India Team Discussion

What happened to Gurkeerat Singh Mann? Had excellent FC numbers, if i remember correctly, but never got to play a Test.

He's strictly average. I hate this propaganda of 'numbers.' The bloke to watch out for is Kuldeep Yadav with the ball and Rishabh Pant in limited overs. But, our current management has the ability to wreck even a Tendulkar.

My friend did some number digging and came up with this-

The great Ravichandran Ashwin's numbers in alien conditions i.e Australia/South Africa/England and NZ-

Matches- Played more than 80% of his cricket in spin friendly conditions. However he has played 15% of his tests in tough conditions for spinners. These are his numbers-

Economy - 3.25 - I would say that's poor.

Wickets - 24- So that means 276 wickets have come in helpful conditions.

Average - 56.58 to the 25 of his career. Pretty clear he's impotent abroad.

S/R - 105 balls per wicket.

Wow, just realised how superficial Kohli's test record is. Played against a good spin attack for just one series too.

Dont seem to understand what you are trying to prove here... That all of Kohli’s runs have come against weak sides?

:lol By that logic Ajinkya Rahane should be India's best considering his below par record at home.
Rahane averages 34.44 in India on so called flat wickets or turners with 3 hundreds out of which 2 came vs SA at Delhi in the same test match on a rank turner where the next high score was 56.

Below is a comparison of Rahane's record at home and outside the subcontinent if consider WI,SL and Bangla the away average goes upto 54.

My point is runs are runs mate no matter where you score and against whom you score they don't come easy at this level and to score 5 double hundreds in 18 months is by no means superficial for Virat Kohli or for any other batter in the world cricket today. Those are some big big hundreds by Kohli it all started with 4 hundreds in Australia 2014 and apart from the horrendous England tour he has done reasonably well outside India as well.

The point he's trying to make is that he hasn't faced too many quality bowlers at home, and when he did (SA, Australia), his performance wasn't really outstanding.

I imagine this will be received very well by the Indian fans here

His records look great in hindsight but seriously, beating the living hell out of this hapless Sri Lankan side isn't anything special. Or West Indies. Or a side with Adil Rashid, Batty and Moeen Ali as primary spinners in the subcontinent. Or against Jeetan Patel. His average has gone up from 48 to 54 after 6 games vs Sri Lanka. I'm a big fan of Kohli btw, not hating him or anything but if any player defined the word "superficial" it'd be him. There was a stat going around saying he has the most double centuries as captain (Lara had 5, Kohli now has 6) but who have they come against? Sri Lanka x2 at home, Bangladesh at home, New Zealand at home, West Indies and England at home. These are historical stats but against third rate bowling attacks. Without applying context, he'd be the greatest player to ever exist. When you do consider the circumstances in which he has performed, then you get a much better idea of him.

Edit: meant to post this in the India vs SL thread, not in Indian team discussion. Apologies if the post came across as a bait, didn't intend to troll.

Does anyone have an opinion on Bumrah's test selection? I'm confused about it but leaning more towards WTF?

Bangladesh at home, New Zealand at home, West Indies and England at home
So you mean that spin attack Bangladesh team, which beat Australia (led by THE PERSON WHO CAN PLAY ANYWHERE, Steven Smith) and England (led by Cook) almost single handedly.
The West Indies which beat England in home, Pakistan in home.
The England which beat the hell out of South Africa.
The Sri Lanka team spin attack against which the MIGHTY Aussie team, led by the GREATEST EVER STEVEN SMTIH got whitewashed almost singlehandedly. The same Sri Lankan attack which gave Pakistan a hard time in their home.

Well, you say Kohli has never faced a good spin attack. Tell me, who is the best spinner currently? Lyon, remember the 2014/15 series? Herath, 2 double centuries right? Mehedi, uhm a double century against them too. Moeen? Uhm, he had a double hundered I remember. Dilruwan Perera? Didnt he score 2 200s against SL?

The only spinners in the top 20 wicket takers this year left are Keshav Maharaj (not played a test against him)and Yasir Shah (didnt play against him).

Just one question, if the spin attacks Kohli faced havent been upto the mark, then which have been? India’s? He cant play against his own team bro!
