Hindi Cinema Discussion

Saw 3 Idiots yesterday. An entire movie theater, in America, was devoted just to this one movie. And it was all sold out!

3 Idiots is the best movie I have ever seen. It eclipses Kal Ho Na Ho, Lagaan, Iqbal, everything. Amazing movie. Aamir is a genius.

Where did you watch it (city)? The theatre I went to here in Columbus, it was also fully devoted to screening 3 Idiots. They are screening the film till Jan 6th with a minimum of 2 shows a day and 4 shows till Dec 28th (I guess this is the longest time that they will screen an Indian film here in our state of Ohio). I might watch the film once again next weekend (Jan 2-3).

Why.. I think this Film is about you and your friends

^^Well, NO! I was a loner while I studied in college. I entered college at a time when I moved from India to the US and couldnt easily get used to the cultural change and so I didnt make friends at all. I am going again to the film because its very entertaining and has good messages.

Chicago. It's a BigCinema movie theater, owned by Ambani. 6 screens, 11 shows a day, all sold out playing only 3 idiots.

Can't wait to buy the DVD.

Cricketman added 2 Minutes and 51 Seconds later...

I also watched Rocket Singh the night before. Good movie, I enjoyed it. But watching 3 idiots simply put it to shame.

Sai, I took your advice and watched kurbaan too. I'm about halfway through, its a decent flick just hit the climax....

You've watched the film? The guys did as well as possible to fit into their roles (you sometimes need to make compromises if you want the project to be big in terms of value). And regarding Kareena, after 'Jab We Met', this is probably her second best film in terms of her critics liking the film.

Lagaan and Iqbal not worth raving about? I agree maybe KHNH is not that much worth raving about, but my friend 'Lagaan' and 'Iqbal' are among the best films to be made in this decade (Lagaan is a top Indian film that we can show to anyone in this world).

Okay, so it was good. What just sucks is that they don't know these days in Bollywood that when they're going overboard with the "Hero can do everything". Movie was good, but these things ruin the movie for me.

But the audience have to be blamed for that. For example, lets take Amitabh Bachchan's attempt to move away from hero roles and do character roles (e.g. father, brother, teacher, etc). Does he enjoy the same kind of opening and hype that a Shahrukh Khan or an Aamir Khan movie enjoys? NO! Heck, even his son Abhishek enjoys a bigger opening since he is a hero unlike Amitabh who plays character roles. Indian cinema is so hero centric, though we are changing. But it will take lot of time before we completely move out of hero dominated films.

I'm not against a hero centered film, you're missing the point. I'm just saying they don't have to show the Hero to do ANYTHING.

For example, in 3 Idiots, that child coming to life on saying "All is Well" was a bit ridiculous.

The child had earlier kicked in his/her mother's womb when Aamir said "All is Well". So the director established before itself that the child reacted positively to that phrase. And so after it came out and didnt cry or do anything, Sharman saying that phrase again made a positive impact. The child was not dead, it just didnt react the way it was supposed to (by crying).

LOL The child was still, motionless. The phrase "Not Crying" just doesn't literally mean crying, it implies that in 90% cases something is wrong with the baby and it needs immediate attention. If it was in a subconscious state, I find it very wierd that saying 3 words can bring him back to life.

I will watch it when I am free.. I like Amir Khan

I laugh more at Aamir. Poor guy, had to loose all his body for this role.
