Generation Draft - COMPLETED!!

Lol, that was quick :p

Worrell's an amazing pick. It was him who said Weekes was the best batsman out of the 3, but Worrell offers a lot more to your team.

Ponsford's not a bad pick either. He did play most his career in the next time-period though. I'll let you keep him :) but if someone has a problem with it (cos they might have been targetting him for Round 4), then you might have to change.

I now get what Stinky would be feeling waiting all that while. I don't know which players I'll be picking.

My Picks : Jack Russell and Geoff Boycott

Will do the write up later. :)

Haha, good picks. Being greedy there by having 4 openers though :p And Boycott was more of a 70's player. Again, I'll let you keep them for now, but if anyone else has a problem that you have 4 openers and Boycott being picked in this round, then I'll have to ask you to change.

Do you want me to pass the the turn to Swacker and risk the above, or change your picks?

I'd rather change my pick. 4 openers is too much indeed and I agree with the Boycott part, his career went into the 80's so it might be unfair to pick him in this round. Give me a minute, I'll make another pick.

----------

Ken Barrington is my pick. :)

Yeah, I'll keep Russell. Not really sure who else to pick. :p

Crap :( Was thinking I might be able to get him as an opener later (long-shot).

This opens up an interesting discussion though - should we keep judge the players by their batting position? For eg. Russell only played at either No. 1 or 6. He only scored 364 runs in the latter position. So, would Aditya's pick Russell be that effective?

Discuss.

For me positions are important. In all the drafts I've been a part of, I've always tried to fit players I pick in their respective positions. I'd say we should judge a pick based on the position he played at.

Might not be the best idea to make it a rule. Let the members decide the positions of the players they are selecting because at the end of the day, it's their team and if their team line up has horrible, line up wise, like making a middle order batsman bat as opener or vice versa, there team would obviously not be rated as "great".

Haha, I said I was screwed over because I got fairly late picks for the first 4. I made that comment before deciding who I wanted. However, even though I didn't get my first choice, the team is still shaping up rather nicely, in hindsight.

Barrington is a great pick. A real run machine.

Yeah it's tough to make it a rule, because in the last round or 2 your best pick might be an opener when you've already got 2, that kind of thing. I think I mentally tend to penalise a team though - I think, hey he's not an opener or whatever and that can make me judge a team more negatively. So really if someone wants to play 5 openers then they should be allowed to, just don't expect to have as many fans that's all.

Gotta say I wasn't expecting Ponsford this early - I thought he just played a couple of big innings at the opposite end to Bradman, but it seems he was a bit better than that. You can educate me further in your write up :thumbs And I had never heard of Jack Russell until today (well the non-wicketkeeping one anyway) He's got a great Test average (FC one not so impressive) but he only played 10 Tests so he can't have been too awesome. Although it would have been tough to crack the England opening spot with Hobbs/Sutcliffe hanging about. Looking forward to hearing about him though.
