India Team Discussion

Shame on BCCI ,eh ? Not shame on Virat? Just cause he has been one of India's successful captains?

Agree wholeheartedly with you. A sitting captain cannot thro around his opinions casually. I too feel it warrants an investigation and that the players need to know they arent above the game.

Sachin, Azhar, Jadeja have been. Two of them were far bigger and influential than Kohli The difference being the BCCI bosses then commanded a lot of respect for what they had done for the game.- Dalmiya, Bindra, Dungarpur. I'd love to have seen Virat pull this stunt off againt either of them. Ganguly has taken this mildly.

Please enlighten me -why is Kohli right?

For all you know, Virat is lying through his nose and trying to get his supporters sympathize with him. The BCCI, on the other hand, doesnt need supporters and certainly doesn't need sympathies. Understand, that as a Kohli fan, you feel he has been wronged. I still feel the Board treated him well. He was informed by an influential decision maker regarding his removal as skipper. Fair enough! That apart, if Virat hasn't been responding to mails/texts, then its certainly his fault.
Shame on BCCI because they set standards differently. While I do believe Virat, I am not his FAN BOY. If you read my posts carefully, I am as much of a Virat fan as I am for Bumrah or Rohit. Me being a hardcore supporter of someone ended when Dhoni retired. I can no longer attach myself to one cricket like did with Dhoni, Yuvi, Gambhir, Zak, Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag. You cannot handle the outgoing of a captain in a way they have done. Once the announcement was made that Rohit will be the captain, did they post Kohli's achievement? Did they thank him for his services? Only after a back lash 24 hours later they decided ok lets do all of this.

While I agree and I was the happiest person and still am to see Rohit lead the side seeing Kohli's captaincy did not bring in any ICC trophy, I was disappointed that they did not honor his captaincy like they should have done. I mean he is India's successful captain not just in India but overseas as well. 10 years ago me would have become a fan just for him winning series in SENA countries.

While I am sorry if you and @SaiSrini feel that a sitting captain cannot throw his opinions around casually. I feel a person if mistreated should raise his voice and clear his side of things. We live in a world that sees more and more one sided opinion and have our judgements ready. I have read both the side of the argument in what Dada said and now what Virat spoke about. While I am a huge Dada fan but the boss who is running the show is politically motivated hence MY thinking is to go and support Virat. Hope you guys speak up for yourself when things are said bad about you at your workplace. We are moving ahead in the world, raise your voice.

@icyman - Please give me one point where you think Virat is lying? He does not need sympathy from his supporters, he has more supporters than BCCI. I am not a Kohli fan, the mails/texts and all those has BCCI said anything or are you forming your opinion on Media?

The only issue I see is where Ganguly says "he asked Kohli to reconsider stepping down from T20I captaincy" and Kohli says nothing like that was said to him. This is what blew up that press conference into an explosive controversy.

Regarding the captaincy announcement, it was communicated to Kohli 90 mins before the SA bound squad was announced (along with the tweet to announce the captaincy change). That's perfectly OK! The initial tweet was very diplomatic because it was a sensitive thing to drop a captain (Indian cricket in recent times is not known to drop their full time captain; we all know the frustration of crying out loud to the BCCI to drop Kohli as captain and move on from him, but the BCCI has been averse to it). But it definitely looks like some things have apparently soured between Virat and the BCCI, and nobody knows the intensity of it from the outside. It is again assumption that BCCI subsequently put out a delayed appreciation tweet 24 hrs later because of some 'backlash'. For all you know, they could've planned to wait sometime before they put out the "Thank you" tweet to Virat's ODI captaincy achievements, because again it was sensitive to drop a captain in a format and so maybe they waited. Again, nobody knows.

What is clearly to be seen is the timing of Kohli's revelations and that's what I had a huge issue with. I am not siding with BCCI nor Kohli on their internal spat (although yes, I continue to be a big backer of not wanting Kohli as captain in any format, including test cricket; I have never liked him as captain; I like him a lot as a player and off field). The timing of it is so wrong and the blame for that rests on Kohli.

You should be a corporate boss.

One should definitely take blame and never try to fight back against a known bully.

Shouldn’t employers not throw their employees under the bus? Isnt a bosses responsibility to cultivate and create good culture in an organization? What good will these statements do?
Nah mate, the elders have decided whatever Kohli does is wrong, it doesn't matter what others do.

I have spoken quite a bit on my opinions for this issue, but since this above statement points to a phrase that I used,, I am responding -

Saying "he fights a lot" is not throwing someone under the bus. He started off the statement by saying that "he likes Virat's attitude a lot....". Could've also been a tongue in cheek comment from Ganguly.

Regarding Virat's lying- well, we still do not know nor ever will- who was lying here. It is very much possible that Virat has concocted this tale up cause he is clearly unwilling to part with the captaincy.

As a captain of a leading team, he should understand better to hash this out internally than to come out in a presser and putting everyone's reputations at stake.

I still feel, Virat's Fan boys are demanding too much. If an outgoing captain has to be honored, where are the posts for the outgoing vice-captain? Lest ppl forget Rahane did lead us in a few tests wherein he has a 100% win record. Honoring via social media is a thing that people crave for these days. To me, it doesnt really matter and one shouldn't make a big deal out of it.

Perhaps I would want to know what is the source of the information for the guy writing this article. A lot of it is actually a little cooked up thing.

There was this Sourav Ganguly singing praises of Kohli as India's Captain and today he is suddenly throwing such statements? I don't believe all this!!! Perhaps Kohli has most of the times respected the decision of the management. Infact, Kohli has also said that he doesn't mind giving away the Captaincy.

Lovely interview here!

R Ashwin, never one to mince words!

I always felt that Ashwin was a tactical genius. From the way he talks about the game and his insights, it gives a strong impression of his brilliance as a Cricketer. Injuries did make an impact on his career but he under-achieved as a bowler. Again not because he wasn't good enough but the way his skills were utilised in terms of opportunities he got.

My my! Indian cricket is a real shit show atm.

Ravi Shastri has initiated his verbal artillery. Just goes to show that all wasn't well in the team in the past few years. For the betterment of the team, really hope they relieve Virat from all captaincy duties, else it is only going to manifest further.

The Ashwin- Shastri episode- I am amazed at Ravi's response. Of course, you need to be there to put an arm around your player. If you arent going to 'butter him', then who will he look up to? How is he expected to make a comeback? No wonder the team failed to win any major trophies under him.
