Ganga goes after solid partnership on third morning
Daren Ganga and Brian Lara made a 33 run 2nd wicket stand, but Ganga tamely gave his wicket away. After Lara had hit a succession of simmering boundaries, Harmison bowled Ganga a bouncer. Ganga pulled straight to Hoggard at square leg, making 15 from 42 balls, including 2 fours. It was Harmison's second wicket and at the fall of it, the West Indies were 48/2, with Shivnarine Chanderpaul joining captain Brian Lara at the crease.

I am still hoping on Lara to play some crucial role now Lets see what happens... Windies shd look to cross follow on margin first provided they dont throw away their wickets
Brian Lara reached his 1st 50 of the tour at Old Trafford as he helped the West Indies to a decent start, after the loss of Daren Ganga and Chris Gayle. It came from 68 balls and included 10 glorious fours. As soon as Lara reached his 50, there were suspicsions that a Mr Suren may have been in contact with the England bowlers.
Lunch is called as partnership grows
The umpires called lunch on the third day at Old Trafford, with the West Indies on 129/2 and an unbeaten third wicket partnership of 81 between Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul growing. Lara and Chanderpaul reach the hundred partnership
Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul continued to respond well to England's massive total as they reached the hundred partnership. Brian Lara had attacked Monty Panesar, by hitting him for a straight six and getting even closer to another Test hundred. Chanderpaul rocked back and cut the same bowler for four square of the wicket. England looked on frustrated, with no real penetration coming from Monty Panesar and the West Indies easily managing to bat against England's pace attack.
Plays and Misses frustrate England
As Brian Lara got into the 90's, he started playing nervous shots. Both him and Shivnarine Chanderpaul played shots that were never on and completed missed the shot. This left Steve Harmison and Monty Panesar very frustrated, and left Michael Vaughan praying for some luck with the West Indies going along very nicely on 165/2.
Lara reaches brilliant century
Brian Lara reached a wonderful Test century on the afternoon session of Day 3 at Old Trafford. It came off just 143 balls and included 19 sparkling fours and a massive six. The whole of Old Trafford stood up to congratulate Lara, who had entertained them massively. There was a sense of relief on his face, to get some runs after his failures at Trent Bridge and Lords. The West Indies were carrying on their good work with Shivnarine Chanderpaul nearing 50 and their overall score on 190/2.
Collingwood does the trick for England!
With England's strike bowlers having no effect on the settled West Indies 3rd wicket partnership, Michael Vaughan turned to part timer Paul Collingwood to bowl a couple of overs. In his second, he got a ball on a good length to swing back just enough to hit Shivnarine Chanderpaul's off stump. It was a massive breakthrough for England and one they desperately needed. The next man at the crease was Ramnaresh Sarwan with the West Indies on 191/3. The West Indies third wicket partnership between Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul totalled at 143 runs.
Broad takes vital Lara wicket
In his 2nd spell of the innings, Stuart Broad took the crucial wicket of Brian Lara, as Lara departed for a brilliant 111. The innings came off 156 balls, with 21 fours and 1 six. Broad bowled a short ball which Lara pulled, however, he couldn't time it and hit it to square leg where Monty Panesar took a good catch. Dwayne Bravo was the new man in with the West Indies on 202/4.
Umpires call Lunch
After the wicket of Brian Lara, the West Indies managed to get through to Tea unscathed as Ramnaresh Sarwan and Dwayne Bravo weathered the storm from the England pace bowlers.
