India in England Jun-Sept 2014

Telling any cricketer to give up T20 leagues in order to concentrate on test cricket is considered an insult, even more so if its an Indian or West Indian. T20 leagues are where the cricketer can cash in and become a millionaire, doubt it very much an Indian cricketer is gonna give up on T20 cricket and concentrate on test cricket!

T20 cricket encourages slogging (plain and simple), in test cricket slogging will get you no where soon, this is why people would tend to blame the IPL for India's demise. However I also agree with you that the IPL is not to blame only, example the type of pitches being prepared over the years which tend to be roads. When is the last time the BCCI done anything to boost test cricket? They are to blame also. Lets face it most of India prefer the glitz and glamour of T20 cricket (The Rockstars, like Jadeja is a Sir in T20 arena) and most go by stats ( as Saisrini had mentioned in one of his posts earlier) and revenge series such as you are talking about where justifies India possibly doing bad in AUS since the Aussies were already humiliated on Indian soil by losing four tests.

Telling someone to miss IPL is an insult, especially to WI and Indians :D haha, you do have a real hard on for Ind Cricket, don't you?

You clearly have no idea how the Jadeja and 'sir' got together, and it has nothing to do with him being good in T20, it had more to do with Jadeja being terrible to be honest. Also Pujara is hardly a serious T20 player, same for Pankaj Singh, I doubt he has even signed up for team. I don't watch a lot of IPL but I don't remember seeing Pankaj Singh ever play in the IPL. So again you are lacking context to what you are saying. This is just another Cricketers are mercenaries post, missing the larger context, and there have been tonnes of those already, over the years.

Someone gets injured blame IPL, Ind lose a match blame IPL, some sneezes blame IPL, someone sleeps late, blame IPL, someone yawns when he shouldn't blame IPL !

Also the players cannot just randomly miss the IPL, as geniuses who have clearly no remote understanding of how contracts work, so eagerly suggest the second a negative reuslt hits. The player are under contract for starters, and their team owners have invested heavily in them. I bet no one wanted Ind to miss IPL and work on test cricket after Lord's.

Its fair to say that only the never have beens and have beens think of T20 as serious cricket. In India every cricketer worth his salt longs to play test cricket. Yes away results have been poor, but short of that, post IPL Ind were test #1, Ind won the WC, Ind won the CT, and Ind apart from the defeat to Eng have a good run going at home. The Eng home test defeat has been put behind and India hve since properly whipped Aus and got a 6 match winning run going. In the same period as the overseas fiasco right now, Ind have won 11 of their last 15 home tests. Away defeats is the one aberration in Ind cricket right now, and still ppl cannot be patient enough to wait.

More than IPL and the instant money culture, it is the fans and their instant success culture needs to be looked at.

Just thought I'd check how much it would be to go see the ODI between England and India at Edgbaston and the cheapest ticket I could find was £65! What a rip off!

Historically away defeats have always been a problem for India, for decades upon decades this has been the main problem. Fully agree 200% about the ''instant success culture'' phrase, its give better meaning to what I was trying to convey when i used the term ''glitz and glamour. You know something we pretty much share similar views, wrt cricket I guess we both have a ''hard on'' as you say.[DOUBLEPOST=1408357733][/DOUBLEPOST]

No I genuinely find you to be over critical of almost everything Ind Cricket hence the phrase 'Hard On' ! Also I don't see how 'instant success culture' and 'glitz and glamour' are one and the same. 'Instant success culture' is a fan issue, while 'glitz and glamour' indicates some one trying to say players having been caught in the glamour, not taking cricket seriously.

Two different things.

My ticket for day one at Old Trafford was £58. I thought that was quite reasonable - some Premier League football clubs charge more than that to watch 90 minutes of domestic football. I paid £58 to watch 8 hours of international cricket.

£65 is a bit excessive for an ODI but then Edgbaston hasn't had a Test this year so they must be keen to make as much money as they can out of this game.

Yeah I suppose the timeframe difference means an increased price is kind of justified, but I thought £65 was still a bit steep. That would be a very expensive day out once travel, food/drink etc are factored in. Perhaps I'd consider it for a day of a test match but I don't really care enough about ODIs to spend that much, I just thought it might be a cheap day out but it's not!

Dhoni's tour just got better and better, 3-1 defeat, main players not showing and now he's been fined 60% of his match fee for a slow over rate. Well done Mr Dhoni

If India has to have any chance of doing well at the world cup in 6 months, Dhoni has to retire as the test captain immediately. He would still make the team as the first choice wicketkeeper. Especially after his gritty performances with the bat in England.

Because, if there is another disastrous tour of Australia inflicted upon him before the World Cup then even the "coolest" of the captains would feel jittery. And given Dhoni's value in the ODI setup, the last thing we need is a low on confidence MSD.
