Your Cricket General Bowling Thread

Yeah, how fast do you bowl? It doesn't look overly quick for your age.

I was bowling with a torn ligiment and torn cartlidge in my knee lol.

Probably best that you get back to full fitness before you try to sort out your action or increase your pace. The lase thing you want to do is to increase any damage, especially around the knee.

Ouch the knee is a funny one, you can keep off it, let it heal, or keep going when you can, train lightly and try to get it strong, either way it'll keep you out of action for a good amount of weeks, if its so bad, MONTHS!

I've ripped, torn, broke, sprained my ankles, both! and its a real hardship to get back up and keep going.

From looking at that, you look like you could help with your post release, you seem to fall away a little, try to keep straight as long as possible. Secondly, you have a slightly slingy action mixed with a bit of a medium pacers look. I'd say to increase speed you'd possibly need to take a few more steps backwards from your bowling mark and try to run through the popping crease with more speed, and hope that you can fit everything together, getting release and front-foot plantation correct, if not, keep working on it!

:)

From having a further look at his video I pretty much agree with what you have to say Simon, my only caution would be are we seeing his true action or one which is being modified due to his knee problems?

However, it's true that he's falling away slightly and needs to try to remain upright for as long as possible - wants to get the arms coming through with each other and make sure the lines are correct. As said I'm hesitant to make any big changes to the foot work until he's seen post injury.

Im having surgery in september so it's suppose to take six months before i can take part in any bowling so I'l post a video up a then and you guys can judge my action in full flow:p

Plus you need to see it on a true, lined out net, or pitch, to see footing etc.

Funnily enough, he seems to fall into the pitch, when most fall away from it, if this isnt sorted it could cause trouble. But like A_A said, it could be due to injury, and could also be not as aggresive as a match condition as its in the nets, i know i dont try as hard, and my action might fall away a bit, but if you follow whats been said, with the harder running etc. And try to get your arm going through the line, straight and quick, it should be looking up.

And theres always the double windmill you could try, its very effective when used properly, and doesnt have to be used as a normal run up, just now and again.

Don't wreck your knee, seriously...
One of my clubs most talented players, could bowl 80+ and was 6 ft 4, so got plenty of wickets...he had a small knee injury, but kept playing cos he was getting bagfuls of wickets...and then a year or 2 later went to the hospital about his knee and his kneecap had split from his leg, it wrecked a great talent, and now he bowls medium pacers off a 2 pace run up and fields at slip as he cant run very well.

This is me having a bowl down at my local net last weekend.
In my area im the fastest bowler around;) but currently i have an injured knee and im set to have surjery so il be fixed up and be ready to represent New Zealand:p

Does anyone think my action will lead to back injurys because it looks like I have a dodgey action.

post your veiws please:)

Hope that goes well for you.

Yeah it sux,It got screwed up playing rugby last year and the doctor just thought it was bruising so i went to a knee specialist in February and said i need sergury and that theres a 95% chance it will fully heal.

It isnt a slingy as first look, but you need to straighten your arm, its wandering off to leg, and yeah, im right as always, your getting tempted into falling into the pitch post-release, keep yourself straight.

You run like a medium-fast, when really, that action is worthy of fast-medium. As i said earlier, try taking 3 steps back from your normal run up, and dont slow going through the crease, just try running up, without a ball, and getting your feet right, because the quicker you can approach the crease, the quicker you'll bowl.

Bowling Help

Hi,

This season i was bowling quite well until my last school game when suddenly i couldnt hit length well and lost my line.

I Bowl right arm medium around 65mph, which i believe is good for a 15 year old, I have a straight on bowling action with my front arm going up in the air before my back arm swings through. One of my friends noticed yesterday that my head was dropping when i bowled, i fixed that and things seemed better but still it wasnt right. Im around 5ft 6" and im wondering if anyone can give me some advice about how to be more accurate and hit the pitch on a good length and put some yorkers in.

All Help appreciated. :)

well a quickie needs a good follow through, so first things first follow through properly, this includes momentum after bowling, but what i do when i lose my line as a leggie i go back to basics, just concentrate on bringing the bowling arm down properly, i as a leggie, release the ball from the highest postion possible, this may be different for a quickie as a spinner looks to flight the ball. so what i reccomend is that you forget about pace, that will come laterm and concentrate on bowling on off stump or just outside, on a good length. :)
