England's tour of India - 2021

Gosh our fielding is next level!

Accompanied by the standard commentator's "oh he normally is a good/safe pair of hands" without even looking at/realising the player who actually made the error.

The openers should be set in stone IMO. Rahul's the top Indian run-scorer in the IPL over the last three seasons while Rohit's the vice-captain and has a good international record to balance out the underwhelming recent IPL history. Dhawan's mainly in the conversation because he has been key for Delhi since his move but he will just be another steady player in an already saturated lineup.

Number four is interesting. Pant plays there for Delhi and has done a tremendous job in three seasons (including having arguably the greatest season by a batsman in 2018) while SKY and Shreyas both are fine players themselves. Ben Jones of CricViz said it best that while Shreyas' knock was extremely good (scored most of his runs versus pacers against whom he has a short ball problem), he was still doing his best number three impression down at five thanks to a batting collapse. The Indian side cannot pick accumulators (even aggressive ones like Shreyas) and expect them to provide dynamic T20 batting everytime against their norm.

This is where SKY could on paper fill a gap. He has middle order experience in domestic cricket having moved himself down the order and added another gear of batting to his game in the middle and death overs during the last IPL. Remains to be seen if he can do a similar job on the international stage though.
Yeah, it'd be Rahul for me. But they're clearly looking at others - whether it's just to decide who gets a slot as a back up or use it as a chance to see how Kishan fares at the top level. England have spent three years doing this. Other than, why have they left it so late to do this, I don't get the hysterical reactions of leaving Rohit out for a game or two.

It really depends how India want to play. They've got Kohli at 3 so do you need anyone else who isn't a big hitter? I guess Pant and Pandya are somewhat one dimensional. So a flexible player like Yadav would be useful. I always like the looked of him even when he used to come in down the order for KKR (I think).

I think what England have is a top six where all of them have many gears - modern T20 batsman. They can rotate and feed the strike to a player at the other end or go from ball one. That's why I think there's no room for Root. Other than Jason Roy, they've got five others who can do what Root does. Although watching them scratch around today what I wouldn't give to see Root nudging and nurdling.

It helps when the batting is so deep you can have a number 11 in Adil Rashid; who has more first class centuries than both our openers.

England's batsmen still not adjusting to the wide lines

If you keep hitting it off the toe end of the bat, why not move more across?

This is why Buttler shouldn't open the batting. Batting in the middle to lower middle order is a far tougher art in LOI. Bairstow can easily bat at the top and in the power play won't be any less destructive than Buttler. But at the tail end, very few batsmen in the world are as destructive as Buttler.

When you have Stokes and Morgan in the middle to lower order opening with the Buttler is the best possible option.

Has been opening since 2016 be it franchise or International cricket.

India have done well, be interesting how the pitch fares in the second innings.

You're so wrong but that's fine.

Not sure whether Who's right or wrong.

Buttler is best Utilized as a top order player in T20s and it worked for him and whatever team he has played.

RR tried Buttler in the middle order/ finisher last year.

They instead Opened with Stokes.

Buttler did scored 328 runs but was nowhere near his destructive best for RR compared to what he did when opened for them in 2018 scoring 595 runs.

Also opened for Sydney Thunder in 2017 and 18 season scoring 600 plus in couple of seasons.
