Story England's tour of the Caribbean

nice to see some bowling dismisalls. When i bowl someone it usually hits off stump, looks like that one is hitting middle. Good work, you should make those runs easily, i have faith!

good innings! nice to see that cable & wireless mat in the background of partnership screenshot

Thanks. Yeah the guys have done an excellent job with the mat and stump editor. Definitely beats the EA and HB trash on the pitch. Modifying the adverts would be nice as well.

Could have sworn I already posted this reply. Must have drifted off into another world for a while...

2 bowled and 2 LB was enjoyable. The picture is after a big outside edge. Ball was originally going down the leg side but hit middle as you said. I was 'appy!

Here's Aggers on the radio now with an update...

"Close of play on day 4 and England are well on their way to reaching the target. 89/1 with Trescothick on 33, and Butcher on 43 ready to resume tomorrow. Vaughn will consider himself unlucky to have missed out on this run chase as he was bowled early on for only 4. With the score on 6/1 another couple of wickets and panic may have set in, but a combination of straying down leg-side to Trescothick, and some superb batting by Butcher, it is the West Indies who need a miracle comeback now. England are exactly half way there. 89 to go, and a day to bat."

i get that sometimes you know you have replied but it dosent show.

You should make that easily, just try to make it convince'in by not losing anymore wickets. There are two half centurys to be had there!

"...5-3. Great goal and that should leave Vancouver leading Calgary in this best of seven series for the Western Conference 1st round playoff. Now quickly to Jonathan Agnew in Jamaica for a test update."

"Thanks. Less an update - more a conclusion really. England have won the first test comfortably by 7 wickets with just over 2 sessions to spare. Hussain crashed the final boundary from Dillon, to finish on 35 not out, accompanied by Thorpe - 10 not out. Trescothick and Butcher both played superbly before falling to the ever more annoying run-out bug. Both times, after turning for the second run, a loud call of NO was heard (the 'A' key was pressed several times to recall the batsmen), both batsmen continued jogging down the wicket to be out by a good 5 or 6 yards.

"That aside, the West Indies never really looked like removing the batsmen, with the exception of Vaughn who fell to one of the best deliveries of the game. Butcher and Thorpe played and missed a couple of times, but that was really down to trying to finish the game off more quickly than was really necessary.

"Still - a comfortable win for England, and an enjoyable 5 days of cricket that could have gone either way until the final couple of sessions.

"We will be back with some match statistics and the presentations shortly, but first its back to Vancouver."

Nice win that one. That run out bug is really annoying. I have had a couple in earlier matches where you tell them to run again and they don't until the fielder has thrown it in.

You'll enjoy playing the Trinidadians - their bowling attack isn't up to much.

Bowling. Only the quicks were used. Surprising seeing as it was Gayle that was the best in the first innings.

Partnerships. That's Butcher's spider hanging in there. Forgot to add that to the picture:

"Once more to Jonathan Agnew in Jamaica"

JA: "We can now go live to Paul Allott who has the captains with him.

PA: "Thanks. Let's bring in a rather grumpy looking Brian Lara. Brian - not the best start to the series?"

BL: "We played well for the first innings, but our batting let us down in the second. They are not going to fail to get that sort of target to win the match with over a day left."

PA: "So do you regret the comments you made about the English bowling not performing on a flat track?"

BL: "We'll have to see what the second test brings. There's still plenty of time left. Vas Drakes' hamstring means he is out for a while, but I believe we have enough strength in depth to overcome this."

PA: "Good politicians answers Brian... You ducked that last question nicely. . Michael Vaughn, a comfortable win."

MV: "Yeah we played well over the 5 days. Still some room for improvement but its nice to get a win under our belt and another cliche checked off my list. We adjusted well to the hard pitch and the guys have worked out the length to bowl on the solid wickets. We've got a good grasp on the conditions and are looking forward to the next test - flat pitch or no flat pitch!"

PA: "Thanks Michael. Here's Clive Lloyd with his man of the match award."

CL: "A good test match with some good batting and bowling performances from both sides - but my man of the match goes to Graham Thorpe for his first innings knock that enabled England to take the lead and pressure the West Indies batsmen in their second."

JA: "Clive obviously wants to get to the bar. No messing! Just time to let you know TMS' champagne moment... we don't have the commentary to hand, but it was the misfield and dive followed by the crowd singing "Are you Bowden in disguise" that was the unanimous choice of all of us here at radio 4. Bowden incidentally has been spotted driving off in an old car with oval wheels and a door which will not shut. He has been sacked from the ICC panel of elite umpires and frankly... good riddance! We could do without muppets like him in the game. Back to Augusta for the golf, and we hope to see you all in Trinidad for England's next tour game against... Trinidad"

GEOFF BOYCOTT: I'm expecting a bit of a knock from Vaughan against Trinidad - he hasn't found his best form so far on this tour and people will begin to question his ability to captain and open. When I played for England in the Caribbean you had to kill me with a short ball before you got my wicket.

And where's Darren Gough???

MICHAEL VAUGHN: I'll have you for that one Boycs. You never got out but people don't want to see you blocking for three days. Goughie - the honourary "Essex Boy" :D is in the squad for the 1-day series. He's drinking too much lager to be fit for 5 days now.

Expect a few changes for the tour match which I will start in a day or so.
