That's the massive difference between England. You can have an opinion that Buttler shouldn't open or Hales should be in the side. But we know the England XI (12 depending on the pitch if Moeen gets a go) and it's unlikely to change for any reason other than injury.

Considering Chahal's misery this series, could be a lifeline for Kuldeep to return back into the side for the WC, if he has a decent to good IPL. Obviously cant play both together as it thins down the batting (Sundar has to play always until he has a horrible run)

To me, there is not much fixing that can be done now. Live with whatever side you pick for the WC, and hope luck plays on your side. India have really tied themselves down into various knots here, with the way they've gone about selection in T20.

This is very much what India was in late 2000s & early 2010s. They had this line-up for ages

It always ended up as a hit out between Sreesanth & Nehra for the third pacer in seaming conditions and Ashwin had to sit out because of lack of experience as compared to Bhajji. Sachin was mostly rested in this period to manage his workload so Gambhir opened with Viru while Kohli batted at 3. The left out spot was taken by Yusuf Pathan

10 out of 11 players of that line-up were capable bowling options. Believe me if we had another capable wicket-keeper batsman in the line-up, Dhoni would've bowled in so many of those matches.

Edit: A thing I used to get irritated about this line-up was that Dhoni constantly played both Ashwin and Jadeja in unhelpful conditions instead of another seamer. Although India lacked quality but we did have wicket taking options. Bowlers like Sudeep Tyagi, Pankaj Singh, Varun Aaron and Jaydev Unadkat woud've easily made it to that Indian side. I can understand Ashwin being backed in the longer format but he was never a bowler for ODI format.

I agree. The worst bowling option in this XI is not dhoni but gambhir

Current team plays with 3 WKB that leaves 9 players for bowling options out of which we have only 5 bowlers. We dont even have Bumrah here and Pandya has just recovered from injury and allowing him to bowl all 4 overs is risky. On other side thakur hasn't improved, keeps giving runs and his fielding is soo bad.
You can't expect to defend 140-150 runs against lethal team like England. What if One/Two of our bowlers gives too many runs. Theres no backup.
At least back then we had batsmen like Raina, Sehwag, Sachin et cetra who could bowl. (they had bowling option, now we don't)
Though we have Kohli and Rohit but that just raise question on our bowling department if they comes up to bowl.
