Story England's Internationals - England v WI - England win series 2-0

West Indies wrap up innings

The West Indies bowled out England for 274, with Jerome Taylor getting the 10th wicket of the innings, that of no.11 Jimmy Anderson who left the crease for 5. This meant Monty Panesar was unbeaten on 2. Anderson was dismissed as he tried to hit a Taylor delivery off his legs but only hit it to Chris Gayle who took an instinct catch at short leg. England will be disappointed that despite a lot of starts from the middle and late order, none went past 40. However, 274 is a respectable target on a green pitch in late May at Lords. The end of innings left the West Indies with a small period to bat before tea.

West Indies lose Ganga before tea

Just as tea was approaching and the Windies were looking to get through to tea for the loss of no wickets. However as Darren Ganga and Chris Gayle set off for a fatal run, the West Indies were about to lose their first wicket. Stuart Broad quickly took the bails off the stumps, and Ganga departed the crease for 0 off 24 balls. This brought the great man Brian Lara to the crease.

Umpires call Tea

Just as England were beaming with confidence after the arly wicket of Ganga, the umpires called tea at lunch. The session was packed with exciting strokeplay from the England middle and lower order and then a big wicket for the English. The West Indies have two left-handers at the crease in Chris Gayle and Brian Lara. They left the crease at tea with the score on 8/1 and Steve Harmison has bowled 4 overs, while Stuart Broad has bowled 3 overs.

England 274

West Indies 8/1

Gayle 7 (18)
Lara 0 (0)

Note: There has been a problem with Broad's face, his hair appears to be black, I'll try and get it sorted out.

Lara run out after good partnership

After Darren Ganga's early dismissal, Gayle and Lara built slowly but surely. Lara hit some excellent crisp boundaries, and soon the 50 partnership had been brought up. Anderson and Flintoff had replaced Harmison and Broad, Anderson had been expensive while Flintoff had been relatively economical. With the score on 58/1, Lara set off for a suicidal run, but was easily run out, he left the crease disappointed for 24, having made a promising start, hitting 3 fours. The wicket brought Shivnarine Chanderpaul to the crease.

Gayle goes after attacking

Michael's Vaughan move to bring Monty Panesar on sparked Chris Gayle's attacking flair which he had lacked in his slow innings. Off Panesar's second ball of the over, Gayle dispatched the delivery for six over square leg, then 2 balls later he square drove Panesar for 4. The next ball Panesar would have his revenge. He bowled a delivery which looped in the air, Gayle danced down the pitch and attempted to hit Panesar down the ground. However he only managed to hit it straight to Stephen Harmison who took the catch successfully at mid-on. The wicket left the West Indies on 72/3 and brought Ramnaresh Sarwan to the crease.

Umpires call stumps at end of day 1

Chanderpaul and Sarwan kept their wickets intact in the closing overs of day 1 at Lords, while Panesar and Pietersen bowled from the Pavilion end and the Nursery end respectively. Then, umpire Doctrove, took the decision to call stumps citing bad light, the West Indian batsmen had no complaints and day 1 was over.

End of Day 1

England 274

West Indies 95/3

Chanderpaul 16 (34)
Sarwan 3 (27)

England need a couple of quick wickets to take control. :) :) :) keep it up Phil

Spent a bit of time reading it from beginning. Great story so far and good layout aswell as lots of screenshots. Good luck in the rest of your match against West Indies

Slow 50 partnership rebuilds innings

Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored slowly in the first hour o the morning on Day 2 at Lords. Monty Panesar and Steve Harmison initially bowled for England, however Broad later replaced Panesar in the attack. Sarwan and Chanderpaul didn't score quickly at all, especially right-handed Sarwan who contributed only 18 off 73 balls to the unbeaten 51 partnership. The 50 partnership was very much appreciated in the West Indian dressing room and balcony.

Stone-dead LBW Appeal turned down

Just as England were looking for more wickets, they should have got one. Harmison bowled a delivery to Chanderpaul on a good/full length. The ball, despite more than 50 overs being bowled, swung back in and wrapped Chanderpaul on the pads. All the England team appealed rapturously, however the umpire turned down the appeal and walked away. Steve Harmison was certainly not happy!

England finally get their 4th wicket

Steve Harmison took the wicket to get the West Indies 4 wickets down, getting the crucial wicket of Ramnaresh Sarwan. He bowled a delivery just short of a length and Sarwan tried to play a back-foot cover drive, but could only manage to miss time it to Andrew Flintoff who was waiting at short cover. Sarwan left the crease for 18 from 74 balls, hitting just one four. The wicket left the West Indies at 128/4 and brought keeper Denesh Ramdin to the crease.

England 274
West Indies 128/4 (51 Overs)

Chanderpaul 30 (81)
Sarwan 0 (2)
