Its the end of the 2nd session of day four at the Adelaide Oval and Australia have set a perfect example to show that why they are known as the champion side as England struggle with the bat in their second innings. It seemed that Australia were under pressure after England had a lead of 87 runs in the first innings and with just five sessions left in this test match England and looking to set a big target for Australia. But Australia where not going to give up so easily as they were just looking for wickets in this innings and it showed when England batted after the lunch session. England had a good start in this innings with both openers Alistair Cook and Andrew Strauss getting a good solid opening partnership and extending their lead close to 150 runs. But things changed quickly after that as England lost 5 quick wickets as their top order collapsed completely and now for the first time in this test match Australia have the upper hand in this match and if things continue the same way then Australia will be the most likely team to win this match. This shows that just one good session can get your team back in the match.
Warne nearly got the breakthrough
After the partnership was growing nicely, Ponting quickly made a bowling change and introduced Shane Warne very early in the attack. Within no time Shane Warne was in the action straight-away as they all went up for a caught behind appeal after Andrew Strauss nicked one to Gilchrist but only for the umpire to rule the decision in favour of the batsman. In real time it looked that Strauss got some bat on it but snickometer confirmed that there was no connection between the bat and the ball.
Strauss survives
Top order struggled against the pace attack
Just when this opening pair were nearing their 50 run partnership, Glenn McGrath bowled the beauty to get rid of the southpaw Andrew Strauss. Glenn McGrath, who was probing Andrew Strauss on and around his off stump and also pitching the ball in the good length area consistently, suddenly surprised Strauss by bowling a perfect yorker. Strauss tried to get that away but it was too late as the ball went through the gate as a result of which England lost their 1st wicket at the score of 42 with an overall lead of 129 runs.
Strauss departs
Micheal Vaughan, the England skipper walked out to the middle after the fall of the first wicket. Vaughan, who looked in brilliant touch after he scored his maiden test double century in the first innings, would have been looking to score quickly and take the game away from Australia. But Brett Lee was quick enough to get rid of the England captain as he edged one to M.Hussey who was standing in the gully region. Vaughan's stay at the wicket was a short one as he didn't even manage to reach double figures after his masterful double century in the first innings. Vaughan was dismissed for just 2 runs and now Australia will apply more pressure on England after two quick wickets.
Lee gets the big wicket of Vaughan
Ian Bell was the next batsman for England. Bell is not in a good touch in this series as he struggled against the Australian bowlers in each and every innings of this series. This is the ideal time for Ian Bell to get a partnership going at this stage and get a respectable total for England. Meanwhile Glenn McGrath got rid of the other opening batsman Alistair Cook. As usual McGrath was bowling an offstump line and was seaming the ball into the left-hander .Cook decided to go for a cover drive but he only managed to get an inside edge onto the stumps resulting in the loss of the 3rd England wicket.
Cook's resistance comes to an end
There was a huge round of applause after Kevin Pietersen walked out to the middle. Pietersen who has looked pretty confident with the bat in this Ashes series went after the bowling of Warne in the first innings. Crowd loved his aggressive batting and will be hoping that he repeats the same as England are in trouble at the moment with the score on 76/3.
Pietersen takes guard
Warne spins England into deep trouble
Just as one expected, Ricky Ponting threw the ball to Shane Warne as they knew that Pietersen will look to attack him from the start and it may result in another wicket. Warne was straight-away in the action as he bowled Ian Bell with a terrific ball which pitched far outside the leg stump and went through the defense of Bell and shattered his stumps. Its always a wonderful site for any spinner to bowl any batsman through his defense and now Shane Warne is just few wickets away from his 700 wickets. Bell continued his poor run with the bat as he departs scoring just 17 runs and England are in deep deep trouble with the score on 76/4.
Bell continues his poor run with the bat
With just few minutes away from the Tea break, Collingwood comes out to the middle with England under tremendous pressure as they lost 4 wickets in a short span of time. But the collapse continued for England as Collingwood was caught behind off the bowling of Shane Warne while he was facing his 2nd delivery. Collingwood goes without scoring any run and now England are in deep trouble as the might even struggle to save this match. Warne is getting very difficult to bat against as he is extracting lot of turn and bounce from this wicket
Collingwood goes for a duck
Animated Hawkeye : Warne's turn
Andrew Flintoff, who is having a miserable time with the bat, joins Kevin Pietersen who has only faced couple of balls and is yet to get off the mark. Australia have made a solid comeback in this match and they required just 1 session to swing the match in their favour. Warne is looking dangerous with his spin and still Ponting has bowled with just 3 bowlers so it will be very difficult for England reach 150. England need something special to save this match.
Batting Stats at Adelaide Average 3rd innings total : 163 Average 4th innings total : 203
England have to score more that 175 atleast in this innings if they want to save this match because winning is way too far now or else they will see themselves going 2-0 down in this Ashes test series.
just a superb update gamer....Aussies coming back very strong...Warnie has bowled superb.....KP and Flintoff to play as they did in the 2005 Ashes....England need a partnership now....
We needed to b bowled out to win if you see my logic, Freds due some runs and KPs class. Broad wil probably smash a quick 100. btw wheres Broad on the card?
