How are you going in International Cricket 2010?

Half way through the last session of day 2, Pak v Aus at Headingley

Pak 250

Aus 7/349 after 100.0 overs (Clarke 115*, Katich 82, North 48, Gul 3/62. Afridi 2/52)

Taking me ages to get through this test - limited time with work and footy, plus it gets a bit boring after a while - not complaining because that's the nature of test cricket! :D

Supershtuffthat, can you please change your avatar?

I realize that Tendulkar is getting bowled, but whenever I take a glance at it, I mentally have the image of an Indian poster, simply because it is Tendulkar batting (and the picture is too small to clearly see he is being bowled). And I like to mentally discriminate in my head who is who through what country they're from

If you must keep it at that, here is a better quality picture

This will clearly tell me you are not an Indian. Thanks :)

Sure, Ive been meaning to change it for years anyway! :)

Hey superstuff, any tips for batting a long time? I just can't seem to bat more than 2 session, despite defending a lot. If I lost one it usually means 2 -3 more quick wickets :facepalm

I'm not superstuff, but I've batted about 88 overs (only 2 wickets left)

The key is all confidence. I try to avoid short balls by getting out of the way so I don't get hit, because if I play them I am more likely to get hit than score runs - which brings me down quite a bit. And run quick singles alot - they help a tiny bit in confidence (i think)

I get hit a lot, going to try to cut down on that. Starting a 2 Test series as SA against SL.

Well firstly, I bat on broadcast. My preference anyway.

Any ball that looks like it has the potential of being difficult to play I defend/leave. I play the bad balls - like real cricket. When the batsmen get more confident, I can then increase strength of shot, and hit more deliveries.

Initially, try playing low power shots - this builds confidence too. As does getting singles, which are easy by playing these low power shots, and directing defensive strokes into the gaps. I find I play the leg glance quite a bit for easy singles - like real cricket. Remember low power shots = bigger timing window = less chance of edging.

With timing, I find I wait until the last minute to play the ball, rather than just as it leaves the bowlers hand. This is for both seam and spin bowlers.

Good post. I find myself following these same principles as well.

I seem to bowl out the AI for low 200 in 50 odd overs everytime. Both openers get good starts and then its ALWAYS a weird runout that gives me the 1st wicket. Batsman hits it to a fielder takes off and the non striker doesnt.

Happen to anyone else? Usually happens to Katich for me
Wow, That happened to Katich when I was bowling as well.
Any Ideas why I rolled the AI for 109 and 63, I probably dropped 8 or so catches a well.

Hmmm.

how many wickets did you take from:

a) caught behind from the spinners and
b) changing your delivery at the last minute (i.e saying that your going to bowl a straight ball then change it to an outswinger?)

Trying to identify a pattern.

Supershtuffthat added 8 Minutes and 44 Seconds later...

Also, how many wickets were caught at:

short cover?
short midwicket?
third slip?

And did you use custom fields?

a) About half of my wickets were caught behind or caught at first slip off the spinners.
b)None at all, I don't change my deliveries.

Short cover, none at all. Short mid wicket, none at all (I never had either of them positions)
Most wickets were caught by keeper, 1st 2nd or 3rd slip or gully, and were off both pace and spin, but mainly spin in the 2nd innings.
Yes I used custom fields, I just made usual test match fields though.
I'll play again soon and see if my first game was just a fluke.

catches from superhuman keepers off spinners I have now identified as being a game killer in terms of low AI scores in tests, and too many wickets to spinners in all forms of the game.

Solution: don't let the keeper take catches of spinners. Lame, I know.

or reduce keeper catching ability to 0.

^Its sad that we have to think and work so hard to make the game playable. I wish developers would do the same when developing the damn thing :facepalm
