If we're talking about local Derbies than nothing beats The Only Team in London vs that Sunday League team (Arsenal vs Spurs).

It pips Everton vs LiverIdon'tswiminyourtoiletsodon'tpeeinmypool and Manure vs Number 2 (Man U vs Man City) because the 2 teams are more evenly matched.

If it's just 'derbies' in the sense of 2 rival teams, it's Manure versus Pissinthepool simply because they're playing to decide who everyone hates less.

I dont care whether teams involved are local neighbours or not. Madrid-Barca has a history that is much beyond the football pitch. AC-Inter used to be intense not so long ago.

United-Liverpool is purely sporting because its origins lie in the fact that they are the two premier clubs of English football. Liverpool, however, have a much better reputation in Europe.

Once again you show your ignorance by stating that united-liverpool is purely sporting. Also just because you support a European side doesn't mean that you know whether Liverpool have a better reputation in Europe, thats for Europeans to decide. And if you're comparing the size of united and any club united win, they have more fans that anybody in the world. Simple as that really.

Poole have a better reputation in Europe because they actually dominated the region during the 70s and 80s. Five trophies is no joke.

So you're saying teenage Europeans think that, Liverpool are better because of a period where they weren't even born.

Wrong again, I'm afraid. There is big rivalry between the 2 cities, Manchester and Liverpool. There is a big rivalry of the people of the two cities, we have a go at their Scouse ways, and the stereotype, but truth (had to say that):p that they steal and they have a go at our Manc ways.

M_Vaughan, if you think the Manc/Mersey rivalry is purely sporting then you are no real observer of English football whatsoever. I hate Mancs, Mancs hate me. That's the way it is.

Given was on the bench. Harper has started the season fairly well and has earnt his starting place.

cheers mate, its just he is a keeper i have always thought could walk into any team and was wondering where he was... fair doos to harper, if it aint broke, dont fix it

I heard he got fed up of Michael Owen repeatedly handing in a transfer request so they had a fall out, then Sven decided Owen was more important to the side and dropped him. Oh wait that was Football manager.... :p

Leicester-Forest on, I would have gone but i got knocked out playing football today and apparently it's too risky! Woud have liked to see the Forest keeper score though!

how did they do it? did he hoof it long and the keeper left it? or did he do the fifa-style keeper charge?

fifa stylee apparently, really accurate too because no-one bothered tackling him :p

So, Man Utd get started tonight in the C/L. How do you fellow Utd fans think we'll do this year?

Hmmm, well I don't know yet. Its a bit to early I think to tell how we will do over the whole tournament, however I do think we will progress through the group stage - us and Roma will go through. I think we should talk about how we will go in the group stage before talking about winning the thing, after our so-so start.

Todays game against Sporting will be good - they will see their two old boys Nani and Ronaldo:p No Hargreaves is a bummer but. At least Carrick will be assured he will play. Hopefully Fergie pushes up Scholes! He is good when he is deep but I still like him pushing up the ground. Rooney is back but I want Saha starting if he is 100% fit, I still rate him highly (even though at the end of last season I thought he was a gonner). I like Tevez but I reckon he is still adjusting and will get better as we go along.

All in all, how will we go this season? Iam not sure - too early. I reckon after last season we should expect a Semi Final. From there anything can happen.
