)
5. Collingwood (Medium)
6. Butcher (Medium)
7. Trescothick (Medium)
8. Vaughan (Off Spin)

Contraception was handed out freely to crowd members during the first day.

Day 2 Session 1

England survived the first 45 minutes of the first session unscathed before New Zeland made the breakthrough. Flintoff was cleaned up by Mcmillan, playing down the wrong line. This promted a collapse. Thorpe drove to cover, Giles nicked one to slip. Giles was promoted above Jones in order to help see off some of the new ball. Jones came into bat, and was shortly joined by Hoggard who couldnt stick around, also edgeing to the cordon. With just Jones and Harmison left both players opend their arms, with varying degrees of success. Jones was in top form, hammering 49 runs off 50 balls which included seven fours and two sixes. Harmison was cleaned up by Mcmillan, leaving Jones stranded on 49 at the other end. 357/all out.

Nice innings by Thorpey - pretty quick scoring rate for him as well. Mind you 100 less runs in that amount of balls is quick for him these days :) Gotta respect the old-timer though!

Day 2 Session 2

Good performance from England front line bowlers saw them restrict New Zeland tightly in the first hours play. Richardson who didnt look at all comfortable during his 19 ball spell at the crease. Edging an inswinger yorker through to Jones. Vincent at the other end was playing defensively, but steady. Flemming arrived at the crease after the opening bowlers tight work. And latched onto a loose delivery from Flintoff, cutting it for four. Collingwood, sharing the fourth bowler responsibilites with Ashley Giles, was proving expensive but was creating chances which included a couple of inside edge's and a nick that went just over 1st slips head. Flintoff was rewarded for fast accurate bowling with the wicket of vincent. He was looking to cut a 90 mph ball thru gully but only succeded in getting a faint ouside edge. Flemming took to Collingwood, racking up a few cuts. But he fell, caught at cover off a poorly timed cover drive. So at tea New Zeland are 66/2 after 28 overs. Englands session and then some.
