India Team Discussion

Kohli just big time contradicted with the BCCI president and he's doing it right before leaving for a major tour. How is he not being pulled out of the squad and not asked to appear before an investigation committee? You can't throw your employer under the bus in front of your customer.

Who's right or who's wrong, we cant say! But this is HORRIBLE timing from Virat Kohli and if I was in an influential position in the BCCI, I would immediately pull him out of the SA series, announce to the public that "he is indefinitely suspended pending an internal investigation" and not play him until the hearings are done.
Can you throw your captain under the bus?

Except for thala everybody can go under the bus if it helps their agenda.
Those Thala guys are on social media and not on this forum. For those people Dhoni runs the whole world and perhaps even the galaxy. Perhaps there's something else being talked over here. Those agenda things don't work over here since there are some posting standards that regulate it for the good of it's members.

You sure?
Damn sure. Otherwise would've stopped posting over here. I don't read much into the trolls. Perhaps trolling players just because you support someone else is spreading like disease in the limited people that follow this almost dead sport. Around 10% people who genuinely follow Cricket are here on Planet Cricket of which only around 150 are active posters. Says a lot have the interest have fallen. Although there are a couple of trolls that don't get the attention of the admins to the extent it requires.

I could've trolled a handful of players being a Sachin fan but it certainly doesn't inspire me to do the same because that's not what the great man would've supported. I also like KW because he gives me that Sachin like vibe.

Don't know what wrong he has spoken. He just answered the basic questions asked in the press conference. I didn't honestly read anything that he has spoken against Ganguly/BCCI. Perhaps there's something I should know over here?

He has contradicted the BCCI president in a press conference that was organized by the BCCI! The issue has been blowing up big time since yesterday. See this -

If you're referring to Ganguly's earlier comment about "asking Kohli to reconsider stepping down from T20I captaincy", thats not throwing under the bus (well, how true that statement is or when was it made and who made it to Kohli, only Ganguly can tell). But now that Kohli has basically told in public that what the BCCI president said few days back is "false", he took the first step of throwing his employer under the bus. And now that has happened, a counter punishment is to be expected.

How did Dhoni come into this? Oh well, I see that you've posted this message in reply to someone who's on my ignore list in this forum :D Never mind! Actually they can exercise the same option too on my posts. I won't take it offensively. Cheers! :)

All of this is to be blamed on the BCCI's culture of making players too powerful for their own shoes. You basically tie yourself into knots when you let this happen and then you want a change. Its clear that BCCI has been swayed by all the persistent public opinion about Kohli not being an effective white ball captain because of his lack of ICC silverware, and also the pressure to give Rohit Sharma a chance after the 5 IPL titles that he's won for Mumbai Indians.

In a country with the population of India and the talent levels, captains should not enjoy a free run until they decide to step down/retire. In hindsight, I'd say that N Srinivasan's action of protecting Dhoni was also a wrong one. It set a bad precedent (also on a slightly off topic note for those who think I'm a Thala-tard, I'd like to state that I am still upset/pissed with Dhoni for romanticizing the word "national duty" towards cricket when it was totally unnecessary and as a result of that, Kohli unfairly bore the brunt of it when he took paternity break, which was seen as 'unmanly' by our hugely patriarchal audience; ppl who followed my posts in this forum during those times will say that I backed Kohli to the hilt).

That's the same thing I read. And I don't see anything wrong at all in that. The board could've discussed with him a little earlier in a phased out manner.

And I don't think we can blame him for speaking the truth.

After reading almost all the articles I could find, I think only BCCI is at fault completely. Going back to Kohli stepping down in September it was a right move by him. I think he should have announced that he was stepping down from ODI's as well. Knowing how Kohli is and how passionate he is, I feel he wanted to win a limited over title before stepping down and hence he did not make that call.

We as fans will never know what was spoken in the BCCI meet in September when Kohli conveyed his decision to step down. Was it a right move? Absolutely, it definitely takes courage to step down and accept that I am not needed as a leader.

Saurav Ganguly coming out and saying he had asked Virat to reconsider.. is there any truth? May be but there are lot of nonsense statements being put out. I think the right way would have been both taking a press conference and answering all questions.

Coming to the new saga, a lot of former cricketers started tweeting he was not available for ODI, there is a rift and all. This is pushing a current test captain of a national team to its limit. Media created all the rest of the hype and lot of us including myself fell for it. While you have all the dirt thrown at you, are you not going to get up and clean yourself? That is what Kohli did. While I do agree you do not throw you employer under the bus, did that employer BCCI come out and say and defend his employee when the dirt was thrown? They should have defended the current TEST CAPTAIN of the side.

I am not a KOHLI the leader fan, I am KOHLI the batter fan just like how I am a fan of Bumrah or Rohit. Media and former crickets to earn money and be relevant have done this in past with Dhoni-Sehwag, Dhoni-Yuvi as well. Every player has rights to his opinion and has freedom of speech. I as a person would not like to take the blame on me for crimes I did not commit.

I thought having Dada leading BCCI would help us but it has just spoiled the BCCI more. Jay Shah, Dada needs to go. We need better members leading the office to begin with. There is just too much politics involved. Now I know Jay Shah is not going anywhere and this is where we as fans should be able to vote just like normal elections.

This is absolute shit show and I fully stand by with Kohli. I am sure he will be remanded but it would be unfair on Kohli. I see a lot of players stand by Kohli and that is good to see. We need an overhaul on how things are run in Indian cricket and now is the perfect time to brew up a storm and clean up the messes. Things like these are putting me off from cricket as a sport. Covid has not helped and cricket to watch has got boring.

I am happy Kohli has come out and expressed his view in his style. Shame on BCCI for handling this issue. Just when you think BCCI cannot get any worst, they behave this way!
Shame on BCCI ,eh ? Not shame on Virat? Just cause he has been one of India's successful captains?

Agree wholeheartedly with you. A sitting captain cannot thro around his opinions casually. I too feel it warrants an investigation and that the players need to know they arent above the game.

Can you throw your captain under the bus?
Sachin, Azhar, Jadeja have been. Two of them were far bigger and influential than Kohli The difference being the BCCI bosses then commanded a lot of respect for what they had done for the game.- Dalmiya, Bindra, Dungarpur. I'd love to have seen Virat pull this stunt off againt either of them. Ganguly has taken this mildly.

Please enlighten me -why is Kohli right?

For all you know, Virat is lying through his nose and trying to get his supporters sympathize with him. The BCCI, on the other hand, doesnt need supporters and certainly doesn't need sympathies. Understand, that as a Kohli fan, you feel he has been wronged. I still feel the Board treated him well. He was informed by an influential decision maker regarding his removal as skipper. Fair enough! That apart, if Virat hasn't been responding to mails/texts, then its certainly his fault.

Why would anyone side with the Bum Hair Bros?
