India in England Jun-Sept 2014

England one-day squad: Alastair Cook (capt), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Jos Buttler (wk), Steven Finn, Harry Gurney, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, Eoin Morgan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, James Tredwell, Chris Woakes.

Pretty much expected move. I am still surprised to see Fletcher and Dhoni there. It looks like World cup that is only 6 months away now has saved Fletcher's job. However, I don't expect us to do any better under Fletcher in World cup so I think it would have been better getting a new coach. This stubborn approach of changing nothing even when we are at our lowest point in test is not going to help the team in the long term.

It is good to see Sanjay Bangar in the coaching staff because he comes in with some very good knowledge of our domestic players which current coaching staff has no idea about. A bit surprised to see Ravi Shastri there because I don't really know how he is going to help.

by giving the full monty on the job...:p[DOUBLEPOST=1408451996][/DOUBLEPOST]but actually its good to see the bcci stepping in, instead of waiting for the tour to get over, shastri is mostly there to supervise fletcher i think and report back to take a call on him.

Lets put it this way lad, at their best Johnson is simply better. Stats do tell a tale but not the whole story, Steyn has been consistent certainly while Johnson has had some bad periods. Steyn is surely capable of bowling at 150kph consistent but he aint doing it these days, his average speed is 140kph or less while Johnson hits the deck above 145kph. Now this is just my view, lets wait see how the Indians handle him.

As explained Steyn chooses to bowl at lower speeds at times in order to concentrate on swing/accuracy depending on the pitch conditions. He cranks it up when the conditions suits or when needed.

As for how the indians handle Johnson, lets see him take 7fer on a dead nagpur pitch like Steyn has done...

They will not touch Dhoni in the middle of the tour (probably they won't touch Dhoni until the World Cup is over even though I want them to just relieve Dhoni of test captaincy; not ODI because he is still a good captain for limited overs). Fletcher is the one who could be in trouble. The fact that you bring in a Director of Cricket to undermine Fletcher's role and also relieve his proteges (read Penny, Dawes) to bring in local coaches says that the BCCI might have finally woken up to act on Fletcher (probably the scathing comments of Fletcher and his staff by ex-cricketers like Vishwanath, Prasanna, Wadekar, etc have worked). But the reason they are going back to Shastri is because Shastri took over as interim coach after the 2007 World Cup debacle, and after that India had a resurgence with the T20 WC win, etc. Could also be construed as Shastri getting the job because him and Gavaskar are BCCI pets.

Good that Bangar gets an opportunity here. Making Bangar as head coach with someone overseeing him (continuing with the Director of Cricket position, but not Shastri for the long term; definitely not Fletcher) might probably be a long term option.

Pretty standard England squad. I'm not a huge limited overs fan, but I think India will win comfortably.

On a separate note, I just wanted to say a massive "Thank you" to PC members who are Indian fans. Your good humour and grace through the series has been great and its been a real pleasure debating cricket with you all. You all know your stuff, so that helps!

I read of Shashtri appointment and couldn't decide if it will make things worse or make things much worse.

I don;t think Ind will win, let alone easily. Their heads are no longer in it. They can't wait to get out of England. The core of the test teams and ODI teams are the same. Also traditionally Ind when they stuggle overseas struggle in both forms. Ind lost ODI series in SA, NZ for instance.

Once Fletcher leaves and we all know he is leaving, whether its upon India's return or after the World Cup ... who would you like to see take over. I vote Kirsten, with the resources BCCI has, I am sure he can be tempted to join. However if he doesn't, who would you like to see.

No chance for Gazza. He wouldn't have left the SA job except for the family issues. He is very happy with his ipl gig and occasional SA team consultancy roles.

I wouldn't mind Ganguly or Dravid to take up coaching if they are up for it. Especially Dravid since he has been excellent in his mentor role with RR and actually has the seen a lot of the team grow beside him. Plus he would get instant respect from every member of the team.

No I know, Gary would not ordinarily come, that is why I said, the BCCI with its resources would have to entice him. A great contract, a super salary, etc. which other boards cannot afford. If it doesn't work, then sure other options could be looked at.

dravid is the bating consultant on this tour i think;)

i would like someone a bit unorthodox like sourav but dont think him and msd will gel all that well. Kristen was the best, some one like him..but cant think of any rightnow.

anything happening other than stagnating with fletcher/current setup is a good thing.

Dravid would be a good idea, I am not sure about Ganguly, he has too much of a baggage he will bring with him.
