India in England Jun-Sept 2014

Your argument would`ve made some sense if this was the first series defeat under Dhoni overseas. Unlike Clarke who lost the series in India 4-0 followed by the 3-0 in England, Dhoni has presided over close to 15 test defeats overseas. He has been given the longest possible rope. Time for someone else to come in with fresh ideas.
In past 7 years, Australia has just played 13 Test matches on proper spinning tracks. Out of which they have won just one match and lost 6 matches. Do you call that record ?

again its nice and well to say numbers like that, but that was a different team, and in all cases captain cant bat for others. will elaborate on this more later.

Msd is the best bet for india for now atleast till Aus tour, a change right now will totally eradicate all the positives built up.

Changing MSD as test captain is not going to erase any positives. In fact, it could help the team stop using people like Jadeja who is not at all test level. A new captain like Kohli would find it challenging to take over at a turbulent time like this, but we have had history before of captains taking over during turbulent times and getting the team out of the dark (a certain aggressive left hander comes to mind:p).

Morgan and Finn seem to be the only intl players in that side.

Anyways, 230 all out seems too low. How has the pitch been? Good to see Kohli among the runs. Why did Raina and Samson bat that low? I am pretty sure Raina is a sure shot for the XI for the first ODI.
It's Lord's. Lord's is always great to bat on.

Well, its not really turbulent and dark times to be fair :) Dhoni as captain was pretty good in this series. Its just his overseas captaincy leading up to this series since 2011 that has been bad, and it is hard to forget the many times we should have won games but did not because of the defensive approach[DOUBLEPOST=1408718707][/DOUBLEPOST]
India seem to be developing a problem against Offies. Even in this match the off spinner for 4 wickets. Kohli getting a 50 is encouraging. As for Raydu, I think he has just made a claim to be in the playing XI.

Only problem is .. as usual there will be no room for him in the lineup, because we are carrying dead weights like Rohit in the team

Raina should have batted above Jadeja,Binny,Ashwin anyway :yes Would he be in the final XI ?:rolleyes Seems like Rayudu would steal his place :cheers

Yes ganguly took over at a a very dark stage, the thing is whenever such things happen its out of necessity rather than being due to trying out for better luck, whenever you change a veteran captain for a new one just for the sake of it, it has resulted in shuffling of captains and disharmony in team for all teams that go that route.

Lets just say kohli takes over and gets whitewashed in india, thats not how you build a youngster into a captain especially not while he is already struggling like hell, putting kohli for captain for aus series has potential to break him for good for sometime if things go wrong, if im a selector i wouldn't risk it by a mile.

Also you are still of the idea that we are loosing due to captaincy, i will say this we may not have won in certain clutch situations in NZ and SA due to captaincy, but we have not lost due to captaincy, It is primarily our batting that shines up whenever we loose heavily.

So instead of pushing out one guy who has atleast a feather of form and guts to fight it out, it would be great if we can concentrate on the real issues of getting our players batsman to form, starting with ousting fletcher, this is not a blame game, as you say if dhoni is a Conservative captain lets just compliment him with an aggressive coach, kristen worked well . lehman works for australia etc.
they didnt sack clarke cause he was asking for homework or a lot of questionable selections he made too.

Changing a coach always gives better fortune unlike captaincy:D.
Dhoni's time as the torch bearer is not over just yet.

Middlesex struggling ... 85/5 All the bowlers have taken a wicket each. Also three catches for Samson and one for Dhawan, probably at Slip. So the pitch seems lively with so many caught behinds.

ALso just saw the full scorecard in detail. Why was Raina batting at 11. What kind of mental decision is that. Just how sure is he of his place in the starting XI

Aghh .. I am getting s*cked into the Dhoni issue again :p

The problem imo is not Dhoni's conservative captaincy. It is his failure to adapt and evolve to the Test format. He has taken forever to realize that his ODI tactics and team selection will not work in Tests (4 overseas series losses to be precise).

The batsmen are to blame, yes. But please check out the number of times we actually had the opposition 4-5 wickets down for less than 100-150 runs. And then they went on to score in the 400-600 range. On wickets where 250-270 could have been competitive totals, we conceded twice those runs because there were no backup bowlers to keep things tight when the wicket takers wanted a breather.

The other issue is. Dhoni is captaining all 3 teams. So there is no room to actually groom a player as a captain. The only option would be to push the new guy over the deep end. I understand the concerns of the new captain being whitewashed and crushed, and I think that's a very good point. And we should persist with Dhoni until then simply because the world cup will be around the corner.

If the world cup wasn't the next series, I would have preferred a new captain starting from the WI tour to India
