Idea Cup 2010
India Vs. Srilanka
ODI Match @ Sher-E-Bangla Stadium,Mirpur.

Easy Win For India!

The Indian openers walked to chase the Srilankan total as the Indian supporters burst in anticipation of yet another 'Gambhir-Sehwag' storm.

Chasing a pretty easy score, Indians didn't start off well. Kulasekara removed Sehwag in the very first over for a golden duck. Kohli came out to replace Sehwag a lot early than he might have liked.

Gambhir and Kohli then didn't look back from there. Both played their shots as Kohli looked to be in sweet touch while Gambhir was his own self. They put on 97 runs for the 2nd wicket and put India in the driver's seat.

After Kohli and Gambhir, it was the chance of the Indian middle-order to come to the party as Raina, Yuvraj and Dhoni played little cameos while India chased down the target easily. Raina wanted to finish the things off in style and he did just that by hitting the winning runs with a massive six!

Zaheer Khan was named the Man of the Match for his superb bowling. His figures of 3/40 in 10 overs were exceptional as he blew off the Srilankan top-order.

Bangladesh Vs. India -Preview

Bangladesh may most probably fail to make it to the Final of the Idea Cup but they are capable of causing an upset or two in this tournament. Upset may not be the right word infact. The hosts have every chance to win either against India or Sri Lanka if they utilise their raw talent properly and actually play with the right tactics.

The Tigers have improved a lot and the best part is that their team is getting filled up with many young strokeful batsmen. Most of the Bangladeshi batsmen look dangerous and quite eager to take on the bowlers. In this scenario, the Indian bowlers have got to get them out before getting hit around. With the young Bangladeshi batsmen expected to play through the line without much footwork, swing will be the key factor for India. Ashish Nehra will hold the key as he is great exponent in swinging the ball around to get the nick behinds and the lbws.

Ashish Nehra has been a superb swing bowler under the right conditions. The left armer was very unlucky not to get wickets against Sri Lanka with the new ball. He will surely continue to pose a threat to the batsmen should he be able to swing the ball and the wickets will fall to him eventually. The Pitch at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur also has some uneven bounce. The odd ball just kicks off the turf if the pacers are willing to bend their back. For the spinners, the ball is every now and then gripping and holding onto the surface in the first half. Ofcourse there is nothing in the pitch during the latter half with the dew playing the villain.

Should India lose the toss and get to bowl under the lights then their only chance is to take wickets in a hurry in the first ten overs. With the dew expected to cause problems, the bowlers will be in the game only for that 10 overs of time period after which it is a cakewalk for any batsmen. It will be interesting to see how the Indian batsmen approach the spin-oriented attack of the Bangladeshis. The hosts have an erratic pace attack which can be torn apart by someone like Sehwag. It should be a great contest if the Bangladeshi batting fires up to put up a strong challenge to India. Like always ?Complacency? will be the thing to guard against for MS Dhoni?s men against a weaker side like Bangladesh.

Regardless of whether they bat first or chase, India will feel confident that they can comfortably beat their weaker opponents. Having said that, Bangladesh are known to spring a surprise on the Indians when least expected, and the Indian debacle at the World Cup 2007 comes to mind. We can expect a closely fought contest, and a fairly high scoring one, provided Bangladesh show up with character and the will to succeed.

Watch out for

Harbhajan Singh: One of the bowlers who performed against Sri Lanka, with figures of 1 for 53. It wouldn't have been easy to grip the ball under lights but wicket of Jayawardene came with good use of flight. The Rajkot blitzkrieg is another example - he stood out with figures of 2 for 58 in ten overs, including the wicket of Tillakaratne Dilshan for 160. He's had a good last ten games, with an economy rate of 4.78 and 13 wickets.

Tamim Iqbal: He was Bangladesh's in-form player in 2009, scoring 642 runs at 32.10 with a career-best 154 and two fifties. He looked poised for another fifty or so against Sri Lanka but was unfortunate to get run out. He said recently that he's trying to focus on occupying the crease for longer periods. If he puts that in practice, it will allow the rest to bat around him.

Team news

Bangladesh are likely to drop Rubel Hossain for the experienced Shahadat Hossain. Imrul Kayes might also face the axe to allow Shahriar Nafees in the eleven.

India are likely to rest their pace attack leader Zaheer Khan and give a chance for the likes of Dinda and Tyagi to have a go at Bangladeshi batsmen.

Quotes

"If the middle order performs and we have a flourish towards the end, then a very good score is possible. If you are bowling second then it is very important for the new ball bowlers to get a couple of early breakthroughs. Otherwise it tends to get tougher and tougher as the wickets are great for batting."
Mushfiqur Rahim

"Good yorkers and slower ones are always going to help you win the games but I am not too disappointed as it was tough to bowl yorkers here with the dew."
MS Dhoni
