England's tour of India - 2021

@Bevab I agree with you on the tosses bit. But the advantage here was way too much. It was a bit like the India tour of SA where batting last was a curse.

Our holy captain has basically said that Kuldeep will not play till Ashwin plays. His fault? Because he brings the ball back into the right hander!!! :lol

Btw VK has also said that every player of India is playing well somewhere or the other. I absolutely agree with him. There has been contribution from each of our player in the team in last few matches. What makes the case bad is the team selection.

I am actually not too disappointed with this result. I mean, 3 times in a row you are pushed to the wall like that and its hard to keep bouncing back. The law of averages had to catch up. Also for us, we had the advantage of having been acclimatized to Aussie conditions long enough, when SCG and Gabba happened. But for this test match, we came straight from a Down Under tour, took a break to recharge (rightly so, and more so in these pandemic times when bubble life is torture) and then came in straight into this test without playing any limited overs games to reignite our home conditions memory. Despite being back home, it takes time to readjust. And losing the toss and playing on a pitch that showed split personality trait :D for the first two days, just amplified our problems.

Well, not surprising.... I kinda imagine how he must have worded that, and I can only chuckle

Hasn't Kohli now lost 4 of the last 4 he's been captain in? Our country is an ICC tournaments driven country. The potential of this test team has been wasted for the last 3-4 years. I think it will take the failure of winning an ICC tournament for the camel's back to break. If we win either of the next 2 in the next two years, status quo for another 4 years.

I don't think AB will not be a part of RCB and there's not a hope in hell of them winning that stuff.

Talk about going down to the wire

Also, yeah - anyone who's saying that Kohli is the wrong man to captain this Test side is spot on. Rahane and Rohit are both stellar captains, and yet it's Kohli in charge.

Most bogus formula of qualification. India are the best test team in the world at the moment and I would say NZ and ENG are both very very close behind.

What I am most impressed with England about is their preparation for this tour. Not just by mauling Lanka first but also the prep in England. What I am most puzzled by is the departure of Jos Buttler. That is beyond my understanding!

Honestly I am still perplexed that people are talking so much about WTC final qualification. The system needs a ton of fine tuning and it doesn't even matter in these pandemic times as to who plays the final and who wins that title!

I would care less if India does not qualify! Although I feel its in the financial interests of ICC that India qualifies.

India have the best players in the world, but I'd hesitate to say they are the best team all the time

Also, it's not a bogus format just because it doesn't necessarily put India in the final

We seem to have used the Sri Lanka series as a warm up for India. I suppose back in the day we'd have played State sides or India A but Sri Lanka aren't a great side but good enough to give us a reasonable run in subcontinent conditions.

Dom Sibley for example struggled big time at first in Galle but by the end of the second test had found a way to get runs. If we'd just come in cold to Chennai it would've been a different story.

With Buttler, that's frustrating for me. I don't see why he couldn't have missed the Sri Lankan series to be honest and then played all of this one. Hopefully Foakes will justify his place. To be fair he's only played 5 tests according to Cricbuzz (although I'm struggling to remember any outside of SL) and averages over 40 including a century on debut. There's no doubt too that he is a superior gloveman to Buttler too. In fact this time last year most fans were wanting Foakes to take Buttler's place.

Chris Silverwood deserves massive credit for the way this English team has turned it around in tests after the Bayliss' era. Root in particular looks massively better as a captain now.

Jarrod Kimber with some interesting insights.

Brilliant article and also funnily poetic given how some of the posts a few pages ago were about how he seems to not take the risks to play out of control even if it sometimes might make sense to save his wicket. His Adelaide performance has also gone under the radar for a similar reason, both were magnificient knocks that deserve more credit than they will deserve due to the match results. Kohli does seem to have a library of them (Edgbaston 149 anyone? That would have made Cricinfo's top 25 of all-time had it been a match-winning knock. Or that 153 in the tour of South Africa, the only century in the entire series), hopefully he gets one real winning knock in a tough situation.

Not sure why Gill was included in that article when his control should have been high too. I do think he's got a very high control percentage too in most of his performances, his dismissals seem frustrating because of how good he plays before getting out so suddenly. Frighteningly talented batsman who could be the cornerstone of this team if he keeps this progress going.
