Pieterson's smashing innings got England in a commanding position

K.Pieterson was in full flow and smashed all the bowlers to all parts of the ground.Paul Collingwood gave him full support and helped England get the score close to 160.This is what happened in the last 5 overs of the England innings.

Murali after giving just four runs in his previous over was full off confidence and bowled his last over to Pieterson.England had to play the big shots if they wanted to get a big score from here.Pieterson went for the big slog sweep and mistimed it completely .D.Fernando made good ground and was in good position to take the catch but lost his concentration on the last moment and dropped a simple catch .Muralitharan was frustrated as Fernando missed the golden opportunity .Jayawardena was also dissappointed with the fielder's effort.

Murali bowled a flighted delivery to Collingwood but Collingwood picked that early gave himself room and smashed a huge six over the covers .Muralitharan completed his bowling speel with figures of 4 overs 40/1.
Dartfish Technology to show Collingwood's Six:

This made Jayawardena to change his field .He got fielders on the boundary on both off and leg side and got all the infielders on the edge of the circle.
Collingwood is a good runner between the wickets .He then fully utilized this field changes as he just pushed the ball and then sneaked in few singles .He also converted 1's into 2's and this lead to misfielding and overthrows.

Pieterson then took up the initiative after that dropped catch and went for the big shots in the slog overs.Collingwood supported him by giving him the strike. F.Maahroof bowled a bad line overpitched just outside the offstump .This gave Pieterson to get enough room and also the ball was in the right position to be hit .Pieterson smashed a six and four over midwicket off 2 balls in Mahroof's over.
S.Jayasurya was brought in the attack but he bowled two wides first up and the bowled a fulltoss to Pieterson and was asking to be hit.Pieterson got a huge six off the fullltoss again over the midwicket and the got a bowndary through the covers.The scored then moved on to 144/4 with one over left .
Pieterson's shots in the slog overs:

L.Malinga was given the ball to bowl the last over of the ENgland innings.Pieterson was on strike and was ecpecting a short delivery .Malinga bowled a shot delivery and Pieterson pulled it away for 4.England fans were cheering as they got 150 on the board.With only two balls remaining Pieterson was going to hit big shots for sure . Malinga bowled outside the offstump Pieterson went for it ,edged it and it went for 4 .Fortunate boundary for England.Last ball was hit straight down the ground for another four by Pieterson .
Pieterson scored three boundaries in the last over of the England innings(Dartfish used):

England innings came to a close as they scored 158/4 in 20 overs.
M.Trescothick got a half century and Pieterson finished the innings with his big hits on all parts of the ground. Pieterson scored 48 off 33 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.Collingwood scored 15 runs off 15 balls with 1 four and 1 six.
England's Batting Scorecard:

SriLankan bowling was thrashed to all parts of the ground .Muralitharan was the most expensive as he went for 40 runs off his 4 overs .D.Fernando was the most economical bowler as he gave away just 17 runs in his 4 overs.

Third Man's Chat

David Gower: Hello and welcome back all our viewers to The Third Man's Chat .England were in trouble early one but some good hitting in the end have put them in commanding position in the match .With me in the studio are David Lloyd, Ian Botham, Michael Holding, Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton.
Well Ian what do think how England played and will SriLanka get to the total ?

Ian Botham: Well it will be a really tough task for SriLankans to win this match. S.Jayasurya and Sangakara will have to play a major role in this match if they want to win the match .England don't have a strong bowling line up so they must keep the ball in the right position also A.Strauss should keep changing his bowlers time to time.
Excellent batting by Pieterson in the end .He never lets his team down and Paul Collingwood had the fielders under pressure with his quick running.

N.Hussain: Terrfic batting by England .Trescothick gave the start which England wanted .He was in some sort of trouble when the ball was swinging in the initial overs but then came back strongly and he played Murali well and even picked up the doosra on all occasions.If we take a look at Trescothick's Wagon Wheel we can see that he has scored his runs on both the offside and the onside and was strong through the cover region.He plays the slog sweep well and got runs behing square on the leg side .He played the fast bowlers straight down the ground and got runs in all parts of the ground.

Trescothick's Wagon Wheel:

If we see the spider the we can see that all his shots were controlled and were down the ground .He only played one inside out shot to Murali which was in the air and in the gap and went for 4. Look at the two sixes there to Murali, he timed that to perfection .Overall great bating by Trescothick.

Michael Holding: Ya great batting by Trescothick but in the end it was K.Pieterson who stealed the show and turn the match in favour of England.When Trescothick was hitting Murali at that time Pieterson just took singles and gave the strike to Trescothick and after Trescothick's wicket Pieterson just went after the SriLankan bowling and snamshed them in the last 5 overs.If we see his Wagon Wheel we can see that his played his shots mostly on the leg side .He got 2 boundaries and 2 sixes on the leg side and 2 fous on the offside.
Pieterson: 48*(33) 4 4's and 2 6's.
K.Pieterson's Wagon Wheel :

Now take a look at the spider,look that he got singles early in the innings and then went got the big shots especially those two sixes to Jayasurya and Mahroof. and then those two boundaries over the infield in the legside.Good aggressive batting by Pieterson 48 not out off just 33 balls.

M Atherton: Paul Collingwood also played a big role in this England innings .He supported Pieterson till the end and was very quick between the wickets .He was just stealing the singles and was also copverting the one's into two's and was giving Pieterson the strike all time.Lets see his Wagon Wheel 15 runs off 15 balls with 11 runs on the offside and just 4 on the offside but those runs were only possible because of his quickness between the wickets.
He also got a huge inside out six to Murali over the over region.Those were all the important 15 runs for England.
Collingwood's Wagon Wheel:

David Llyod: Terrific batting by England .I loved the way Trescothick played Muralitharan.Murali was getting the line right but was getting his length all wrong .He should have got the length bit fuller to Trescothick so that it would not be possible to play the slog sweeps.Thats why he went for runs. See Murali's Pitchmap he should have got the ball in this region to Trescothick and he bowled well to Pieterson.

D.Fernando bowled well he got his line and length perfect and gave away just 17 runs in his 4 overs with just 1 boundary.Now ENgland bowlers should bowl well with their line and lenght and England are likely to win this match.

I really like the presentation,my favorite screen was the dart fish where that ball went for six.The match seems slighly in favour of England but things may easily change.
