India in England/Ireland/Scotland

India will miss the services of Mun af Patel on this tour.
A fully fit Munaf (bowling at a brisk pace) would have been great to have in the side to complement Sreesanth and Zaheer.
I do not consider R.P.Singh to be test cricket material .

They should go in with Ranadeb Bose ahead of R.P.Singh for the tests.

Sehwag, as I said earlier should have been poicked for the tests as he has not failed for that long in test cricket.
As always , the selectors went in with the popular public opinion which was to drop him and mixed up his test form with his ODI form.

A real problem for Sehwag is that the domestic season in India is over and there seems to be no vacancy in county cricket for him.

I think India will miss pathan and patel. I know pathan has been off form, however he is a great swinger off the ball when he is in form. Patel is another good line and lenthg baler and they say his fitness is a issue as it’s a long tour, I think if they would off selected him, before the first test they would have had a better idea. And pathan I heard he was not even considered

Anyone got some thoughts for tomorrows game? I will be charging my Camera in a minute so I will be taking some snaps.

Didn't know.
Could i get a link to the squads please?

There's an associated article on Cricinfo too, but I can't be bothered to find it. This was old news, though!

There was a largish article on the front sports page of the ToI today about Pathan rediscovering his swing. He apparently worked with Dennis Lillee who has certified that he is getting back to the right scheme of things (I haven't read the article, just skimmed over it). Oh well, we'll probably end up picking him against Pakistan which will probably have flat pitches and send him packing once again.

Against Sussex? Normally I would expect India to fair badly but I think with the Ireland practice, we should get a good knock or two in. I expect we'll try some players out given that we have another tour match before the test series starts.

Well apparently the start has been pushed an hour back until noon. I don't know why, I can't find any answers, only thing I can think of is that due to us haveing back to back 20-20s. Anyone know why? (Andrew maybe ;))

Yeah, Pathan's going to be back, there's no doubt about that. Even when he isn't playing, he makes the news. Patel is good too but a little lazy... Apparently he's as fast as he used to be again after training at that foundation in india

Kumble needs to do well in the test series. It really sucks that Piyush Chawla isnt playing either. I'm sure he can learn a few things from the good ol' Kumble. Personally, I would've chosen Chawla above Powar. Youth and ...fitness.

A decent performance thus far by the touring Indians. They've got 206/3 with Jaffer not putting up a decent effort. Karthik and Gambhir both gone for 50's and Dravid settling down. Laxman shall join him. This is a big opportunity for Laxman to get in a good knock and probably edge Yuvraj out of the XI.

Its 262/3 now. Karthick does well whenever he gets the chance. He is making it very tough for the selectors to drop him from the XI. He has almost cemented his place in the side.

Good knock from Gambhir too. The pitch had bounce when he batted and he did well. I hope Yuvraj gets a chance to showcase his skills too. Yuvraj is a better fielder than Laxman and the only thing that seperates him from Laxman is the experience!

Did you see it Saisrini?

I was at Hove today (I've got 'orrible sun burn!) The Indians looked fairly solid throughout the day, I wouldn't say they were inventive, attacking, playing with flair, etc. I thought it was very much a "Get yourself in lads and make some runs" performance. So good to see Saqlain get a wicket too!

Nope, I didnt see it. I was talking based on what read from the Cricinfo bulletins and other match reports.

Yeah, it was the expected ploy by the Indians. Even though they played in tough conditions in Ireland, they have moved to a different country now, and being a warm up game, they treated this game as a tool to get acclimatised to England conditions. In the last session, the batting looked more solid and the runs came at a faster clip.

I hope Jaffer strikes form and becomes an opener for the future. I recently saw some videos of Azharuddin when he was in the peak of his career, and man, that guy reminds me of Azhar.

*I am not an Azhar fan, but Azhar was a good batsman before the whole match fixing scandal*

^ He was still a good batsman (even after the match-fixing scandal), just not as good a human being for selling out to his country and fans.

This is a good performance from the Indians. No point in trying to put the runs up quickly and lose wickets along the way if the opportunities to practice are low given the rain.

One mistake in life does not necessarily make a person `a bad human being`.
He was an elegant batsman though.

That's why I didn't say he was a bad human being. I said he was 'not as good' a human being. Translation of that into bad was simply your doing.

Azhar when in full flow used to demolish the opposition.I still remember his innings in Sharjah against the then World Champions,Sri Lanka.
He completely demolished the likes of Murali and Chandana.

Well, but this is drifting away from the topic.
Anyways,i belive that Jaffer still has a long way to go.
I as a selector, would have selcted Akash Chpra instead of Jaffer.
