India in England Jun-Sept 2014

"If I am not good enough by the end of the summer, then so be it. But for now, I'm here for as long as needed." - Alastair Cook. #engvind

At what point is it bad enough? :mad

This is bad enough. Do we really need a 2/3 - 0 drubbing for him to leave?

In affectionate remembrance

English Cricket,

Deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and acquaintances

R.I.P

N.B The body will be cremated and taken back to India

:p

As an Indian fan, I still wouldn't relax yet about this series (does anyone ever?). But a great start .. phew

No one is denying it. He said, England "gifted the match" which sounds more like an excuse.

I did say gifted, and we did gift you the game.

If this happened in reverse, you would be saying the same thing.

I know your happy because of the win, a would I be, but lets not for one moment attribute Inidias win to sensational bowling from Ishant Sharma. Your best bowler was Kumar, who was superb.

Yeah I agree. I'm not sure you've got it in the bag yet, but unless we improve drastically, we have no chance!

England are officially back to the 1999 level when they were ranked the worst test team around, before the Duncan Fletcher revolution started.

The ECB heads have not just messed up world cricket with their big 3 collusion, but with the KP issue.

The best ENG team realistically is this with KP as captain:

Compton, Robson, Bell, KP, Root, Ali, Stokes, Foster, Broad, Plunkett, Anderson.

The KP issue as been stated before, is clearly mentally messing this team and the dressing room up. Of course i can't say that is directly translating to the poor form of Bell, Stokes or the idiot bowling of the quicks.

But Cook brings nothing to the team & Moores doesn't look like he knows what he is doing. :facepalm:facepalm

Not convinced that KP is the right man to captain!

Leeds 2012? Plus Perth 08 wasn't a green seamer, perth never is.

Overall, a bit of a hyperbole to say that, cause of the test matches you mentioned its not as if India won those all those series. We both IND have still lost more overseas test on helpful wickets, than they have won.

ENG/AUS/SA/NZ/WI will always back themselves to beat indian or any sub-continent in help home pitches, even if they acknowledge IND/SC teams may have fast bowlers who could bowl well in such conditions.

Similar SC teams will always back themselves to outbowl tourist teams on turners, even if the non SC team has good spinners.

These dynamics of cricket hasn't changed.

Leeds 2002, I meant. Perth might not have been a green seamer but Australia played 4 pacers on that track.

Be very difficult to justify dropping Ballance and promoting Bell right now. If you're dropping Cook on form I'd say you have to drop Bell too.

Personally I think Cook has to go as Captain. I think the best alternative captain is Morgan but I can't see how to get him in the side.

I knew you wouldn't lol since you think England gifted India the match.

And teams have fallen into traps before, doesn't necessarily have to be just a player. And like @Aalay said - India did play better cricket over the 5 days. Bhuvi bowled superbly on the second day and with the bat. Jadeja's counter attack turned the game around. Vijay was excellent and gritty. Forgot Rahane

I am ofcourse not asking you to accept any of these, because unfortunately as an Indian fan, I have been in the current English fans' boots way too many times :|

Now then, we have a discussion! Jadeja's innings was great. I mean I hated it, I was literally open mouthed! Ballance's 100 was great for us. But with 120 to get, with 5 wickets in hand and 2 sessions to get it, hooking 3 times in a row for the wickets with THREE MEN in the deep is gifting the game to the opposition. All they had to do was not hit it there, and 3 of them did. In a row.

I'd give the captaincy to Jimmy. He loves it!

Moores doesn't look like he knows what he is doing. :facepalm:facepalm

I can't agree. Moores has, for the most part, inherited a group of players that are possibly permanently scarred from the Ashes debacle. I hate to say it, but we could well be looking at the end of players like Cook and certainly Bell. Who's to say they will ever recover? I think it's a given that Prior is done as well.

Yep, one was stupid, two moronic, three just weak and ridiculous.

I can accept the first one, just... We were scoring quickly in that period it was sort if a calculated risk. KP vs Lee at the Oval in 2005, had he holed it we would have said how ridiculous it was to take such risks... They came off and we say what an unbelievable innings. So I can just about accept the Prior dismissal. The Stokes and Root ones were disgraceful

Compton should come back, when your team is in such a bad place mentally you need the right character as much, more even, than you need the right skills.

He's a ballsy character who believes he belongs out there at the highest level, with so many of england's going into their shell the type of guy who is sitting there going "can't wait to get at them and chase this down." would invaluable in the dressing room.

I like Cook, I think he's under-rated sometimes because he's a guy that sees the new ball out more than makes big scores and that's a lot more important for an opener than people give it credit for, but even I'd have to say his place in the squad is getting near untenable right now.

funnily enough, I used to always wonder if his career, which at one point was shaping up to be record breaking would fall foul somewhere, he just isn't as good as the other guys who've managed that 10,000 runs aggregate.
