India in West Indies, 2009

Well, the "backward" step saved us yesterday. Who knows what might have happened had he not got Gayle?

Oh well, not a bad performance, but some of our bowlers really need to improve. Anyway, we've won and that's the big thing. :D

Yeah. I disagree with aditya123 in the sense that we are in a generation where its far more forgiving of cricketers who make mistakes and want to correct themselves. In those days, if we dropped a cricketer, it was mighty tough for him to comeback and it eventually got over for him. Who knows, we might have lost out on so many cricketers who could have comeback stronger from the experience. Now, cricketers who are dumped will be optimistic and work doubly hard to make comebacks and would comeback wiser and stronger which is good for the team. Thats how we saw Saurav Ganguly make that sensational comeback and signed off in glory.

I wish we dont use this "backward step" word again because most of our cricketers recently have made strong comebacks.

Just leave it mate.He wont get any big oppurtunity. He'll just fade away as a immense domestic talent, wasted by the selectors.Im sure he wont get any big chance even in this series. After this series, 3 of our main batsmen will return, which will result in no spot remaining in the batting order.Thats is it.Hes already 29 btw.

Quite possible, sadly! I feel a lot of Badri. But I also got to say that he got a few opportunities and he didnt capitalise. Being in a zone where every innings is important for him, he could have made his opportunities. But again, some others have continued despite major failures and so Badri is unlucky.

I actually thought RP was bowling quite well. Just he was a bit unlucky with the wides and all. He was going for the right line and length. Nehra was bowling poor, and his selection in the first place was a bit unjustified I thought. He wasn't bowling the right line, and getting 3 wickets was mostly luck.

Yuvraj's batting was just fantastic, a brilliant sight to watch. Karthik did well and got a solid innings. Pathan also batted well, during a period when India looked like they would slip to under 300 even.

Nice to see posts like that from an English member here (the bolded part).

On our bowling, why dont we try guys like Yomahesh, Sangwan, etc? Yomahesh is a very good limited overs bowler who did very well in IPL-I. He has speed, he can bowl the blockhole deliveries very well and he is young. Sangwan should also be tried. I have lost hope in Ishant completely as a limited overs bowler. He learns too slow. RP Singh needs helpful wickets, so does Irfan and Praveen. Zaheer can bowl anywhere but he is often unfit. We need guys like Kamran Khan/Atul Sharma for the speed and a guy like Yomahesh for keeping it very tight and also getting wickets.

Yes I also agree to Sai's regards of seeing the new bowlers in our team rather than going back to some no-use bowlers. YoMahi, Sangwan, Thyagi, Jakati are some of the outstanding performers. I am sure, Sangwan is worth to be picked ahead of Nehra.

Sangwan is a definite for the future. It's too early at the moment though. I know it's a mistake to be picking Nehra because I'm sure he'll be smacked to every corner of the stadium but Sangwan doesn't have the required temperament to survive at this level yet. He has a lot of talent and I'm one of his biggest fans but give him 2 or 3 years. He's only 18! I don't think people realize how young he is. I think we need to play Praveen Kumar in the XI. He's cool, calm and collected and keeps the runs down in ODIs.

Coming to our bowling, Nehra did not impress me all that much during the IPL. He was alright but nothing flash. I thought Munaf and Tyagi were better in the IPL. However, the wicket that they were playing on yesterday was a flat one , so I`d wait for another couple of games before making an assessment.

The next big assignment in the ICC CT 2009 will be played on helpful SA tracks (its the start of the SA season) and I believe that a bowling lineup of a fully fit Zaheer, Praveen K, RP/Ishant/Munaf, Ojha would be a very good one for those conditions. I would still back Ishant but he needs to sort his length out in ODIs. He is still bowling the test match length in ODIs and that makes him easy to slog on slow pitches. I won`t bet on Nehra in a big event like the Champions Trophy, especially when we have invested so much on a pool of medium pacers and have also been pretty much unbeatable in ODIs since 2007. It is`nt Nehra hate or anything but I would`nt like to chop and change much because Zaheer,RP,Ishant,PK,Munaf, Sreesanth are all ahead of him in the queue at the moment. Plus, I would like Nehra to play a full Ranji season and pick wickets consistently before I feel he is fully fit for a successful comeback trail.

Sadly, these days, any player who is considered for National selection is judged with IPL as the yardstick.Nehra who IIRC dint do too much in the last Ranji season, was drafted straight into the national team.Jadeja and Rohit Sharma do have an advantage of playing well in the IPL for being given consistent chances in the National team.

We are again fooled by the BCCI, Adi. They have finalised a tri-nation tournament featuring India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand that will take place in Sri Lanka (it starts in August and will go on till September, just before the Champions Trophy). They say that its match practice for the Champions trophy. Luckily, we will have 40 day break before that which should recharge us.

Lucky we won. Someone told me 310 was enough when Dhoni and Yousuf were wasting balls.

I think it is because, the average first innings score in that pitch was around 225. Even in commentary , they were saying like 260 should be enough during that batting power play. :p

But I know our bowling and fielding. I trust them to even make 400 competitive.

Well, to be fair, Rohit Sharma has been doing well in domestic cricket and Jadeja was also picked on his Ranji Trophy performances. Rohit Sharma has raised his FC average to 50 and his List A average to 35 so he has been improving. Whether that merits the amount of matches he's been given, I'm not sure. Also, I'm going to sound like a broken record but Jadeja has NOT and I repeat, NOT been given consistent chances as you say. I'm not complaining about it, I'm just stating a fact. He played one match in the SL ODI series and then was dropped for the NZ ODI series. As for T20s, he's played a mere 4. That's hardly giving him consistent chances. Once again, I'm not saying he should be given consistent chances because it's probably too early for him to cement a place in the team but what you said about consistent chances simply isn't true.

Lol ok mate.Ill leave it here. But I said they have an advantage of performing quite well in the IPL.I dint say they are in the team just only due to the IPL.

This team is so full of tossers that I wont be surprised if they loose next 3 matches.

And guess what. They have another series waiting after they come home.
BCCI = Bullshit :mad:

TBH, I don't understand the complaining lol. I don't care who's playing as long as India's winning. Who cares about Jadeja, Yuvraj, Dhoni or Badri as long as India are victorious.

Decent performance from India, excellent knock from Yuvraj. Good stuff from Karthik as well. Karthik > Rohit Sharma, currently. For those criticising Jadeja, he bowled with an economy rate of less than 5 today, which was very crucial imo. Had he gone for over 6 an over, probably this game would've not been India's. And, give him time, he's young. I agree that he's been rushed into international cricket though, but I think that Jadeja has the skills to be a useful cricketer.

I don't doubt Sharma's talent - it's evident that his technique is brilliant - but, when there are so many batsmen knocking on the door of international selection, you can't be giving a player like him so many chances.

Our domestic system needs some real sorting out in any case, too many teams, and thus, bowling attacks and batting line-ups aren't always the strongest, allowing inflated batting averages or brilliant bowling averages. The fact that someone like Joginder Sharma has been incredibly successful in domestic cricket says it all for me.

Anywho, hope to see Murali Vijay and Badri get chances in this series. I don't get the logic of not playing Vijay when he's one of the 2 specialist openers in the squad, but Karthik was due his chance after a good season, and glad to see he's taken it. Tamil Nadu's batting is quite awesome - 3 batsmen are in the Indian team, and maybe we'll see Mukund there someday. He's quite young in any case.

Dude, Sharma's a Mumbaikar. Tbh he's not getting chances because he merely has potential, it's because he's the most promising Mumbai batsman and they obviously get preference. KKD, Badri and Vijay are IMO far better than Rohit Sharma.
