How are you doing in your career?

What did you choose for your career player?

I think something like that would be pushing it with the amount of teams/regional division surely? Perhaps county/state youth/2nds would be a better route to start with?

I wanna start with playing cricket on my driveway. Please include my driveway. Its on google street view.

I think a great way to start the career mode would be have trials in the form of nets and practise matches. So, for example, you get X amount of trial 'points', say 10, and a net session with a county costs you 2 points and a match 4 - with the latter giving you a better chance of proving yourself in a match situation and therefore giving you a better chance of being signed (hence more costly).

Or, have an allocated amount of points and the better the county/state team, the higher the 'cost' of the trial. Would you play it safe and try out for lesser teams or go for broke and try and get into one of the bigger teams?

Once you've been signed you should be put in the 2nd XI for a while, before moving up to 1st XI providing you play well enough.

Career choices would be a cool too. You could choose to be a test, T20 or ODI specialist or try and do all three.

I like the trial idea.

PES Become a Legend has (or maybe used to have) it where you played a game and three sides then showed interest.

A trial game playing for MCC Young Cricketers (or for your chosen nations sides equivalent ;) ) against another nations young side would be good . Your performance could give you a stat boost/ranking boost so if you play well you might get an offer from the better sides. Have an average game, one of the middle group etc.

Of course I wouldn't rest too much on it but just an idea.

Some of these are great ideas, but they seem a bit elaborate for a small company like Big Ant to do.

My only things I'd want in the future for career is the addition of second teams and the possibility to have careers focused on different formats (such as T20 "mercenary" or test/first class). The latter is probably a way off yet. I don't want a storyline like NBA 2k14 as that would detract from the main focus of playing cricket. I'm happy with choosing your team as I don't want to end up with Gloucestershire if I mess up my one chance in a trial game. That's not very realistic anyway. Young players work there way up through the counties and consistent runs or wickets in the lower levels usually gets them a place.

I like the idea of joining our wonderkid player's career at 16 in the second eleven (or in this game first XI) and making him great, not him being in a make or break career decider. I want to play for my favourite team as well, and then mixing it up through my choice once I do my first career.

yeah there's good ideas here but the point is, its the first version of DB cricket (and the first of its kind ie career mode in cricket) so we have to go with it. Having said that, a lot of us have put forward good ideas (how many pages does this thread have? lol) which will hopefully make it into future iterations of DB cricket. I know I've certainly thrown in my $0.02 worth for the career mode (where I'll be spending 90% of my time) based on my experiences with FIFA and NBA. Baby steps eh? :yes

I don't understand this ODI/T20 specialist desire. The only players in real life that do this either aren't good enough for test cricket or too old for the rigours of tests

So if you want to be one of these players, when you get to level 5, Ie. Test player
player... Just be rubbish at it so they bust your ass back down to level 4.

If you are selected to be captain- how will setting the field work when simulating portions of the game. Will the computer simulate with default fields based on the game situation. I assume when in career mode as merely a member of the team (not captain) that you will have no say in setting the field (true or false). As a bowler in career will you get given a field to bowl to or can you set the field yourself?

I would prefer the test/ODI specialist career, similar to the likes of Trott, Pujara, Cook, Clarke and to lesser extents Kallis and Amla, (or bowlers like Harris, Siddle, Anderson or Philander). They aren't exciting or flashy and some are good at the top of the order in ODI's, but T20's definitely aren't for them. They are the sort of batsmen and bowlers who I like or play similar to (if you divide their test batting strike rates by 10) and are the best in the business.

I think it could be kept simple by just adding 2nd XI state teams(doesn't have to have proper names for players) and I'd like to see U19 and "a" teams for internationals. I'm sure that these kind of things have been thought of though for future versions.

i'd like to start aged 8 and have every innings over 15 or more than 2 wickets result in a "well done" bum tap, by a coach who is later busted for showering with the under 13s.

on another note, surely the game has to be responsive to what you're doing as a player? if i am averaging 40-50 with a strike rate over 85 in List A, but only averaging 28 in first class, then i would expect to get IPL chances, ODI and T20I opportunities... conversely if i'm averaging 50 in FC but with a list A strike rate of 45 i should get test opportunities and not the ODI/T20I/IPL opportunities. even at a first iteration i think this is "relatively" simple for the game to handle.

Blockerdave with a SR of 45!!! Few edges then bud!!!

Seeing Chinaman, blocker, and NoLeName's posts on the same page cracks me up every time :lol
